  • Breakfast Topic: Tell us your healing bloopers

I like healing random 5-mans because I think healing is fun and the queues are quick. Healing is my preference for Battlegrounds, too. I follow a tank type around to the benefit of both of us -- you know, when I'm not being ganked by the intelligent enemies who know to kill the healer first. (I'm very good at dying strategically.) But since I'm an altoholic, I change my healers around when using Dungeon Finder, making me a jack of all healers, master of none. While I'm a decent healer, I have had my share of healing bloopers. Elunamakata's post about earning your plus sign on the Healing Mains blog both humbled and educated me. I followed most of the advice already but have not always been diligent about keeping my gear updated on leveling characters. WoW Insider also provides advice for non-expert healers, such as: How to be the world's worst healer Tongue in cheek, of course -- you're supposed to do the opposite. 6 signs healing is not for you Sometimes the best advice is to choose another role. 18 observations from a leveling healer How to level up using the Dungeon Finder How to heal with keybinds, clicking and movement for the PvP healer. So that's how to avoid healing embarrassments. But even the best healers make spectacular errors from time to time (or at least remember their early oopsies). My worst blooper -- which is extraordinarily deadly for my team and makes me hang my head in shame -- is when I have accidentally targeted myself and then healed away. "Gosh, the tank is taking so much damage that my heals are ineffectual ... oh." It isn't habitual, but it's happened more than once. Also, remember when you had to make sure you had the latest rank on your action bar? Yeah, me too. /blush Since almost everyone has healed at least once, regardless of gender (don't get me started), tell us your most embarrassing healing moment.

What do science jazz bands and motorized feminine hygiene products have in common? They're both mentioned on this week's MMO Report, for starters (yes, really). Moving right along, host Casey Schreiner takes a break from his industry news roundup routine to regale us with a 10-minute blooper reel featuring the best (worst?) outtakes of 2011. While there isn't much in the way of MMO news on this week's episode, there are plenty of shots of Casey shuffling his papers, zany cameraman hijinks, and a few choice monologue missteps and associated bleep bombs. We've got the full show embedded for you after the break.

We have a gut feeling this is the video that'll be playing when 'the hive' takes over -- a sentimental, 'look how far we've come' victory reel for the Quadrotor nation. But for now, let's just keep the focus on the softer side of our future nemesis' training-room foibles. Playing like an über-geek version of America's Funniest Home Videos, we admit we cracked a smile watching these insect-like bots from the University of Pennsylvania's GRASP Lab take a few hard knocks in the humility ring. Fear of the swarm aside, it's a humorous twist on an otherwise droning research project. The take away? Schadenfreude -- it's not just for humans. [Thanks, Daniel]

It's another holiday week! Rather than just rehashing the best of 2010 or giving us another chance to check out Uncle Casey's Mailbag up close and personal, Casey and the team behind The MMO Report on G4TV have instead opted to create a reel of some of the strangest, most irreverent, and downright silly bloopers and out-takes from this season. Aside from the normal tripping over words common to anyone who has ever been stuck behind a microphone, there are also crazy bits where the cast and crew relentlessly mess with Casey, as well as giggling fits, bleeped words, and the general things you'd expect to see. So whether you're enjoying some time relaxing today or nursing a serious New Year's hangover, check behind the break to enjoy some blooper madness in this week's video from The MMO Report. Alternatively, you can also catch it every Thursday on G4TV.

  • Breakfast Topic: Personal blooper reel

This Breakfast Topic is brought to you by WoW.com's guest blogger program. Want to participate in a future call for guest posts? Read up on how to contribute, and keep an eye on the site for program announcements. In four years of playing, I've done some dumb things. It happens. Play this game long enough and odds are you'll goof up somewhere. Sure, everyone pulls threat and wipes a raid or misses a clutch CC in PvP. Those things come and go, but I mean some epically silly things. For instance, when I was but a wee noob to WoW, I spent three levels grinding XP from the turtles on the shores of Tanaris because I didn't know where to go next. I also had a habit of wanting to color-match my gear by level. Yeah, I was that player. But I wasn't thinking, "Hey, this would make a cool RP set." No, sadly I was thinking, "What kind of adventuring hero would go out into battle looking like a patchwork quilt?" Of course, it's safe to assume most people do things like that. Right? Guys? More recently I've found myself using the random heroic tool on a regular basis, and with my hardcore raiding career long behind me, I was actually getting gear I needed. Once I got so excited about a new piece of gear that I hit "disenchant" instead of "need" out of habit. Sigh. At least the void crystal was worth something. Substantially more groan-inducing was passing on a 500 gold Pendulum of Doom on the auction house, then finding out not too long after that they easily sell for over 20,000. Within the same day, I found out that Green Lenses of various stats (such as stamina or intellect) were also worth a similar amount of money. I groaned, remembering that as a newly minted engineer, I had vendored or destroyed several of these, finding them useless for my level 60. Does anyone have any similar groan-inducing events? Do you keep a personal blooper reel of screenshots of some hilarious mistells or other shenanigans?

We know that the development teams at our favorite MMOs work hard at game creation, but we're equally aware of how much they love their jobs. It's a dream job, and while development of a new game can be tough and stressful, more often than not it's lots of fun. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in the studio? What mishaps do the developers run across during the process, and what great ideas never make it to launch day? We talked to the team at Fallen Earth, and they generously shared some of their greatest bloopers and favorite ideas. Read along after the cut, and enjoy!

  • Sony VAIO L touchscreen humiliates presenter on live TV (video)

You know what they say in show biz: never work with children, animals, or gadgets. And if you must, make sure that you test drive your consumer electronics before going live. As you can see in the video (after the break), the kids on one overseas morning show failed to heed the last bit, to humorous results. For our part, we're inclined to believe that the unresponsiveness of the Vaio L All-In-One touchscreen herein is pilot error of some stripe, but either way the man on screen handled it like a real pro. Besides, we've seen far worse bloopers on Japanese television -- really, after the whole Yukio Mishima seppuku mess, it's hard for us to take any of this stuff too seriously. Video(s) after the break.

  • It's a mad, MadWorld blooper reel

Make no mistake, MadWorld is one of the most violent games we've ever seen but it's all wrapped up into a big joke. It's over the top, insane and pretty hilarious. Some of that hilarity is thanks to the one-two commentary punch of Greg Proops (Whose Line is It, Anyway?) and John DiMaggio (Bender from Futurama, among other things). Unfortunately, the latest trailer for MadWorld doesn't include Proops & DiMaggio but a pair of actors trying desperately to pretend to be hilarious. Maybe we're being overly harsh but you be the judge, check out the trailer after the break.

  • Found Footage: Steve Jobs' Macworld bloopers

In a move that I'm sure is just begging for the wrath of Jobs, someone has put together a well-crafted blooper video that looks at the best quirks, mistakes and glitches of Steve Jobs' Macworld keynotes. The video is hosted at YouTube and we're linking to it here, so you should be able to click on the image above and play it right here in TUAW (or your RSS reader) as long as Flash is enabled.I have to agree with the post at FreeMacBlog: it's pretty tough to watch this and not squirm at least a little, especially during my personal favorite: the 2005 keynote when I believe it was Sony's CEO who painfully stumbled and blundered through a speech about... well I don't even remember what it was about anymore. This video is a nice reminder of those unfortunate (yet darn funny) blooper moments of Macworld keynotes that we all so easily forget once we open our new [insert Apple product here]. Check out FreeMacBlog's post where I found this, or head over to YouTube where the video lives - at least for now.
