Though they're not the two best-received titles on the Xbox Live Arcade platform, Polar Panic and 3-on-3 NHL Arcade seem like appropriate ways to ring in the new, blustery season. Appropriately enough, their prices have been cut in half for the current XBLM Deal of the Week.

Creepy-crawlies form the theme of this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week, with all the featured titles getting 50 percent off the asking price. There's quite a diversity of invertebrate offerings, including the turn-based mayhem of Worms 2: Armageddon, the strategic Band of Bugs, the fantastic platforming of Earthworm Jim HD and twitchy blasting in Centipede and Millipede. The last title is 200 MS points ($2.50), while the rest are 400 MSP ($5) each. The deals last until next Monday, December 6. Now, excuse us while we go look at adorable puppy videos for a little bit, because all this bug talk gave us the heebie-jeebies.

  • Xbox Live joins Black Friday spendathon with week of sales, starting tomorrow

If you can get past the ill-advised headline in Microsoft's announcement of a handful of Black Friday-timed sales -- "Xbox 360 Rings In The Holidays with Can't-Miss Black Friday Deals for Halo: Reach, Fable III and Xbox Live Marketplace" -- you'll find some hot deals on Xbox Live games, movies and DLC (which, as digital offerings, don't require you to be trampled to death by people shopping for cheap towels). Of the week-long "Black Friday" deals -- beginning tomorrow, November 23, through Monday, November 29 -- 'Splosion Man for two dang bucks (Friday only) is the clear standout. Other "samples" from the week of promotions include savings on additional XBLA games, like Portal and The Secret of Monkey Island; Xbox Originals Halo and GTA: San Andreas; and a few Zune movies. (Check out a list of currently-announced offers after the break.) Throughout the Thanksgiving week, Microsoft will post the deals on Xbox.com. Update: Peruse the complete list of week-long sales here. Oh! And don't forget: Microsoft is still hosting its ongoing, "regular" Xbox Live Deal of the Week, offering the Hasbro Family Game Night games for half-off ($5 each) today through Sunday.

Shank is a lot of fun because it lets you murder a lot of different people in a lot of different ways, and I think you should buy it. –Justin McElroy, Joystiq.com Had you taken our recommendation several months ago, you would likely have vented your most murderous fantasies -- many of which you never knew you had -- many times over by now; in which case, you should probably, peacefully move on to our next post. Had you, on the other hand, not been called to action by our priase of Shank, then perhaps this is the opportunity you've been waiting for: The Xbox Live Arcade version of the game has been discounted to 800 Microsoft Points ($10) -- down from $15 -- this week (through Sunday) for Xbox Live Gold members. If not the original price, then perhaps your apprehension was fixated on those icky bugs that had crawled out of the XBLA release. Well, those have been taken care of, too. Still not interested? Ohh, we get it now. All right, sit tight -- next week's Marketplace deal is the one for you.

Scott Pilgrim took on a lot in his battle for Ramona Flowers -- dudes, ladies, twins, Jason Schwartzman -- but he's yet to face one mighty foe: the ravages of time. He's combatting that very enemy this week, dropping his game's price on Xbox Live Marketplace from 800 MS Points ($10) to just 400 ($5) until Monday, November 15. Between this and Super Meat Boy's introductory price, you could have yourself a veritable smorgasbord of digitally distributed delights for just few dollars -- let's just hope you've got plenty of spare patience for each. And all this arrives just in time to catch some new DLC for each game? It's a Christmas miracle!

BioWare, it seems, wants to help out -- both Kasumi's Stolen Memory and Overlord DLC packs for Mass Effect 2 are dropping to $5 a pop (down form $7), as part of next week's XBLM deal. It may be called the "Deal of the Week," but in this case, we prefer calling it "The Obvious Purchase."

  • Xbox Live subscribers can vote for upcoming Deal of the Week

    09.21.2010

Microsoft has put an interesting turn on its weekly rotation of discounted items on Xbox Live -- the Spotlight tab on the console's dashboard currently includes a poll which will let users choose which of a handful of items they'd like to have marked down for an undisclosed week in October. These discounts include 33 percent off DeathSpank, half off Perfect Dark, or similar markdowns on DLC for Dragon Age: Origins, Trials HD and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It would be unethical for us to use our considerable internet power to get you to pick the thing that we'd like to pick up at a discounted price, so we'll refrain from doing so. Instead, we'll just have to rely on the same remote mind-control tactics we've been using to puppeteer your every action for the past four years now. That's right, Brandon, we're inside your mind.

What most people don't tell you about the fast lane is that it's quite expensive. It's not that the lane itself is paved in gold -- it's that the faster a car goes, the more money it seems to cost. Thankfully, video games allow us to experience this thrill at an affordable price, and this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week is all about joining the racing elite on the cheap. Five Forza Motorsport 3 DLC packs have each been discounted by 40 percent this week (through Sunday), bringing them down a mere $3 a piece.
