According to ArenaNet, the introduction of Custom Arenas and Spectator Mode to Guild Wars 2 has resulted in a surge of new tournaments, which naturally has been accompanied by a surge in people shouting about those tournaments. ArenaNet hopes to keep the shouts coming with the introduction of its Authorized Shoutcaster Program. Under the new program, Authorized Shoutcasters will receive notifications when highly rated teams square off against one another. Those shoutcasters can then jump into the match and stream the content live to what we can assume is a cheering throng of e-sports/Guild Wars fanatics. Streams will be delayed to prevent them from influencing the outcome of matches. ArenaNet has already selected its first set of shoutcasters based on their community contributions and shoutcasting bona-fides. If you'd like to be considered for the role, you can post a link to your stream on the official Guild Wars 2 forums. In other, somewhat related news, character slot expansions will be half-off 20% off (math!) from June 7th to June 9th. You can find the offer by checking in with the Black Lion Trading Company in-game. Oh! And don't forget: Massively is in the market for a new Guild Wars 2 columnist.

  • Guild Wars 2 sells makeovers, explains authenticator issue

If you haven't been completely satisfied with how you styled your Guild Wars 2 character to look but don't have the heart (or time) to reroll, ArenaNet has a solution... for a price. The studio added two options to the game's cash shop that allow players to fiddle with their characters' visuals. The new items are a self-style hair kit (which costs 250 gems but can be purchased in bulk) and a total makeover kit (this goes for 350 gems and also has a bulk purchase option). While the total makeover will allow for a change in height, hair, skin, and even gender, it does not include a name change. ArenaNet also addressed an authenticator issue that arose when players noticed that the game stopped asking for the code. It turns out that the team switched to an updated version of the system that remembers computer locations verified by email and will not ask for an authenticator code from that place. Security Coordinator Mike Lewis reassured players that their game was still safe: "Please be aware that your accounts are still protected by the mobile authenticator at this time."

ArenaNet has decided to honor Black Friday with a full weekend of Guild Wars 2 in-game sales. It's a Thanksgiving miracle! We know you've been asking yourself if ArenaNet will take your money. The answer is yes -- the answer is always yes. But on this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, ArenaNet will take far less of your money! On each day of the holiday weekend, three different items will be sold at a discount of up to 70% off. Naturally, telling you what's available would be far too simple, so you'll have to pop in-game to check out the daily deals.

  • Guild Wars 2 gems now available in plastic card form [Updated]

Guild Wars 2's Black Lion Trading Company offers more than just a way to buy and sell in-game items; it's also used to buy the game's currency known as gems. These gems can be bought and traded for real money and converted to in-game gold for the purchase of just about anything your Tyrian heart desires. But now ArenaNet is making it even easier to buy the in-game currency through gem cards available for purchase at your favorite retail store. These cards would be perfect as a gift from your grandmother or sweet aunt Vickie, who can help support your crafting obsession without even knowing it. Just tell them that you're really interested in Geology and Gemology. It's a win-win! [Update: ANet has just posted the complete list of retailers offering gem cards. In the US, they are Fred Meyer, Hasting, NewEgg, Fry's, and Amazon.]
