If you were just thinking that it's been too long since you last got your hands on a new Aeria Games title, you're in luck! DK Online enters closed beta today. Players in DK Online take on the role of Dragon Knights to fight off the terror of the ancient dragon Kharvag. When they're not busy duking it out with an ancient menace, players can hone their skills by beating each other senseless in one of the game's PvP modes. With the launch of closed beta, a new PvP mode has been opened up: Castle Siege is a contest between several guilds, with total domination as the ultimate goal. Skip below the cut for a video preview of Castle Siege. Aeria Games is promising an "avalanche of special events" during closed beta. The game can be downloaded from the official site. For those of you across the pond who have been looking for a bit more action in your "fantasy life," Nexon Europe has a bit of news that will likely be of interest. The company is gearing up to release the Generation 3 update to their game Mabinogi, which will escalate the fight between the Dark Knights (not to be confused with Batman, mind you) and Paladins. As part of Generation 3, players will be able to take up arms and battle for either side -- all the while enjoying newly uncapped skill ranks. Along with the new battle challenges, this update adds in a guild system, perfect for gathering your friends together before you enter the fray. Additionally, the marriage system has also been added for those who want to signify their character's connection with another. (No word on if digital alimony also enters into the picture, but then we'd guess it wouldn't be much of a "fantasy" life.) Experienced and new players alike can also take advantage of special Mabinogi Generation 3 launch quests to land some nice loot as they play. More details are available on the Nexon EU Mabinogi site, or you can check out the shiny new launch trailer after the break.

  • Official Final Fantasy XIV site updated

The official site for Final Fantasy XIV follows several Square-Enix site traditions, by being designed entirely in Flash and having an obnoxiously slow update schedule. Thankfully, an official update has just hit the site, both in the form of several new screenshots (including the lovely in-game shot seen above) and more solid ability information about several of the game's disciplines. Much of it mirrors what we'd seen in early leaks from Japanese magazines, but the abilities and spells of each class shed more light on how the game will play. Conjurers are apparently going to play similar to Scholars, with both traditional black and white magic spells in their arsenal, as well as unique tricks such as being able to cast while moving. Thaumaturges, meanwhile, inherit several Dark Knight draining/sacrificing abilities along with several status ailments. And those are just the two casting professions -- each of the five physical damage professions seem poised for a wide variety of ability combinations, along with a heavy emphasis on position. The beta information for Final Fantasy XIV still seems to be restricted, but the game is already looking intruiging for both fans of the series and general MMO players.
