It seems even the Mushroom Kingdom eats cereal like the rest of us. Following the release of Super Mario Odyssey, breakfast blog Cerealousy has uncovered a new breakfast treat with Mario and Cappy on the box. Inside, you'll find star-shaped oats and marshmallow pieces in the shape of Super Mushrooms, 1-Up Mushrooms and ? Boxes.

A virtual reality (VR) headset now costs the same as a box of breakfast cereal, provided you've got a decent smartphone lying around. In New Zealand, Kellogg's is promoting packs of Nutri-Grain by bundling instructions that transform the box into a Google Cardboard-style device. As a photo by Geekzone shows, the piece with the two lenses is contained separately, and with a little assembly you'll have a makeshift headset that uses your smartphone as the display. Scanning the QR code on the box will send you to the "NG Bolt" app in the App Store or Google Play, where you can watch one of three videos -- a wingsuit flight, a mountain bike ride and a downhill longboard session. Sure, it's nothing like the Oculus Rift, but like Google Cardboard it's a creative way of bringing VR to the masses.

Look at it! We mean, just look at it! Have you ever seen something so mind-numbingly precious in your entire life? The only thing cuter than this baby-sized toy Guitar Hero controller (is that a "toy toy?") would be to watch an actual baby playing Guitar Hero with it. ... Oh, and the baby is wearing a powdered wig and neon sunglasses. (Seriously, what's cuter than that?)The only un-adorable thing is that this tiny contraption was discovered in a box of Frosted Mini Wheats, meaning we're going to have to buy an inferior cereal if we want one of our very own. (P.S. Someone needs to update the Instrument Compatibility Matrix to include guitars that only work on our hearts.)[UPDATE: Our friends at That Video Game Blog report that you can also find the toys in Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, Corn Pops and Rice Crispies, so you won't necessarily have to punish your tongue with Mini-Wheats.]

  • Boxart battle: Rock Blast vs Trix

We recently came across this cover for UFO Interactive's Rock Blast -- a game we'd never even heard of before -- and immediately thought of, what else, Trix. Juxtaposing the two designs, it's impossible not to see the similarities! Comparing the two releases, though Rock Blast doesn't limit its potential audience to "just kids," Trix, being a breakfast cereal and all, has the advantage of being delicious.Yes, you could argue that Rock Blast's puffed spheres have more color to them, implying richer fruit flavoring, but you're forgetting that Trix is also a good source of whole grain and calcium. No need to feel embarrassed, it's a common mistake. Bring a spoon past the post break and dig into a larger version of the Rock Blast cover.See also: Boxart battle: Emblem of Gundam vs Front Mission 2089

digg_url='http://digg.com/nintendo/Nintendo_Food_Poisoning_System'; Here's why we can never bid on a sealed container of the Nintendo Cereal System like this one: we'd be too tempted to taste it. We're equally driven by memories of the cereal's taste and curiosity about how it would hold up. And then we'd have not only wasted 80 bucks (as of right now), we'd have made ourselves sick. That would be a fun story to tell the emergency room doctor! We're content to watch the commercial over and over again. It's free and gastrointestinally safe. While we're looking at this wonderfully deadly collectible, check out the dual-cereal design. Ralston totally predicted the DS design -- in food! Here's a reason to eat your Wheaties, or rather your Mini-Wheats. Kellogs is offering 5 Xbox mini-games in specially marked boxes of Frosted Flakes, Fruit Loops, Rice Krispies, Corn Pops and the afore mentioned Mini-Wheats. These aren't games on disc. They're old school Tiger-style LCD games designed with collectable flair. Sweet! Here's what might show up in your bowl if you're lucky: Spaceship Blaster - Eliminate the enemy spaceships before they reach you Motorcycle Madness - Avoid or eliminate oncoming traffic to move up a level and win Disco Mania - Copy the dance instructor's moves to move through the levels Robo Blast - Capture the robots before they escape Mystic Castle - Navigate through the castle, collecting gems and defeating enemies Hey, the Zune costs more and doesn't come with handle bars or sugar-encrusted flakes. Unfortunately for cereal killers in the US, this Kellogs promotion is only for Canada and Australia. But there's alway Ebay.
