Given the success of franchises like FIFA and Madden, it's easy to see why EA would want to commit valuable resources to developing an MMA title, a sport that's been getting bigger and bigger over the past few years. But the road for creating this new game, dubbed EA Sports UFC, wasn't an easy one. The relationship between UFC President Dana White and EA had its complications a few years ago. Back then, the developer reportedly wasn't interested in making a title for the mixed martial arts company, which is what started the kerfuffle between them. Because of this, UFC eventually hooked up with THQ to create a game, while EA Sports went on to develop its own MMA series. Still, neither of these things lasted too long. And after the unfortunate demise of THQ, EA Sports eventually reached a deal with UFC, granting it licensing rights for the popular MMA league. The by-product? EA Sports UFC.

If you're EA, how do you build up hype for EA Sports UFC -- a license-based fighting game where players will largely know what to expect? You promise them Bruce Lee, that's what. Yes, PS4 and Xbox One gamers will get to pit the Game of Death star against the UFC roster despite a 41-year gap separating the two. You'll have instant access to Lee if you pre-order, and he's otherwise unlockable. EA justifies this by contending that Lee is the "father of mixed martial arts;" that sort of makes sense given Lee's style and Judo knowledge, but the inclusion stretches the definition of MMA (and, arguably, taste) to the limit. If you've ever wanted to know how Jeet Kune Do fares against Brazilian Jiujitsu, though, you now have a good reason to look forward to EA Sports UFC's release on June 17th.

OMG OMG OMG... sorry, but our inner Japanese school-girl was just unleashed with the arrival of the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition. If Nokia had any sense, they'd expand the action-doll bundle to the world beyond Hong Kong. Even for 8,788 Chinese Yuan (about $1,286) we're seriously tempted. Watch Bruce clean up at ping pong in the Nokia video posted after the break -- no, really.[Via Unwired View, Thanks Robin oL]

Have you ever met that someone on an MMO that excited you to the point where the addiction of the game mixed with the addiction to discovery of this desirable stranger creates a high so strong that your heart skips just to see that special someone's name pop up on your friends list, to where you ache to hear that Ventrilo voice, to where you get turned on just by flirting while your game fueled creative mind is ready to race into realms of dream-time in a wave of delight, allure, and pleasure that the dingy world of Earth so rarely offers in this lifetime? Um, me neither. • Xbox was the Hulk, 360 is Bruce Lee

There's an interesting article up on FastCompany.com concerning the design of our beloved white box. By now, the iconic "inhale" design is well known by the game industry in general and 360 fans in particular. What you may not know is the inspiration of the famous design: Bruce Lee. During the design process, Microsoft had narrowed down its design candidates to three firms. Among these was JDK, the design firm created by Jake Burton Carpenter, founder of Burton Snowboards. Microsoft had agreed to see all three presentations and choose the winner from among them. JDK went first. By the time the presentation was over, the Xbox team already knew who had won.According to JDK's Michael Jager, the original Xbox was about power. Not just power, but brute force. To demonstrate this, Jager sliced an "X" into a piece of paper and thrust his head through it, shouting, "X today is all AARGGHHH!" He compared it to the Incredible Hulk. Taking the paper and reversing it, Jager demonstrated that the "X" could also be a doorway, something more inviting. Jager convinced Microsoft that the Xbox 360 would have to demonstrate power, but show a hint of grace and elegance as well. In other words, the "new" Xbox had to be Bruce Lee, not the Hulk. In fact, the "inhale" design was derived from Bruce Lee as well, mimicking an inhalation of breath before a powerful strike. The rest of the article details some of JDK's background and a few more bits about the Xbox 360 process. It's not exactly as exciting as say, Devil May Cry 4, but it's worth reading for those curious about the creation of the Xbox 360. Hit the "read" link to check it out.

  • Bruce Lee and Dukes of Hazzard coming to HD DVD

Warner Home Video isn't showing off their September HD DVD releases just yet, but they have added two movies for release July 11. HDTV owners have been clamoring for bigger and better titles on high definition DVD formats and while these may not be the special-effect loaded killer titles we would like to see, they aren't bad either. Dukes of Hazzard did pretty well at the box office last year starring the guy from Jackass, Stifler and a pop singer as the Dukes family. Now it comes to HD DVD with Warner's In Movie Experience (IME) feature promising a "trouble-making, car-crashing, barroom-brawling in-movie viewing experience". We were hoping for a silent version of Jessica Simpson's music video, but this will have to do.The other movie announced is Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon, originally released just after his death and possibly his most popular movie in the U.S. Both movies will feature the same extras as their DVD counterparts and carry an SRP of $28.99. Warner is still expected to release on Blu-ray as well, but we haven't received any information on dates or titles.
