Samsung Beat DJ reviewed, not mistaken for a pill and swallowed
The most interesting non-smartphone news to come out of MWC this year from Samsung may have been the announcement of the Beat DJ, the wild-looking oval of a phone filled to the brim with advanced music and mixing capabilities, an AMOLED display, and DivX / Xvid support. The handset's been on sale for a little while now (not in North America, naturally, but in more phone-friendly parts of the globe) and GSMArena has put it through a battery of tests and torturous studio photography sessions for us all to enjoy. If you're worried that the shape of the Beat DJ detracts from its usability, that's the very first thing the site clears up -- the reviewer says that it's actually quite comfortable and usable in the hand despite the bulbous ends. We were disappointed to hear that the TouchWiz interface lagged out from time to time and there's no QWERTY keyboard available -- a major faux-pas for a full touchscreen phone -- and while the mixing interface looks cool, it turns out to be basically unusable in practice because it's too slow and choppy. Last thing you want to do is piss off a crowd full of moderately drunk revelers who've invited you to plug into their PA system and mix some beats by laying down some mega-lame "scratches," so it seems that the concept might be more of a novelty than a practical solution until they drop a faster processor in there.

Quite a bit has gone down in the cellular realm since Barcelona opened its beautiful doors to host Mobile World Congress 2009, but how could we ever forget this gem? Samsung's M7600 Beat DJ is about as close as we'll ever come to a real live Pilotfish Ondo, and after months of waiting, it's finally on sale across the pond. Available for purchase right now at O2 UK, the Bang & Olufsen-infused handset packs a 2.6-inch OLED panel, perfect for mixing, scratching and texting your mum when you stay out too late. Samsung Beat DJ hands-on
Touch Wiz in Spanish -- you know you love it. The Engadget Spanish crew grabbed a little time with Sammy's Bang and Olufsen-powered Beat DJ M7600, and sadly, this one looks like it's better in stills -- the interface is a little laggy and unresponsive, and the "scratching" features seem like more of a goofy novelty than anything else. Samsung M7600 Beat DJ touchscreen music phone now official
As if a giant billboard wasn't enough of an unveiling, Samsung has released some official shots of its M7600 "Beat DJ" touchscreen handset. Like we knew already, the Quadband GSM / HSDPA music phone sports a 2.8-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, GPS, 3 megapixel camera, and Bang & Olufsen amplifier. It's also got codec support for DivX and XviD, microSDHC card slot for up to 16GB, Bluetooth A2DP, FM radio, and a very welcome 3.5mm headphone jack. As for those DJ features, the turntable-inspired "Disc UI" uses a spin wheel for navigation, and the included software lets you both create your own music and sounds as well as remix other songs by adding effects and filters. Samsung's Omnia HD and Beat DJ unveiled in massive MWC ad
Samsung has plastered MWC's host city of Barcelona with huge ads depicting its new Ultra Touch handset, alongside the previously unannounced Omnia HD and Beat DJ. We've spotted both of these handsets previously, the former being a dead ringer for the incredibly-specced Acme i8910, and the latter being that M7600 set which sports a Bang & Olufsen amplifier in a Ocean-like form factor. There's nothing else revealed by the ad, but we're obviously expecting to find out a lot more this coming week once the show proper gets underway.[Via Phone Arena]
Leaked Samsung M7600 phone sports Bang & Olufsen sound, Helio looks
We don't know exactly where this one came from... but these leaked photos appear to be of an Ocean-esque Samsung M7600. Here's what we know about it, spec-wise: it's an HSDPA phone which will have a 3 megapixel camera, GPS, a 2.8-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, and yes, a Bang & Olufsen amplifier. We understand that it'll also sport some kind of of DJ scratching app -- which should make your nightlife way more interesting -- and that it's supposedly set to appear sometime in May of this year (though we'd be surprised if we don't see more of it at MWC).
