The Pocket Pain Doctor is an iPhone app "guaranteed to invigorate your mind" and rid you of such pesky things as fatigue, drowsiness, and acne. Of course, it also has all the telltale signs of modern day snake-oil: questionable claims about "Bluwave" and "Redwave" technology, "clinical proof" that has nothing to do with the product, and the faux sophistication of using "exacting nanometers" to adjust the, uh, brightness. Cherry on the cake? It's made by the same creepy one-man clown show responsible for the Pocket Cemetery app. Read - Pocket Pain Doctor website

  • Deal of the Day: Nyko "Blu Wave" remote

Want to use something other than the PS3 controller to control movies on your system? Well, you can pick up Nyko's "Blu Wave" remote for a shockingly low $10 from amazon.com. However, there's one crucial flaw that prevents it from being an all-around great deal: the lack of a power button. You can, as some have done, use the RF adapter to teach other universal remotes (such as the Harmony) to interface with the PS3. Or, you can go for Sony's more expensive, but more elegant solution for $25.[Via CAG]

Sure, they've invoked the letters "Blu" in the name, but the only way this remote's commands are getting into your PlayStation 3 is via nice, old-fashioned IR (and a USB dongle). If the price of entry was too high on Sony's Bluetooth remote, you can spend a little less on the BluWave and use the leftover cash on the company's other announcement -- its PS3 controller charger. The now-shipping $40 base can juice up to four pads at a time and gets its power in another nice, old-fashioned way -- your wall outlets.[Via Joystiq]

If you're wary of spending $25 on Sony's Bluetooth remote control -- after all, it won't work with your old-fashioned infrared devices -- then you may want to consider Nyko's BluWave remote for the PlayStation 3. Instead of using pesky radio waves, it uses good old-fashioned infrared (not 'blu') light waves to tell that little USB dongle what it wants your PlayStation 3 to do ... like "INITIATE BLU-RAY DISC PLAYBACK." Unfortunately, this device doesn't appear to be a universal remote so, like Sony's product, this is PS3 only. But at $20, you'll save enough to buy yourself a sandwich. Nyko also announced that they're shipping their PS3 controller Charge Base for $40, good for those of you with an aversion to recharging cables. We understand.

We've gotten a press release from Nyko detailing some new peripherals they're about to launch. Curious? First, let's have a little story to set the mood for the first item. A lot of people complained about the Bluetooth technology pushed by the PS3. When they experienced the sheer awesomeness of the Sixaxis controller, they complained to their friends, "Why in the world can I still play the game from in the upstairs bathroom? This is stupid!" Well, Nyko has your back with their new BluWave remote control supporting infrared technology. It's designed specifically for the PS3 as well, so you can easily control all those features Blu-ray movies have to offer without scrolling through that weird interface the controller forces upon you. We prefer the official Sony one, however.Nyko also released a ChargeBase peripheral that helps you keep your Sixaxis collection charged up. It's a relatively compact device and can rapidly charge up to four controllers simultaneously. Instead of relying on USB power, you've got an external power supply (read: plug) which means you can charge your controllers, but have the PS3 actually turned off. That's pretty handy. We'd definitely say this would be worthwhile, unless the quick charging starts to decrease your average battery life rapidly. It shouldn't, but weirder things have happened.
