  • The Daily Grind: What was your worst death ever?

Seasons don't fear the Reaper, we've heard. Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain. Nor, apparently, do MMO players. After all, death is just a part of life to us, a daily occurrence in the hazardous occupation of adventuring. Happily, dying is but a hiccup between one existence and the next, and our resurrected bodies are more than ready to head back into the fray. However, sometimes a particular in-game death hits harder than the rest. It could be that you died in a terribly inconvenient spot and had to re-run a large swath of content just to get back to where you were. You might have kicked the bucket in a game in which death holds serious consequences, perhaps in the form of a severe death penalty or PvP item loss. A single death on your behalf could have been the linchpin between a sweet group victory and a horrible, horrible wipe. So what was your worst in-game death ever? What MMO death was so stupid, so disastrous, so laced with negative effects that you wince even to think about it today? Share, and fear the Reaper no more!

  • Massively, Blue Oyster Cult's Eric Bloom and Wizard101 walk into a bar...

Blue Oyster Cult lead singer Eric Bloom has been gaming a long, long time, and been part of a very iconic rock band for even longer. If you are familiar with the More Cowbell sketch on Saturday Night Live, you know B.O.C. I remember their music from my younger days, as my brother and I tried to learn their songs for our band to cover (pro tip: the lead in Don't Fear the Reaper is a killer). In fact, it has to be some kind of fate that I would interview him many years later, since his music also blends in perfectly with the gaming lifestyle. So, what do rock stars like to play? A bit of everything, it seems. Eric also writes for Beckett Massive Online Gamer and has songs featured in games ranging from Guitar Hero to Warhammer Online. Recently, he was asked to help design a quest for the bright and shiny card-battle MMORPG Wizard101. It turns out he had an idea for a quest, and his recent visit to Kingsisle Entertainment was the perfect opportunity to make that idea a reality. Follow past the break to check out the recording of my phone interview with Eric, as well as a sit-down with him and the developers from Kingsisle.

Next week's Rock Band update is a raucous blend of heavy-hitting tunes, comprised of songs from Motörhead, Blue Oyster Cult and Rage Against the Machine. The metal mayhem, for obvious reasons, won't be compatible with Lego Rock Band -- somehow we just can't picture Lego people playing "Godzilla" by Blue Oyster Cult without being rocked to pieces. Check out the full pricing and track details for the console releases after the break.

A recent addition to the ESRB ratings list reveals an upcoming "Metal" track pack for Rock Band for PS2, PS3, Wii and 360. The ESRB rated the expansion with a "Teen" rating due to the upcoming pack's inclusion of songs with expletives "as well as allusions to violence." It's a good thing the game doesn't make detailed references to violence!Example lyrics given by the ESRB reveal two of the track pack's songs: "D.O.A." by Haunted and "Transmaniacon MC" by Blue Oyster Cult, a brand new addition to the Rock Band franchise. A leaked achievement list also reveals "Killed by Death" by Motorhead, "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth, and "Master of the Universe" by Hawkwind as new songs exclusive to the pack. Considering the last Rock Band track pack debuted 13 new songs unavailable as DLC, we're confident that this new addition will do the same.Rock Band: Metal Track Pack hasn't been announced yet, but considering the reliability of the ESRB's ratings, we expect EA and MTV Games to announce the full track list, along with the track pack itself, within the next few weeks.[Thanks, Justin R.!]

Here's something we never expected to put in the same sentence -- Blue Öyster Cult and Warhammer Online. Yes, you heard us completely correctly and this isn't some kind of hallucination.Eric Bloom (a level 40 sorcerer on Ironfist, mind you) and fellow bandmate Richie Castellano went for a tour of the Mythic Entertainment offices back in March. What ended up happening after was not only a tour but also a step into the recording booth as they teamed up with Paul Barnett, Josh Drescher, and Brad Derrick to record "Kiss My Axe (While I Drink My Beer)!"The song is a ballad dedicated to the dwarven slayer's ways of drinking, killing, killing, and did we mention drinking? If there's any man who doesn't fear the reaper, it's certainly a dwarven slayer.Mythic is offering their song free for download over at the Warhammer Online main site.[Via Giant Bomb]
