PS3 gets some MMO lovin' in Japan
There's a thread over at NeoGaf reporting that Japanese game publisher Koei, which is famous for its Dynasty Warriors beat-em-up/battlefield-strategy hybrid games, might be developing an MMO. The company's Tokyo Game Show page was briefly updated with an entry for an MMO title for both PC and PS3. When the mistake was caught the entry was immediately taken down. Fans of Dynasty Warriors and Romance of the Three Kingdoms are very excited. Everyone else can probably move on, because Koei has done pretty little that wasn't at least mostly the same concept as one of those.Also, our friends at PS3 Fanboy have celebrated the launch of the free-to-play Asian PS3 MMO Angel Love Online (a veritable cute fest, that one) by writing up a guide to getting the game running for non-Japanese users. Angel Love is currently available only through the Japanese PlayStation Network store, but that sort of thing has never stopped anyone smart and resourceful, has it? If you succeed, you'll get to play it entirely in Japanese! Oh, yay! It looks very Secret of Mana-esque.Due to the language barrier, most Western PS3 owners will probably want to wait for The Agency, Free Realms, and DC Universe Online, but if you can't wait, here you go. Angel Love Online brings cuteness to PS3
Tetsuya Mizuguchi is known for creating some off-the-wall games. I mean, this is the same guy who helmed Space Channel 5, Rez and Lumines, but Angel Love Online could be the strangest one yet.While the free-to-play MMO features the standard RPG knights, mages and robots, you'll also apparently be able to command humanoid pigs, cats, dogs, zombies with candles on their heads, Native Americans and several creatures the English language has no names for.Although, it's difficult to understand what's going on in the video since it's all in Japanese and the screen is obscured by disturbingly cute characters, Mizuguchi and his team definitely know what they're doing ... at least we think they do.
Free to play MMORPG headed to PlayStation store
If you love MMO's, anime, and/or not paying monthly subscription fees, you've probably checked out other "free to play" online MMO's like Ragnarok Online or Maple Story. No, neither of those are headed to the PS3, but Q Entertainment seems to be bringing a title named Angel Love to the PlayStation Store, probably in Japan.The game is supposedly going to be free to download and to play, but microtransactions on items will serve as a means to make money for the developer. No, not every item will require a nickel or dime. If you think back to Maple Story, it's probably like that -- buying funky clothing, super-special items and the like. Angel Love is supposed to land on the PS3 this December, most likely as a free PS Store download. No word on regions yet, though we wouldn't be surprised if it remained Japan-only. Still, it's free to download if you can handle not buying special items ... if you catch our drift.[via PS3Forums]
Lumines invades MMO
Game Watch is reporting that popular Asian MMO Angel Love Online is receiving the Lumines treatment. While you won't be clearing blocks to music, you can alter your health bar face image to one of the very recognizable Lumines avatar or icon things. This team up is meant to help sell copies of Lumines 2 since owners of the sequel get the code for the icon off the Lumines 2 packaging. I personally would rather have my MMO avatar wear a Lumines shirt than a health bar face image, but I don't play MMOs, so my opinion on the matter is as useful as a queef.
