Ask Massively: Canada Day edition
Yes, Canada Day was last week. But a couple of our readers expressed some displeasure about the fact that America's birthday gets observances in MMOs while Canada's birthday doesn't. And you know what? That does seem unfair. So let's hear it for Canada! I've had the good fortune to meet a number of wonderful Canadian players in various MMOs over the years, and I can say without reservation that the nation deserves more recognition beyond the ubiquitous jokes about its relationship to America. So hooray for Canada, and happy belated birthday to our northern neighbors! Seriously, let's hope BioWare gives us a Star Wars: The Old Republic holiday for Canada Day. I would be thrilled. As you've probably guessed, this week's edition of Ask Massively is just a wee bit subjective, and considering that our questions tackle the issues of humans in game stories and microtransactions in MMOs, we really saw no way around it. Got a question of your own for a future installment of the column? Mail it to ask@massively.com, or leave it in the comments below.

PlayStation Store celebrates Canada Day with free Charlie's Angels
Sony has a special surprise for Canadians today. To celebrate Canada Day (and the Canadian launch of the PlayStation Network video delivery service), Sony is offering a download of Charlie's Angels for free. To access the video service, go to the PlayStation Store on your PS3 or PSP, and click on the new "Video" tab at the top. An e-mail will be sent to the registered PSN account with a redeemable voucher. The offer is valid in Canada only, and unfortunately, cannot be traded in for a better movie.
Enter to win some loot cards from WoW.com and WoWTCG.com
Is it just me, or have we had lots of EU-only contests lately? First, Lesley gives away some loot cards for the EU, and then Turpster gives away some more. This is July 4th, and it's about time we served the North American side of the globe! (Canada, we missed Canada Day, so we'll throw you in the mix, too). Courtesy of our good friends over at WoWTCGLoot.com (be sure to visit them if you need to know anything about the TCG Loot cards), let's give away some loot codes! We've got 10 in total that we'll give away to ten random commenters on this post before tomorrow night, Sunday July 5th, at midnight. There's an Epic Purple Shirt, two Sandbox Tigers, three Papa Hummel's Pet Biscuits, and four Party Grenades up for grabs -- to enter, just leave a comment on this post, and since it's Independence Day, how about telling us what your favorite kind of firework is. I was always partial to the black snakes -- most people though they were boring, but I knew how the big ones blew up, and I never really understood just how those darned snakes worked. One comment per person in the US and Canada only, please, and do be sure to use a real email address when you comment (that you check often) so we can get in touch with you ASAP if you win. Good luck to everyone, and happy Independence Day!

X3F wishes all Canadians a Happy Canada Day!
As Canadians brave raging winter storms, fight for electricity and battle it out for the opportunity to club the last National baby seal, the country turned another year older today. The team at X3F would like to wish all our loyal Canadian readers a happy and safe Canada Day. We'd recommend that you be safe while you ignite the largest fireworks allowed by law but let's face it, losing an arm is half the fun. Also note that all of the Canadian-based jokes in this post were written by the only Canadian on staff. Just thought we'd mention it, even though we know that you know it's all out of love! Happy 141st Birthday Canada.
Canada Day Futureshop, Best Buy Canada promotions
In honor of Canada Day on July 1, FutureShop and Best Buy Canada are bundling up savings and throwing them to Canadian consumers. This week, until July 3, Best Buy Canada is offering the Xbox 360 Premium console with the recently released Alone in the Dark for $349.99; a savings of $60. Best Buy is also holding a Buy 2 for $99 promotion on Ninja Gaiden II, Battlefield: Bad Company and Hellboy: The Science of Evil! Select any two of the three for a huge savings (we wonder which two people will pick!). Lastly, Best Buy is offering Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for $89.99 netting gamers a $10 instant savings and $5 off a 12 month subscription to Xbox Live ($54.99).Not to be outdone, FutureShop continues its console bundling experiments by mixing an Xbox 360 Elite with Gears of War and Dark Sector for $449.99 (a $90 value). Also for those who haven't picked up Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV, the title has dropped $5 to $54.99. Hey, every penny counts!
Sony giving away three red PS3s to those blasted Canadians
Happy Canada Day, eh? PlayStation.ca is celebrating that finest of patriotic traditions with three limited edition red PS3s to be handed out to lucky contest winners. You don't need to do much to enter, just fill out a few details about yourself and call Canada your home -- or find someone to do it for you who can. The custom paint job is being done by Adrian Anz, tech customizer to the stars, and sounds like it won't be at all shabby. Of course, if you don't luck out, don't live in that vast northern wasteland, or don't want to wait for the contest to wrap up, you can always ship your system off to ColorWare or pony up for an eBay job. Just be sure you have a few pennies left over to help offset the cost of a few of those 380 promised PS3 games in the coming months -- no point in having a red PS3 if you can't afford anything to play on it. Now when are Sony and Nintendo going to get their acts together and start selling color alternatives outright?

Again, the downloads are free and will only be available for a short time to help celebrate Canada's birthday. Also, Jade posted an article over on Xbox.com counting down her favorite Canadian gamers and our very own David Dreger (aka Knuckles Dawson) made the list!
