However well Streets of Rage 4 turns out, it should at least have a top-tier soundtrack. Guard Crush Games, Lizardcube and Dotemu have revealed that the side-scrolling beat-em-up will have music from Motohiro Kawashima and Yuzo Koshiro, both of whom produced soundtracks for the original Streets of Rage games. They'll tap into the "thumping club anthems" you may remember from the first three titles while creating new sounds.

Streets of Rage has received ports to other platforms, but a true sequel? Not since 1994. You're in for a treat if you miss Sega's classic left-to-right broawler, though. Lizardcube, Guard Crush Games and Dotemu have unveiled Streets of Rage 4, a proper sequel with updated mechanics, a "fresh story" and, naturally, plenty of thugs to thrash. The developers are saying precious little beyond that, but you can play two-player co-op (as either Axel Stone or Blaze Fielding) -- and it's evident the art has taken a big step forward thanks to 24 years of technological progress.

If you love stylish, '90s-style 2D side-scrolling brawlers like Golden Axe or Aztez, you'll dig the debut release from Household Games, a new studio made up of DrinkBox Studios, Queasy Games and Silicon Knights members. Way of the Passive Fist is available now on PlayStation 4 and Mac/PC/Linux via Steam for $15. It will also go live on Xbox One at midnight, March 7th.

Many gamers of a certain age (cough) spent entirely too much time fighting Abobo and pals in the Double Dragon series. If you're one of them, you'll be glad to hear that DotEmu has released its promised Double Dragon Trilogy for both Android and iOS. The $3 app faithfully recreates all three adventures of Billy and Jimmy Lee, including the soundtrack; if you're willing to introduce modern touches, you can get a mobile-optimized (read: easier) difficulty level as well as remastered music. Both versions support the brawler's signature co-op mode through Bluetooth, and they'll work with many gamepads. DDT isn't going to take you back to the days of pumping quarter after quarter into arcade cabinets, but it might be the next best thing.

Our eyes must've been glazed over by Phantom Hourglass previews and Contra 4 face-rocking to have missed this Legend of Spyro: Eternal Night E3 Trailer. Forget whatever negative preconceptions you might have for the Spyro series; this game looks hotter than a June bride on a featherbed. If you've been hoping for a platformer/beat-em-up to lay it down on the GBA, then look to this title for your down-laying needs. Legend of Spyro: Eternal Night has it all -- gorgeous backgrounds, slick physics, and a badical combo system. We would describe the combat as Devil May Cry meets Astro Boy: Omega Factor. Think we're pulling your leg? Swoop past the post break for a 50-hit combo clip. We had no idea games like this we're still being made for the dying handheld!

Rockstar's upcoming PSP port of The Warriors has a pretty nice bonus: the side-scrolling Armies of the Night, a bonus "minigame" of sorts which has you brawling in classic beat-em-up form. But wait ... wasn't this game included in the original PS2 and Xbox release? You're right! But we PSP gamers are the impatient type, and we no longer have to beat the game to get access to this treasured game: it's available right from the get-go.Previews of the PSP build have all been pretty glowing so far. Games Radar notes that the PSP version of the game holds up quite nicely, with some great graphics and (sigh of relief) good load times. With a budget price of only $20, this is one port that PSP fans might want to pay attention to.
