Toshiba takes on GoPro with its Camileo X-Sports action cam (hands-on)
We're guessing that a few companies have been eyeing GoPro's position at the top of the action-cam market with envy. That's why Toshiba is launching the Camileo X-Sports, a boxy action camera that strongly takes after that aforementioned leading brand. The small, 94-gram (3.3-ounce) unit comes with a 2-inch LCD display, a 12-megapixel CMOS sensor and the ability to shoot 60fps video. There's a 10x digital zoom paired with an ultra-wide angle lens, micro-USB and mini-HDMI ports and the battery promises to last 1.5 hours when shooting 60fps and over two hours at 30fps. It'll also connect directly over 802.11 b/g/n WiFi to a nearby smartphone or tablet, so you can use the larger device as a viewfinder for your more arty powder shredding montages. The retail package will also come with a bundled waterproof casing, wristband remote control as well as several mounts, and will be available in Europe before Christmas for €250 ($330). Toshiba intros Camileo BW20 waterproof camcorder, available now for $130
Toshiba might have missed the summer vacationers by just a bit, but with the beautiful fall season just around the corner in the US, it's that period to introduce a new Camileo to the group. This time out it's the follow-up to the company's rather colorful BW10 from last year. Enter the adequately named BW20. Aside from nabbing a numerical bump on its moniker, the BW20 brings the same 1080p video recording found on its predecessor, plus improved waterproof capabilities that now allow the camcorder to handle up to 16 feet below water. Perhaps, the most interesting fact here is the BW20's new price tag, which is now $130 -- 20 bucks less than the BW10. Toshiba Camileo Air10 WiFi camcorder available now for $160 from HSN
Remember that Toshiba full HD WiFi camcorder we got our hands on back at CES? Well, if you've been jonesin' for one since January, you're in luck. The Camileo Air10 is now available from HSN for the "event price" of $159.95 and ships with a 4GB SDHC card. In case you're a bit hazy on the details, the Air10 is ready for uploads and live-streaming without being anchored to a computer. It shoots 16 megapixel photos and the aforementioned 1080p video before sending it on to services like UStream, YouTube, Facebook, Picasa and Twitvid. Toshiba Camileo Air10 hands-on revisited: with sample video
We've already gotten our hands on Toshiba's Camileo Air10, but there was one crucial ingredient missing from our initial impressions -- an actual glimpse at how clips recorded with the device turned out. We swung by the company's booth on the floor, slipped one of our own SD cards in the device and took a quick video at 1080p with image stabilization enabled. The results? Not so great. While image quality and color reproduction was acceptable, clips were very shaky -- even with stabilization turned on. Perhaps someone with steadier hands (not running on two hours of sleep and caffeine fumes) would have better results -- actually, we sure of it. Toshiba announces Camileo Air10, its first WiFi camcorder, and the Z100 3D
Ever since the Flip went bye-bye all has been mostly quiet on the pocket camcorder front, but today we seem to be hitting the jackpot when it comes to new budget cams. First, Sony unveiled the Bloggie Live (which, er live-streams), and now Toshiba is showing off the Air its first wireless camcorder, the Camileo Air10. Like the Bloggie Live, it's equipped for easy uploads and live-streaming, though in this case the list of supported services includes UStream, YouTube, Facebook, Picasa and Twitvid. For the money, it also snaps 16MP stills and does 1080p video, as does every other camcorder in Toshiba's stable. Moving along, Toshiba also announced the Z100 3D, a 3D camcorder with a glasses-free 3D touchscreen LCD (it's a wee one, at 2.8 inches, so we're not sure how much you'll be able to appreciate the 3D effects before outputting it to a TV). This, too, takes 16 megapixel photos. Look for the Air10 to hit for $150 next month, with the Z100 3D arriving in late March for $220. Sean Buckley contributed to this post.
Toshiba Camileo x416, x400 and x200 get pricing, availability, lots of zoom
Looks like some of those Toshiba camcorders that we first caught wind of back in Berlin at IFA are hitting our neck of the woods. The Camileo x400 and x200 are now available in the States, for $299 and $279, respectively. The company will also be offering up a higher-end x416 on October 10th for $319. All three camcorders shoot 1080p video and feature a similar barrel-shaped design with a three-inch swiveling touchscreen LCD. The x416 and x400 feature similar specs, with 23x optical zoom, 120x digital zoom, on-screen video trimming and expandable memory. The x416, however, will also have 16GB of storage built-in. The x200, naturally, will have more modest specs, like a relatively paltry 12x optical zoom. Press info after the break.
Toshiba announces Camileo Clip, X200 and X400 camcorders
Not surprisingly, Toshiba is covering all the bases at IFA today, with it now also announcing its latest batch of camcorders. That includes the Camileo Clip pictured above (which actually has a clip 'round back for hands-free shooting), as well as the more traditional Camileo X200 and X400, all three of which record 1080p video and rely exclusively on SD cards for storage. The X200 and X400 also, of course, steps things up quite a bit in terms of features, the standout ones being a 12x optical zoom on the X200 and a 23x zoom on the X400. Still no word on prices for any of them, but Toshiba says they'll be available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year (in Europe, at least). Toshiba's Camileo P100 and B10 continue their world tour, arrive stateside
We're pretty sure that most of the attention Toshiba receives today will center around the handful of laptops it unveiled this morning (particularly this handsome devil). But the outfit also managed to slip in some camcorder news -- those Camileo P100 and B10 models it announced for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East are now on sale in the US. If you recall, both camcorders shoot 1080p video and snap 16 megapixel stills, though the pistol-shaped P100 adds 5X optical zoom -- still an uncommon spec for pocket cam. The P100 is available now for $180, while the Flip-inspired B10 can be had for $120. PR after the break.
Toshiba's waterproof Camileo BW10 does 1080p video, 5 megapixel stills for $150
Flip might have died an untimely death, but spring is here, the birds are chirping, and the march of vacation-ready pocket cams continues -- Toshiba just announced the Camileo BW10, whose rubberized coating makes it usable in water as deep as 6.5 feet. At $150, it's a smidge cheaper than other rugged 1080p camcorders, but then again, you'll pay a premium for models you can use in deeper water. In addition to video, it snaps 5 megapixel photos and has an SD card slot, USB port, and HDMI output, though Toshiba regrettably doesn't bundle an HDMI cable. Not a deal-breaker? You can nab one in yellow or silver on Toshiba's site today with an instant $20 rebate.
Toshiba intros Camileo P100 and B10 pocket camcorders, strays from tried-and-true pistol grip
The seasons come and go, but Toshiba's line of Camileo pocket camcorders tend to look the same, with their pistol grips and flip-out screens. But now, Tosh is getting ready to ship two new models in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, and one of them, at least, takes the company's design in a different direction. The B10 camcorder has a candy bar shape with a front-facing lens -- much like the Flip camcorders that kicked off the pocket cam craze in the first place. The B10 shoots at Full HD resolution, snaps 16 megapixel stills, has 16X digital zoom, and takes SDXC cards as large as 64GB. Prefer the ole' pistol grip? The P100 boasts the same specs and adds 5X optical zoom -- still a rarity in inexpensive pocket cams. Toshiba hasn't announced pricing yet, though the two will go on sale sometime in the second quarter. In the meantime, check out the press release for more deets.
Toshiba Camileo S30 and P20 pocket camcorders get touchscreens
Toshiba's launching some new Camileo pocket HD camcorders at IFA, and hey -- just like everything else in the world, they've sprouted three-inch touchscreens. Both offer 1080p recording and 10x digital zooms with HDMI out and support for 64GB SD storage; the £139 ($214) S30 comes in a more standard form factor that's 19mm (.7 inch) thick and features eight megapixel still photos, automatic exposure control and image stabilization, while the £119 ($183) P20 comes in a pistol grip package and takes five megapixel stills. The P20 will hit in October, while the S30 is set to arrive in January, so it makes perfect sense for Toshiba to announce it now, in September. PR after the break.
Toshiba Camileo S20, H30, and X100 HD camcorders finally available in US
Toshiba has long been out of the US market camcorder game, but now it's jumping back in with... well, a trio of Camileo 1080p video recorders that have been sold across the sea for many months at this point -- gotta start back somewhere, right? First up is the ultra-thin and pocketable S20 ($180) featuring a 3-inch swivel display, 4x digital zoom, and 4 megapixel stills. Up next is the H30 ($250) with a more traditional body, a 3-inch touchscreen swivel display, and 4x digital / 5x optical zoom. At the top of the pile is the $400 X100 (pictured), which ups the ante on zoom at 10x digital / 10x optical. Toshiba Camileo HD camcorders get refreshed with S20, H30 and X100 models
Toshiba's just announced a refresh of its previous Camileo HD camcorder lineup, throwing three new models into the mix, all packing full HD resolution and dedicated buttons for uploading straight to the YouTube. First up, the S20 is an ultra-slim (17mm thick), "style conscious" model with a 5 megapixel sensor for still photography, plus a 4x digital zoom and a 3-inch rotating display. The beefier H30 and X100 models boast 10 megapixel sensors and LCD touchscreen displays, with the H30 boasting 5x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom, and the X100 packing 10x optical and 10x digital zooms, plus 4GB of built-in flash memory. All of these bad boys will be unleashed in the 4th quarter of this year, with the S20 running £119.99 (about $195), the H30 £189.99 (about $309), and the X100 will cost you £269.99 (about $440).
Toshiba Camileo S10 pocketcam: the $200 1080p Flip-killer?
It's been a while since we first caught wind of the mysterious Toshiba Camileo S10, but the pocket camcorder has finally broken loose, and it's looking like a pretty solid competitor to the Flip Mino HD and the Kodak Zi6 -- it amps up the video resolution to 1080p and also takes five megapixel stills. That's pretty impressive for a pocketcam spec sheet, but the best part is the price -- if this thing lands Stateside for close to the £130 ($181) UK pricetag, we'd have to find reasons not to snap one up. Toshiba readies three 1080p Camileo camcorders for Europe
We can't say with any level of certainty why Toshiba chose to announce its new Camileo after CES and before CeBIT, but whatever the reason, we're sure it's a good one. Introduced today over in Germany are three new camcorders, all of which boast simple controls for the technologically challenged and easy uploading to YouTube. The whole lot captures in gorgeous 1080p, and they all feature a handy HDMI output for showing off clips as soon as you snag them. The higher-end Camileo P30 arrives with 128MB of internal storage, an SD card slot, a 3-inch LCD monitor and a 5x optical zoom; the H20 steps down to a 2.5-inch display, while the S10 remains mostly mysterious. As for the bits that matter most, the S10 and P30 will be available early next month for €149 ($197) / €199 ($263), respectively, while the H20 can be snapped up now for €249 ($329).[Via Stuff]
Toshiba rolls out budget-priced Camileo H10 HD camcorder
It looks like those wanting to get some HD recoding done on the cheap but not willing to venture into some less familiar territory now have a new option to consider from Toshiba, which is set to release its new Camileo H10 camcorder. It'll give you the usual 720p recording, along with a 5x optical zoom, a 10-megapixel sensor, 64MB of memory, an SDHC card slot for expansion, image stabilization, motion detection and, of course, an HDMI output to let you view your low-budget masterpieces. No word on a release 'round these parts, unfortunately, but those in the UK can apparently get their hands on one at the end of the month for £180 ($360, or less once the VAT and whatnot are taken out of the equation).[Via Tech Digest]
Toshiba intros Camileo Pro digital video camera
Toshiba looks set to release a new digital video camera for those interested in a little point and shoot action, with its new Camileo Pro offering some slight advantages over the previous plain old Camileo. This one boasts a 7 megapixel sensor, according to Le Journal du Geek, and will capture 640 x 480 video in either MPEG-4 or AVI formats, with a 2.5-inch LCD, 3x optical zoom, SD card slot, and 64MB of internal storage rounding out the specs. While there doesn't appear to be any word of a North America release, those in Europe will be able to get their hands on one for 199€ ($268).
