HBO Max will revive 'The Boondocks' for a two-season run
HBO Max is bringing back animated series The Boondocks for two more seasons next year. The 24 planned episodes, along with the previous 55, will be available on WarnerMedia's streaming service in fall 2020.
Netflix cancels animated comedy 'Tuca & Bertie' after one season
Even a stellar cast and team of Bojack Horseman producers, led by creator Lisa Hannwalt, couldn't save the animated series Tuca & Bertie from Netflix's axe. The streaming company announced that the series, starting Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong, would not be back for a second season. "While Tuca & Bertie won't have a second season, we're proud to feature this story on Netflix for years to come," Netflix said in a statement.
Netflix is working on a 'Cuphead' animated series
Cuphead and Mugman are making their way to Netflix. The protagonists of the devilishly difficult Cuphead will star in The Cuphead Show, an upcoming original animated series on the streaming platform. The game's distinctive, beautiful art style should lend itself perfectly to an animated show.
A 'Costume Quest' animated series is coming to Amazon Video
One of Amazon's upcoming original kids series should be very familiar to fans of a certain Double Fine title. The online retailer announced today that a Costume Quest animated children's series based on the popular video games will debut in 2018. Will McRobb of The Adventures of Pete and Pete fame will serve as executive producer while Frederator Studios (Adventure Time, The Fairly Odd Parents) will produce the show.
'Simpsons' creator Matt Groening is in talks with Netflix
Netflix will spend a ton of money on original series to double its output this year, and some of that could be heading Matt Groening's way. Variety and Deadline are reporting that the creator of Simpsons and Futurama is in talks with the streaming network to create a new animated series. There's no word on what it might actually be, but the rumors say Netflix is considering signing up for two ten episode seasons -- and considering Groening's track record, we can see why.
