SugarSync gets a fresh, new UI and improved search in version 4
SugarSync, which allows you to share your documents, photos, music and other files between computers and mobile devices, has updated its iOS app to version 4.0. The new version features a major redesign which, as you can see above, looks quick slick and functional. In addition to the new app-wide interface, there are two big, new features. Cloud search is a system-wide search that allows you to find files sync'd by SugarSync, no matter which computer or device they happen to be on. And the new "Open In" feature allows you to take photos, videos and other documents from other apps on your mobile device, and open them up inside SugarSync's folders, where you can share them off to anywhere else. SugarSync's a great app that's gotten even better with this update. It's a free download from the App Store, and while you can pay for more storage if you like, everyone using the app gets 5 GB of storage for free. [via Engadget]
Amazon CloudSearch brings A9 to devs and businesses
Amazon certainly isn't the first to offer hosted search services for third parties, but its model might make it the simplest option. Businesses or devs looking to create custom search indexes need only to upload what they want to make searchable and Amazon takes care of the rest -- including deciding how much hardware to provision based on index size and traffic. Using the company's A9 search engine, CloudSearch can quickly whip up complex query tools, including support for Boolean functions. For more details check out the PR after the break.
CloudSight Search gives you instant, unified access to email and social networking archives
Remember those thousands of folks who you suddenly lost contact with last week? Unfortunately for them, they're still looking for years of Gmail records, but if they were proactive enough to initialize a Backupify account, they'd have their entire inbox (as well as their outbox, sent folder, and everything else) just a restore-click away. Backupify's free backup services have worked well here at Engadget HQ, providing a level of assurance that our emails, tweets, photos and Facebook statuses aren't going anywhere -- even if an account is hacked. Now, the company's taking the next logical step by introducing CloudSight Search. It's hailed as the first searchable archive solution for social media and Google Apps, and it lets you type in a single search term / phrase in order to sift through your email accounts and social networking handles for any communications related to the aforesaid query. One search, multiple communication outlets. Of course, it only sifts through what's archived, but given just how frequently the service backs things up, it's pretty darn close to fetching in real-time. The only downside? There's no mobile app, so it looks as if you'll have to consult a legitimate browser to get your search on.
