Spider-Man, in addition to doing whatever a spider can (catching thieves just like flies, spinning webs of various sizes, etc) will also be swinging his way onto Nintendo's forthcoming flagship console this spring when The Amazing Spider-Man is released on the Wii U.Announced during Marvel's New York Comic Con panel earlier today, the port leverages the WiiPad's unique stable of features by integrating optional motion controls and menu navigation functionality via the touchscreen. As is the case with that other Wii U reissue of a current-gen superhero game, all of Amazing Spider-Man's DLC will come packed in, including the Stan Lee Adventure Pack seen above.

The Amazing Spider-Man is getting a whole bunch of DLC today, including a few different packs that will have you playing as people other than the titular wall-crawler. The Lizard Rampage pack will open up a level where you play as the Lizard, along with a new Spidey suit to wear. The Oscorp Search & Destroy Pack brings two minigames, with you controlling either a giant snake or a hunter robot. And the Rhino Challenge Pack will put you behind the wheel of the Rhino, allowing you to destroy everything in a timed competition. And finally, the long-awaited Stan Lee Adventure Pack will let you play the legend himself, flying around the virtual streets of New York and spouting one-liners as everyone's favorite former chairman of Marvel Comics. Each of these packs will run you $3-$4, but you can get all four for a discounted price of $10. As Stan himself would say (and we're paraphrasing here), that's enough words spoken.%Gallery-166472%

  • Bruce Campbell is in The Amazing Spider-Man game for some reason

Bruce Campbell made cameo appearances in the 2000s Spider-Man movie series because of his connection to director Sam Raimi. He also appeared in the video games based on those movies, thanks to that same connection. Now another director is making a different Spider-Man movie starring a different actor as a different version of the character. And Bruce Campbell is in the game based on that movie because ... people like Bruce Campbell, we guess?Campbell plays a guy in a blimp who orders you to do stunts.

Spider Man games are, generally speaking, made or broken by how satisfying it is to traverse New York City as your Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man. Slingin' webs is the essence of that fantasy, second only to being an accomplished journalist. That's why everyone likes Spider Man, right? The journalism?Beenox's solution for The Amazing Spider Man, the "Web Rush," pulls double duty as both locomotive and combative solution by slowing down time, thus allowing the player to select their next web-oriented target of interest. Slowing down time will also be helpful for making J. Jonah Jameson's incredibly strict deadlines, which we know you're also concerned about. No one ever said the life of a genetically enriched photojournalist would be easy.

The Amazing Spider-Man will support Move on the PS3, Beenox confirmed after a stray piece of box art spotted by iWaggle3D got questions churning. The box -- check it out to the left -- features the final art for The Amazing Spider-Man, Beenox said, but it doesn't specify how the Move will function with the title. Its insert shows two Move controllers and the PS Eye: If it does use two Move controllers, The Amazing Spider-Man will be the first third-party title to offer the dual-controller option, iWaggle3D noted. The Amazing Spider-Man is hitting Wii and Xbox 360 as well, and while the Wii will use its own brand of motion-controls, there is no word yet if we'll be able to Web Rush with the Kinect.

In an effort make you feel like you're Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, Beenox has designed Web Rush mode, a first-person mechanic that lets Spidey move to a particular section of the environment in a cinematic parkour sequence.Think of that initial first-person bit seen in the movie's teaser trailer, which moves the camera inside Parker's head and lets you see skyscrapers of Manhattan through the eyes of Spider-Man.%Gallery-150652%

Good morning, true believers! Are you ready for The Amazing Spider-Man to get weird? During an interview with Addict of Fiction at the London Super Comic Convention, Spidey co-creator Stan Lee revealed that he will be a playable character in Beenox's upcoming Amazing Spider-Man game. This news raises so many questions, chief among them what? Will he be playable throughout, or just in one small sequence? Will he have spider-powers? Can Beenox's art team do justice to his moustache? We are begging Activision for more information on this wacky news.

The Amazing Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood foray into the world of movie tie-in gaming, will be released on June 26 for the 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS and DS, according to Game Informer. This is ahead of the film's theatrical debut on July 3, and seeing as the game serves as an addendum to the film, our initial reaction was to worry about potentially spoiling the ending of the movie ahead of its release.Spoilers. For The Amazing Spider-Man. While we reel in shame over the sheer stupidity of our own thoughts, check out the game's latest trailer above, courtesy of IGN's YouTube channel.

We're not sure the first screenshot for Activision and Beenox's The Amazing Spider-Man lives up to its name -- sure, Spidey's suit has a detailed, texturized-rubber look and he most certainly is perched very high up, on top of a skyscraper, but those details should be a given. We get it; he's Spider-Man. But how does he function in The Amazing Spider-Man? How do his maneuvers and attacks compare to the Hollywood film this game is tied to? Does his face resemble Andrew Garfield's?We're able to glean more information from December's trailer, of course, but if the first screenshot wasn't going to be action-packed, at least it could have been artistic.

A brief teaser trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man (above) promises a more amazing look at the game with this weekend's VGAs. There's also a new official site to poke around, if that's your thing. We imagine you like web sites. The Amazing Spider-Man is slated to launch alongside the movie next summer and serves as an epilogue to the film. • The Amazing Spider-Man has been cooking for at least a year; Acti canned Spider-Man 4

    by

It's hard to nail down exactly when Beenox began production of The Amazing Spider-Man. According to Activision producer Doug Heder, Amazing has been in the works for longer than either Shattered Dimensions or Edge of Time, the publisher's two latest Spidey titles. "We've spent more time on this game than we will have on either of the other two," he explained to me after Marvel's game panel at New York Comic Con this past weekend. But that's not to say that all that time has been spent in production -- apparently the genesis of Amazing was nearly four years ago, though development didn't begin in earnest until about a year ago. "They are two completely separate teams," Heder said of the developing studio, Beenox. "We have separate leads, separate artists, separate designers -- they're working in parallel with each other." Heder also noted that, at one point, Activison had another studio working on a Spider-Man 4 title to be released alongside a planned movie. When the movie fell through, however, Activision canceled the project and concentrated on other Spidey games. "That was a completely different studio that was working on it, completely different tech, and engine and everything," Heder said. "And when the movie shut down, we shut the game down." Reports from 2009 suggest Radical was working on the now canned title, but Heder unfortunately wouldn't get any more specific.

As you, let's be frank, knew all along, Activision will release a video game based on The Amazing Spider-Man, the celluloid relaunch of America's favorite wall-crawler. IGN spotted a poster for the game at the New York Comic-Con, going on ... well, right now, as a matter of fact. Though its existence is no surprise, the fact that it's being developed by Beenox may just be. Should it release alongside the film in July, The Amazing Spider-Man will follow Beenox's dismal Spider-Man: Edge of Time by just nine months. Nine months. Like a baby. On the bright side, Amazing Spider-Man will likely only feature one Spidey as compared to Edge of Time's two Spideys. So maybe it only needs half as much development time? Maybe?

Before I grew to the chiseled, abs-carved-from-stone man I am today, I was a chubby kid. Like most chubby kids, I loved pretending to be a superhero, and I had a fairly robust stable of go-tos. Superman, that's easy. You jump off a couch, get a moment of weightlessness, boom. Superman. Spider-Man, he's trickier. The key is nailing the feel of the swing, speeding up your run and then slowing down as you flick your inverted devil horns to the sky. I even nailed the costume. Between the ages of four and six, I was known to occasionally keep my Spider-Man PJs on under my street clothes, which was especially precious during the summer months. This is Spider-Man. It's the idea that underneath a nerdy exterior lies a super-strong acrobat that can, at any moment, leap high above the bullies and teachers and swing away from it all. The staffers of Beenox may have done their research and read plenty of back issues, but if Spider-Man: Edge of Time is any indication, they never, ever wore the PJs.%Gallery-120355%

Like a vagabond Lothario who flees from a relationship the moment it turns serious, Spider-Man always seems to leave developers just short of something really special. Neversoft never quite cracked "the perfect Spider-Man" while it had the license, and Shaba Games came within inches of it before it was shuttered. Now, with Spider-Man: Edge of Time, Beenox is taking its second pass at the Web Head, and if the quality I saw at my PAX demo was any indication, it may be time to start getting nervous when Spidey "just runs out to buy some smokes real quick."%Gallery-120355%
