  • Christian Bale no longer set to play Steve Jobs in upcoming Aaron Sorkin flick

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Christian Bale has pulled out of the Aaron Sorkin penned Steve Jobs biopic. The report claims that Bale decided to withdraw from the film because he felt he wasn't right for the role. Sources say Bale, after much deliberation and conflicting feelings, came to the conclusion he was not right for the part and decided to withdraw. The script is said to be divided into three acts that detail Jobs preparing for three presentations that came to define his life and the life of the company he co-founded, lost and came back to. Not even a week ago, Sorkin explained that Bale secured the Jobs role without even so much as an audition. "He has more words to say in this movie than most people have in three movies combined," Sorkin said. "There isn't a scene or a frame that he's not in. So it's an extremely difficult part and he is gonna crush it." Personally, Bale's casting actually got me excited for the movie, which was quite a feat given how forgettable the first Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher was. All in all, it's a shame to see Bale pull out. So now the question becomes, who else has the acting chops to take on what will undoubtedly be a demanding role? Edward Norton, maybe? The great thing about the Bale casting (for the glorious week that it lasted) is that in addition to being a tremendous actor, Bale would have arguably been able to emulate Jobs' outward appearance more easily than some other top actors in the game today.

It's confirmed, folks. Academy Award winning actor Christian Bale will be taking on the role of Steve Jobs in the upcoming Aaron Sorkin penned biopic on the Apple co-founder. Bloomberg confirmed the news early on Thursday, with Sorkin himself noting that Bale secured the role without even going through a formal audition. The movie itself won't be a typical cradle to grave type of biopic. Rather, Sorkin's take on Jobs will consist of three 30-minute scenes, each set backstage "before a trio of historic product launches: the original Macintosh, the NeXT and the iPod." "He has more words to say in this movie than most people have in three movies combined," Sorkin told Bloomberg. "There isn't a scene or a frame that he's not in. So it's an extremely difficult part and he is gonna crush it." Given Bale's track record, we're inclined to agree.

The JOBS movie starring Ashton Kutcher didn't exactly garner many positive reviews, but a second effort at a Steve Jobs biopic may very well be worth paying attention to. In mid-2012, Sony Pictures announced that it hired famed screenwriter Aaron Sorkin to write a movie screenplay about Steve Jobs. With titles like A Few Good Men and The Social Network to his credit, Sorkin's involvement gave the project a whole lot of buzz. Now comes word via The Wrap that director David Fincher (who has been in talks to direct the film) would like the caped crusader himself, Christian Bale, to take on the role of Jobs. According to the report, Fincher, who previously directed the thoroughly enjoyable The Social Network, will only join the project if Bale is tapped to play the part of the Apple co-founder. Sorkin, who won an Oscar for writing Fincher's Facebook drama "The Social Network," based his script on Walter Isaacson's bestselling authorized biography. That book was, in turn, based on more than 40 interviews that author had with Jobs, as well as interviews with friends, family and colleagues. The film consists of three long scenes regarding Apple's buzzed-about product launches, including the Mac, NeXT (after Jobs had left Apple) and the iPod. Production could begin before the end of the year, though an early 2015 start is more likely, as both Bale and Fincher will be busy this fall promoting their respective movies, "Exodus" and "Gone Girl." Sorkin, who perhaps is best known for his work on The West Wing, reportedly finished the script for the movie this past January. During a November 2012 interview, Sorkin said that the script would consist of just three scenes that all take place backstage prior to important product announcements.

Looks like someone at Gearbox Software watched a bit too many YouTube videos this summer. This "behind the scenes" video of the upcoming Borderlands reveals almost nothing of the game's development process. Instead, we get to see the game's robotic mascot, Claptrap, live up to his namesake by going on a rant that would make the Terminator Salvation star proud. Or really pissed off. That guy is crazy.

Taking time out of his Terminator Salvation press tour to sit down with Conversations, Christian Bale spoke about his childhood love for our lifetime passion, video games. When the interviewer brings up Roger Ebert's review of the film (video game reference in tow), he then asks Bale if he played video games "in his younger years," to which Bale replies, "I played video games in my entire growing-up years. One of my favorites is Super Mario. I wouldn't sleep until I finished the game, you know."Not quite the drug-addled gaming experiences of Alec Baldwin, but sleepless nights in front of the television are something we can all relate to regardless. Not everyone can be a Jack Donaghy, ya know?

A press release promoting the upcoming technopocalypse sim Terminator Salvation: The Videogame (not to be confused with Terminator Salvation: The Movie or Terminator Salvation: The X-treme Bible for Time Traveling Robots) which recently landed in our inbox was a grab bag of mixed blessings. It unveiled the talent which will lend their voices and likenesses to the game -- notable names include hip-hop artist Common, actress Moon Bloodgood, and Rose McGowan, who will voice a role exclusive to the game.Sadly, the film's star, Christian Bale, wasn't on the list of included voice actors we received. We contacted Mr. Bale for a comment, and received the following (NSFW) response: "WHAT THE (explitive deleted) IS IT WITH YOU? WHAT DONT YOU (e.d.)ING UNDERSTAND? YOU GOT ANY (e.d.)ING IDEA ABOUT, "HEY IT'S (e.d.)ING DISTRACTING HAVING SOMEONE ASK ME ABOUT VIDEO GAMES WHILE I'M WORKING ON A (e.d.)ING SCENE? GIVE ME AN ANSWER! WHAT DON'T YOU GET ABOUT IT? (e.d.)'S SAKE MAN, YOU'RE AMATEUR."Full presser's after the (e.d.)ing break.
