The Television Academy has revealed this year's Emmy nominations and to absolutely no one's surprise, Game of Thrones scooped up the most nods with 32, including Outstanding Drama Series and 10 nominees across various acting categories. The show with the second-highest tally of nominations is Amazon Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with 20. It won several awards last year, including the top Outstanding Comedy Series prize. It's nominated again in that category.

Hulu's Castle Rock, the anthology series from JJ Abrams and Stephen King, will return for a second season. The streaming service announced the renewal today, just shortly after the first season's premiere. Hulu also said that the show, which will drop its sixth episode on Wednesday, had the most successful first-season launch of any of its originals to date in terms of reach and consumption.

Apple is helping to promote Hulu's Castle Rock in a surprising way: By offering the premiere episode free on the Apple TV app. It'll be available to iPhone, iPad and Apple TV users in the US later today, and it'll be there exclusively for two weeks. It's a smart move for both Apple and Hulu. Castle Rock -- based on Stephen King's rich universe of stories -- is one of the most anticipated series this summer, and early reviews have been incredibly positive. By offering the first episode for free, Apple can get more people to pay attention to its TV app, while also encouraging viewers to pick up a Hulu subscription to keep watching.

Ever since Hulu announced Castle Rock, there's been a lingering question: just what would JJ Abrams' take on Stephen King's universe look like? You now have a better idea. Hulu has posted the first trailer for the series, and it makes more than a few references to King's many stories. Shawshank State Prison gets more than one nod, to start. Even the casting pays tribute. It star Bill Skarsgård shows up at one point, while Carrie's Sissy Spacek is returning to King's landscape -- albeit as a different character.

The first collaboration between JJ Abrams and Stephen King on an original Hulu series (11.22.63) clearly went well, as the two are coming back for another round. Abrams' Bad Robot studio has teased Castle Rock, another Hulu show based on King's writing -- in this case, the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine that has served as the backdrop for many of the author's stories. The clip gives away precious little (not even a rough release schedule), but it touches on legendary locations like Shawshank State Prison and characters like Pennywise the clown. In other words, you can expect the show to include plenty of winks and nods toward King's literary legacy.

  • Today's lesson: don't mow the lawn while listening to your iPod during a lightning storm

The Denver Post is reporting that Bunch, a 17-year-old teenager in Castle Rock, CO, was struck by lightning while mowing the lawn and listening to his iPod. While scientists aren't laying any money down on how likely it is that lightning sought out the teenager's iPod, the boy and his mother suspect Apple's little white player acted as a sort of  lightning rod in this most unfortunate of accidents. The strike traveled all the way down his earbuds, burning his ears and the side of his face, causing Bunch to lose some of his hearing. All things considered, Bunch and his mother are just happy that he is alive.[via iLounge]Thanks Gidge.
