Most games will launch at full price, then either drop in price in response to slow sales, or, in the case of a megahit, be re-released as a cheaper "Greatest Hits" version. For the post-apocalyptic survival horror game Afterfall: Insanity, publisher Nicolas Games is speeding up the timeline. Nicolas is accepting pre-orders of the game at its official website. You pay $1 now, and if by some miracle this obscure PC horror game gets 10 million pre-orders by its November 25 release date, that's all you'll ever have to pay. That's a pretty good reason to pre-order something that's digitally distributed (and therefore offers no other reason for pre-ordering). And 10% of that revenue will go to an unspecified charity. Should the collective fanbase fail to reach 10 million in number, all of the proceeds of this initiative will go to said charity, and the game will be sold for $33.90. So, instead of releasing the game first, then adjusting the price based on the popularity, Nicolas is gauging the popularity, and the price, before the thing ever comes out. Insanity!
