IRL: Testing the Nokia Lumia 1020's optional camera grip / battery case

If you're going to buy the Lumia 1020 for its 41-megapixel camera (and if not that, what the heck did you buy it for?) you may as well spring for the $59 camera grip too. That's what Philip told himself, anyway, after picking up the phone on AT&T.
Nokia Lumia 1020 price drops to $199 in the US
One of the barriers to Lumia 1020 adoption in the US has been the high price; you've had to really love phone photography to justify spending $299 on-contract. That shouldn't be an issue from now on, as both AT&T and Microsoft have permanently dropped the Nokia flagship's price to $199 with a two-year agreement. If you buy from the Microsoft Store, you'll even get a free black camera grip through a limited-time offer. The new pricing might not sway every Windows Phone fan when a next-gen Lumia may lurk just around the corner, but those who've been waiting for a good bargain on the 1020 will find one at the source links.
Nokia's Lumia 1020 leaks again with substantial camera grip for battery boost (update: new camera UI spotted)
Three colors, 41 megapixels. What else is there to say about the incoming Lumia 1020? Well, The Verge has laid its hands on a picture of the previously FCC-listed detachable camera grip, which would put it closer to the side profile of Samsung's Galaxy S4 Zoom than preceding Lumias. With a micro-USB connection and a four-dot LED display like that seen on Nokia's own charging peripherals, it's very likely that there'll be some extra battery power housed inside it too. Rumored specs from UnleashThePhones say it could arrive with a 2,000mAh battery built-in, dual-core Snapdragon processor and a 4.5-inch AMOLED display identical to Nokia's last new phone, the Lumia 925. At least it's now just a matter of hours, not weeks, till we can cement all the details. Update: More leaks! But we're keeping them housed here for now. Below you can see what's purported to be new camera interface for the Lumia 1020's Pro Cam app lens, from serial EOS leaker, @vizileaks. We're hoping it'll be intuitive as it looks, with quick-access to ISO settings, white balance, metering and shutter speed all arranged in concentric circles. It also appears the new Lumia will be able to "dual capture" both at a higher and more typical resolution at the same time.

Belkin is making it easier for you to turn your iPhone into a real camera. The LiveAction Camera Grip is made of rich corinthian leather soft touch plastic and connects to your iPhone 4, 4S or iPod touch via the dock port. It sits on the heel of the phone with separate shutter release and video / stills buttons for easy snapping. On the bottom is a standard size tripod mount for when you need a mechanically steady hand. At the same time, you can grab the LiveAction remote -- a Bluetooth control that can shoot pictures from up to 30m, saving you the ten-second-timer-dash. If the surface won't hold your phone neatly, you also get a detachable prop. Undecided buyers should check out the press release after the break; those who believe in love at first sight just need to know both are available from mid December and will set you back $50 each.
