Numskull Games has revealed that a sequel to its 2010 open-world horror game, Deadly Premonition, is in the works and will be released on Nintendo Switch in 2020. The game developer during Nintendo Direct today dropped a trailer for Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise. The campiness of the Xbox 360 horror game elevated it to a cult classic. Now, the murder mystery continues in a different city, with a new protagonist.

Did you hear that, Zach? Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut is up for pre-order at Steam for 10 percent off of its regular price. My coffee warned me about it this morning. Did you opt out of coffee-relayed push notifications? That's unwise, Zach. Originally launched as a budget Xbox 360 title in 2010, Deadly Premonition's off-kilter, Twin Peaks-inspired horror narrative won it cult classic status among players who were willing to overlook its technical shortcomings. A revised version, Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut, premiered for the PlayStation 3 earlier this year, and was recently Greenlit for a Steam release. Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut will launch on Steam on October 29, just in time for Halloween. Dressing up as the Raincoat Killer this holiday is optional, but recommended.

A cult favorite among horror gamers, Deadly Premonition's B-movie vibe has given it life beyond what games of its quality normally obtain. Now, along with the upcoming release of Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut on Steam, fans of the cheesy adventure can pick up an absolutely massive 352-page virtual book via the iPad for a rather steep US$9.99. For that asking price, you'll get a spoiler-filled book covering many of the game's secrets, a development notebook, a trio of maps that reveal the location of "everything in the game" and the full game soundtrack. Not a bad haul, really, for a game that has been thriving on a wave of "so bad it's good" review scores. But, the price might be a bit high. If you're interested, you can pick up the app right now. It arrives ahead of the Steam launch of Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut, which is set for Halloween.

  • Killer is Dead, Deadly Premonition provide weirdness on demand for Xbox

XSEED has announced a pair of its latest games are now available for download on Xbox 360 through Games on Demand. Deadly Premonition is available for $20, while the more recent Killer is Dead can be yours for $50. Deadly Premonition is a very odd horror game from Swery, otherwise known as Hidetaka Suehiro. Players assume the role of FBI agent Francis York Morgan who is sent to investigate a ritualistic murder in the small town of Greenvale. Players may freely roam about Greenvale and undertake quests and participate in activities while hunting down the Greenvale killer. Killer is Dead, from Grasshopper Manufacture, takes place in the near-future and stars Mondo Zapper – an executioner with a robotic arm who is tasked with killing assassins and dangerous criminals the world over. In our review we noted that Killer is Dead had that undeniable charm that only Grasshopper can instill, even if it's somewhat hampered by simplistic combat and "dark direction and weird narrative a bit tainted by self-indulgence."

The Director's Cut of Deadly Premonition heads for PC on October 31, so if you like your Halloweens hot, Steamy, and completely weird, then you're in luck. After speeding past Greenlight, SWERY65's cult favorite has a date on its newly unveiled Steam page but not yet a price, although we do know pre-purchases will be available two weeks prior to release, according to publisher Rising Star. Deadly Premonition poured a fresh cup of Director's Cut for PS3 earlier this year, the re-release revamping graphics and gameplay. The PC version of Director's Cut adds exclusive DLC, although what that comprises, like so much in this game, is a mystery.

Director SWERY65's intensely bizarre action-adventure game Deadly Premonition is headed to Steam after earning community approval in the latest round of Steam Greenlight votes. Critics weren't quite sure what to make of Deadly Premonition when it was originally launched in 2010 for the Xbox 360, earning it the dubious distinction of "Most Critically Polarizing Survival Horror Game" in the 2012 Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition. The upcoming Steam release is based on the recent PlayStation 3 port Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut, which features a redesigned control scheme and a new batch of bonus content. Fourteen games and two software titles were chosen in Steam Greenlight's most recent community vote, including Krillbite Studio's Kickstarter-funded horror game Among the Sleep, 2D fighter parody Divekick, and the free Half-Life: Opposing Force remake Operation Black Mesa. A full list of today's newly-Greenlit games is after the break below.

Cult favorite Deadly Premonition is one of the biggest names yet on Steam Greenlight, after publisher Rising Star promised an "enhanced" version of the Director's Cut should the eccentric mystery game get voted through. Among the other Director's Cut additions, the PC edition is set to get exclusive DLC. "Rising Star Games is an extremely community-driven publisher and our vocal fans have been calling for a PC version of this game," said Rising Star Games COO Martin Defries, "So using Steam Greenlight gives those fans the chance to make a difference." Developer Access Games first brought the divisive Deadly Premonition to Xbox 360 in 2010, followed by the Director's Cut PS3 version for the west earlier this year. Our coffee forgot to warn us about a possible PC version, didn't it Zach?

Deadly Premonition's release history has been strange: In the United States and Europe, the game launched as an exclusive to the Xbox 360, while Japan received the game as a limited PlayStation 3-only release (albeit under the name "Red Seeds Profile"). Two years after its initial launch, Deadly Premonition's cult status has earned it a 'Director's Cut' release, exclusively planned for release in multiple regions worldwide on the PS3.Aside from bringing the game to Sony loyalists outside of Japan, the Director's Cut also introduces more than a few overhauls to the original, along with stereoscopic 3D and PlayStation Move support, making this visit to Deadly Premonition's 'Greenvale' worthwhile to tourists and citizens alike.%Gallery-178696%

Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut will drive from Greenvale all the way to Europe in order to arrive on April 19. Magical realism makes it possible. Like the American release, the Euro version of the Director's Cut is PS3-only.Speaking to the European PlayStation Blog, designer Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro talked about plans for a follow-up. "I'm in discussion with Tomio [Kanazawa, of Toybox Games] about the future of Deadly Premontion. It may not be Deadly Premonition 2 but it's definitely going to be something," he said. "At the moment we're talking about how it might be interesting to set the game in Europe."

The Q1 release window originally given to Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut has been narrowed down to March 2013. The open-world horror, action, mystery, etc. game will have "reworked" controls for its combat, a new scenario designed by creator SWERY, and will support additional downloadable content. It's also probably going to be really weird. While the above trailer doesn't show much of the actual game, it does assuage any fears you may have had that the new version wasn't going to be about a crazy person who talks to an invisible partner named Zach.

Immediately after ex-Marvelous CEO (and new Toybox Games founder) Yasuhiro Wada let slip news of a new Deadly Premonition PS3 project at GDC, he met with Joystiq for an interview and clarified just what it is. And it's not a sequel.Deadly Premonition is being "remastered" and updated for PS3, by a team headed by Swery65, working in concert with the two-man Toybox studio. The new version, which will be further detailed at E3, will include new content, including new "scenarios" -- and support for the PlayStation Move. We're sure the whole thing will make much more sense with motion controls.

During his GDC panel (ostensibly a Classic Game Postmortem on Harvest Moon), former Marvelous CEO Yasuhiro Wada casually revealed that he's working with Hidetaka "Swery65" Suehiro on a new Deadly Premonition project for PS3.The announcement was far too casual to include details -- like whether it's a sequel or some kind of update of the original (which came out on PS3 in Japan) -- but Wada said that a for-real announcement was possible at E3.

  • Swery considering new game, more Deadly Premonition projects

Deadly Premonition creator Hidetaka Suehiro, known as "Swery," is full of crazy ideas -- as anyone who played his weird, sprawling, Twin Peaks-inspired game will tell you. Some of the ideas currently occupying Swery's mind involve new games, and extensions of Deadly Premonition. "What I can say," the Access Games producer told Metro, "is that I'm making a storyline for a completely new game." As for Deadly Premonition, he's got "different types" of projects in mind. "Trying to think of ways to create a sequel, that's definitely on the table, trying to create a prequel is also definitely on the table; and also a project to have more people play Deadly Premonition." An easy guess as to the identity of that last project: bringing the PS3 version of the game, currently available in Japan, to the West. All of these projects, as Swery has noted before, will require money before he can take them on -- which might not be a problem anymore. Swery said that "A few publishers have contacted our company, after the success of Deadly Premonition, and we are now creating concepts for them - which is why there's so many things on the table right now. "
