  • SpaceX had a superhero costume designer make a spacesuit

SpaceX is fond of making technology that looks good, and apparently that extends as far as astronaut gear. Thanks to both a Tested video (at the 12:09 mark) and a recently highlighted Bleep interview, we now know that well-known costume designer Jose Fernandez has crafted a spacesuit for SpaceX. Yes, the same man who clothed superheroes in Batman vs. Superman and Captain America: Civil War is also contributing to the growth of modern spaceflight. You won't get to see the suit until sometime in the next year, but the Bleep chat reveals that SpaceX's Elon Musk wanted the design to be "stylish" and "heroic." This probably won't look much like NASA's utilitarian Z-2, then.

If you missed out on pre-ordering Hyrule Warriors to snag retailer-exclusive costumes inspired by Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time (or wanted more than one set of said costumes), there's good news waiting for you in the eShop, as four costume packs are now available for $0.99 each. Note: While the full game can be purchased via Nintendo's website, the DLC waits in the wings of the Wii U eShop. The Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time costume packs each provide Link and Zelda with costumes inspired by the respective game. A fourth pack, called the Demon King Costume Set, provides two new costumes for Ganondorf - one inspired by his appearance in Ocarina of Time and one inspired by Twilight Princess. All of the costume packs now for sale are the same as those given to customers who pre-ordered (or in the case of the Ganondorf costumes, those in Club Nintendo) so be careful not to make a double purchase. The LittleBigPlanet series has an expansive DLC wardrobe, including level packs and themed costumes, but it seems like none of it will ever go out of style - all free and purchased content released for LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2 will carry over to the PS3 and PS4's LittleBigPlanet 3, a PlayStation Blog post has revealed. Past content can be transferred via a "simple re-download from LBP3's in-game store," which packs it all back into the PopIt menu that hovers beside your character. Progress made in yesteryear isn't forgotten, either - "every single Costume Piece, Material, Object, Music Track and any other creative goodies that you have collected in your previous adventures" can also be brought into LBP3. As a refresher, any meticulously-crafted levels you made in previous LBP games can be found in the continuation of LittleBigPlanet Earth, which will let you "pick up exactly where you left off with your published creations." Custom-created content can also be transferred to a PS4 by publishing levels littered with related Prize Bubbles, then returning in LBP3 to pick up those materials. Whichever console you choose, you can reunite with Sackboy on November 18 (or November 26 in Europe). If you already know you're interested, mind the PlayStation-themed pre-order costumes before you make your purchase. [Image: Media Molecule]

Nintendo introduced Ganondorf as a playable character for Hyrule Warriors during last night's Nintendo Direct livestream dedicated to the game. As it turns out, Club Nintendo members will have access to two special outfits for Ganondorf in the game as well. Those that buy Hyrule Warriors and register the game with Nintendo's loyalty program between September 26 and October 23 will receive a download code for the DLC, which features costumes inspired by Ganondorf's appearances in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. As the primary villain of the Legend of Zelda series, "The Demon King" Ganondorf will annihilate hordes of enemies with dark magic-like moves and his great sword. Hyrule Warriors will launch on September 26 for Wii U and will feature local cooperative multiplayer and some form of online play, though it won't have an online campaign. [Image: Nintendo]

  • The Daily Grind: What's your favorite Secret World deck outfit?

Before I get to the traditional question that powers the Daily Grind, I'd like to give a pre-emptive heads-up to any Massively newbs in the audience. Yes, it was a slow news day when this piece was published (8:00 a.m. EDT). Yes, this is pure fluff meant for fun and perhaps discussion over a cup of coffee. With that out of the way, let's talk The Secret World. More specifically, let's talk about the game's spiffy deck-based outfits. I just finished collecting all of them on my Templar. Some of them are truly butt-ugly, but a handful of them make my character look even more badass than he actually is (which is pretty badass, don't get me wrong). Anyway, which deck outfit is your favorite? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

  • WildStar unveils Strain-themed customization options

It is the doom that slumbers beneath Nexus. It is dread and loathing. It is a vile plague that both the Dominion and Exiles are desperately striving to purge. It's your new housing decor! Yes, the WildStar fashion police have spoken, and with the game's first major update, covering your home in the tentacles, eyeballs, and various protrusions of the Strain is all the rage this year. Also covering your clothing and mounts, because at that point why not, right? Players will be able to pick up new plugs and decor for houses, new costume items and dyes for their personal equipment, a new hoverboard, and new mount customizations, all of which should make your character look completely Strain-infested. If that's what you want, at least. No word on what functions the new plugs will perform, but we're betting it'll be gross. Take a look at the official drop page for a few more pictures of these customizations in action. [Source: Carbine Studios press release]

  • Here's what makes Bayonetta's Nintendo costumes special

    by
    Thomas Schulenberg

    06.21.2014

Bayonetta 2's special brand of absurdity includes a few nods to Nintendo's roster, but its outfits are more than just reminders of Link, Samus and Princess Peach's existence. Isao Negishi, director of the Bayonetta Wii U port that will be bundled with Bayonetta 2, wrote out a few details about the garments, covering summons, sword-based attacks and a prime method to disarm tension. Princess Peach and Bowser disagree on the romantic qualities of kidnapping, but channeling Peach's fashion sense as Bayonetta lets players summon the spiky-shelled antagonist. As seen in the above image, Bowser will stuff his limbs through portals to knock around enemies, leaving coins as remnants of the carnage. Donning Link's tunic adds the Master Sword to Bayonetta's arsenal, but it also recalls iconic audio samples from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Negishi specifically mentions the triumphant sound that plays while opening a treasure chest, but he notes that there will be other audio-based cues as well. Negishi's post finishes with the Samus costume, which reflects the bounty hunter's original suit of armor by request of Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya. While arm cannon-oriented details weren't offered, players will be able to toggle Samus' visor up or down, which Negishi adds is surprisingly amusing when "endlessly going up-down-up-down during the game's more serious moments." Considering Bayonetta's one-liners and the new portal-punching Bowser, it's tough to remember serious moments even exist in this universe. [Image: Platinum Games]

Stop me if you heard this before: Halloween in The Secret World ROCKS! I know, I'm preaching to the choir, right? There just isn't any other game that really comes close to sharing the spirit of the holiday like the one that is perpetually steeped in it. And when Halloween itself finally comes around, you actually have good reason to settle in after those real-life activities and enjoy more ghostly goodness in game. Heck, you can even get gussied up in some elaborate costumes that can include a working chainsaw. Who gets that in meatspace? Last year, however, I went through the agony of living with the fact that circumstances prevented me from experiencing everything the holiday events offered. It was torture seeing that incomplete quest chain and not having a furry little void cat to console me! I want to save you all from the same kind of pain and regret, so here is a quick guide to get you on the path to completing all the festivities before they dissipate into the night on November 11th.

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas will become a nightmare before Halloween, thanks to an upcoming costume pack and level kit for LittleBigPlanet 2 and LittleBigPlanet Vita. Neither piece of DLC has a confirmed release date, but the PlayStation Blog and LittleBigPlanet website both claim we'll see Sack Skellington (haa) and friends sometime "next week." The costume pack includes everything you need to transform your Sackboy or Sackgirl into Jack Skellington, Sally, Dr. Finkelstein or Oogie Boogie. Meanwhile, the level kit will contain stickers, objects, a background and an interactive music track. We know it's probably "This is Halloween," and that "Oogie Boogie's Song" will forever be an underappreciated masterpiece, but what're you gonna do?

  • Captain's Log: More Star Trek Online help for the new player

The news is out! Lobi are now accessible account-wide! They're no longer bound to a single character! While I would love to be able to write an entire column about how happy the change has made me, I won't make our readers endure it, but it sure was a fun way to start off this week's Captain's Log. The good news for some is that this week's column will be dedicated to the brand new players of Star Trek Online. This decision was triggered by an email I received from a reader who wanted to know how he could change his character's outfit without having to go to the tailor all the time. He was a very new player and was embarrassed to ask anyone else, and trusted I wouldn't make him feel a fool. It was then I realized that there are lots of little things in Star Trek Online that aren't obvious to new players. While many of those things are second nature to me now, I recall with bitter clarity what it was like to be so new that asking a stranger for help was akin to playing Russian roulette. So join me past the break as I touch on what all those tiny little icons on the HUD mean.

Capcom has confirmed on its official blog that the DLC episode and costumes recently announced for the Japanese version of Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies will also make their way to western territories, sometime after the game is released on the 3DS eShop this fall. No release date was given for the extra content as no release date yet exists for the game itself, although Capcom did divulge that the bonus episode is entitled "Turnabout Return." It also dropped a small handful of screenshots of the bonus costumes, which we picked up and put into this-here gallery. There was also no word on pricing, or whether the costumes and extra episode will be sold separately. What we do know, and this is perhaps the most important thing, is that there's an orca whale with a mustache and a pretty pink star on its head.%Gallery-194685%
