Geology is a slow process. Making rocks takes time after all, much like game development. Meanwhile, classic action puzzler Boulder Dash - Rocks continues its glacial roll toward the DS and PSP.We first heard about this remake of the classic action-puzzler back in November. Since then a few new details have emerged. Rockford, our bling hungry hero, will be able to use lasers and bombs to help him on his underground quest for diamonds. We're also promised multiplayer modes, and platform specific game modes. No details on what these entail, but some kind of stylus based action seems inevitable on the DS - perhaps the ability to lift or smash rocks? That would certainly go some way to making the game a bit more accessible than the original, where a simple mistake could leave your precious diamonds buried forever under piles of rocks. We'll hopefully find out in late 2007, when Boulder Dash - Rocks is due for release.

First Star Software will continue to milk their 23-year-old greatest hit, Boulder Dash, with a new version for the DS and PSP later this year. Each version of Boulder Dash - Rocks! will feature exclusive content unique to the console it runs on. Something tells us it will have something to do with running around underground tunnels and dodging big stones.Sidenote: did you know the Boulder Dash guys also made that crazy split-screen Spy Vs. Spy game? You can legally download Windows versions of that game, four versions of Boulder Dash, and pretty much every other game First Star ever created for $14.95 at their website. Pretty sweet deal, if you're old enough to be nostalgic for these games. (57 years old, to be exact.)

10TACLE Studios (Panzer Tactics DS) is bringing back the classic Boulder Dash to PSP with Boulder Dash-Rocks! (see, I'm not the only one that can do bad puns). The game will attempt to appeal to both fans of the original, as well as new gamers. The PSP version will have it's own unique play mode, as will the DS version. The game involves collecting diamonds, while avoiding enemies and traps. Find the level exit, and do it all over again. This rebirth will also feature multiplayer and other additional game modes. It seems like Boulder Dash-Rocks! will offer quick, short-burst gameplay which many believe PSP is lacking. Let's hope the title can be fun for those who don't have Boulder Dash nostalgia.[Via PSP World]

Old school, boulder-dodging hero Rockford is set to make a comeback courtesy of 10tacle Studios. German developer 10tacle Studios worked out a co-publishing deal with the First Star, who still own the rights to the franchise, to make an updated Boulder Dash for both the DS and the PSP. 10tacle is handling the development side, and they seem enthused about working with the property. Since there is a lot of potential for stylus-based fun here, we are enthused about seeing what they produce.
