    Lyft tests unlimited Citi Bike rides for Pink subscribers

    Would 'free' Citi Bike rentals sway you on Lyft's Pink subscription service? Starting this week, select Lyft customers -- including those who are yet to try Pink -- will be offered two-month access to Citi Bike's blue two-wheelers.

    Lyft is offering free, 30-day bike-share passes to critical workers in New York City, Chicago and Boston. This should help people who still have to get to work during the coronavirus pandemic, and to keep them safe, Lyft says it is ramping up its cleaning efforts.

    Lyft's e-bikes return to New York City after a braking issue delay

    After a delay due to brake issues, Lyft's Citi Bike has rolled out a fleet of "several hundred" e-bikes in New York City. They're now available to rent at any of the 900 Citi Bike stations in the city via the City Bike app, Lyft app or a member key.

    Lyft adds New York’s Citi Bikes to its app

    Beginning in May, Lyft customers in New York City will be able to use Citi Bikes through the ridesharing app. Users won't need a separate account or login to locate or unlock the bikes. The Lyft app will automatically show how many bikes are available at nearby stations. When users are ready to ride, they'll receive a five-digit code, which they can enter in any dock at a given station to release the bike of their choice. Both of the services are popular on their own, so together, they could have a meaningful impact on transportation in New York.

    Lyft removes e-bikes from various cities over unexpectedly strong brakes

    Lyft-owned bike-sharing services are removing electric bikes from their respective fleets in New York, Washington and San Francisco citing safety concerns. Citi Bike, Capital Bikeshare, and Ford GoBike recalled the e-bikes after "a small number" of users experienced "stronger than expected braking force on the front wheel." The New York Times reports that "dozens" of Citi Bike riders in NYC have reported injuries while riding the e-bikes, prompting the company to pull 1,000 electric bicycles from the streets.

    The sharing economy took a turn toward the two-wheeled here at CES on Thursday when Lattis, "the smart city company," introduced its Ellipse Smart Bike Lock. As its name implies, the Ellipse packs as many IoT features as it can into its solar-powered frame. That includes an accelerometer to monitor for sudden stops (i.e., you crash or get hit by a car) and Bluetooth connectivity for remote unlocking and pushing theft-attempt alerts to your smartphone.
