Digimon, digital monsters. Digimon are the CHAMPIONS! Digimon, digital monsters. Digimon are the ... Oh hello, we didn't hear you come in. We were too busy humming the Digimon theme song, something we do every time a new Digimon game gets announced. This time, it's Digimon All-Star Rumble, a multiplayer battle game that sees various virtual pets duke it out to determine who's the real champion. Super Smash Bros. may be the obvious comparison based on the trailer and screenshots, but we'd argue that All-Star Rumble has quite a few elements drawn from the Dreamcast fighting series Power Stone as well. Not much information regarding gameplay was given, but environments and movement are three-dimensional, and characters digi-volve mid-fight to become more powerful versions of themselves. How that balances out so that a cyborg wolf with jet wings doesn't mop the floor with an adorable kitten is something we won't discover until November 11, when Digimon All-Star Rumble comes to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. C'mon kids, those souls won't capture themselves! Soul Captor Online, the MMO that revolves around absorbing and reusing souls for noble purposes, boldly ventured into open beta as of today. To celebrate Soul Captor Online's open beta, the CM team is putting on a series of events. The first of these is an in-game anima hunt that will reward the winners with prizes. In addition to the four classes shown in the closed beta testing phase, Gamania has added two new classes for the open beta: the Celestial Master and Mystic Fighter. The Celestial Master is a strong support class that buffs teammates while debuffing the enemy, while the Mystic Fighter is a melee warrior who relies on evasion to keep the worst hits from landing. You can check out the introductory video for these classes after the jump. [Source: Gamania press release]

There's a new cel-shaded sheriff coming to town, and the only question is whether the place will be big enough for a contender this cute and cuddly. Gamania is trumpeting the upcoming arrival of Soul Captor Online, a free-to-play title that revolves around the acquisition and manipulation of monster souls. In Soul Captor Online, players will be accompianied by an Anima, a customized spirit creature that will help them in their journeys. When the player and Anima defeat a monster, the monster's soul can be sucked out to be used for buffs, enchantments, and even mounts. The revealed classes so far in Soul Captor are a diverse bunch: Warrior, Priest, Shaman, and of course, the Onmyoji (mage). There is a pair of unannounced classes hiding in the shadows as well. Currently, Soul Captor is accepting sign-ups for beta. Check out the tongue-in-cheek trailer after the jump and let us know what you think!

Joymax's Digimon Masters emerged from its beta cocoon, spread its wings, and flew into release today. Digimon Masters has been released worldwide and is currently only available in English. You can jump into the game through the Joymax portal. %Gallery-134643%

Imagine a world where World War II -- also known as "That War With All Them Movies" -- never ended. Imagine that while the conflict raged, weapons development continued to advance well into the 1950s. Now imagine that this war-ravaged landscape is your new virtual playground. Joymax, the studio behind Silkroad Online, revealed at GDC that its next MMO will take place in such a world. Code-named Karma Online, this massively multiplayer online first-person shooter will attempt to provide the ultimate PvP battleground for players sick of bows and arrows and futuristic plasma rifles. Karma Online seeks to meld the best of both RPGs and FPSs by introducing a skill tree system that allows soldiers to specialize in preferred weapons and tactics. Although we're not quite sure what Joymax means by this, the studio promises more immersion by requiring the use of both hands for combat instead of just the mouse. The game will also come with the popular Call of Duty-style zombie mode if you want to switch up player-killing for undead slaughter. The shooter is scheduled to go into closed beta this May. Hit the jump to see Karma Online in action and get the skinny on Joymax and WeMade Entertainment's other projects-in-progress! %Gallery-118470%

What an incredible expansion Chapter III: The Elder Kingdoms is turning out to be! In addition to the awesomeness of the new two-seated mounts and the new instance, Runes of Magic also received surprisingly large new gameplay features. Yes, I'm talking about the new pet system that seemed to be overshadowed during the advertising of The Warnorken Castle, but is no less exciting than Warnorken Arena, for which the patch was named. The pet system is so large in scope that it renewed the initial wonder and excitement I had when I first logged in to RoM and saw all the uniquely deep elements it began with. Finding, naming, and caring for pets is an entire game unto itself that bleeds into -- and feeds -- other aspects of RoM as well. It's Pokemon meets Digimon meets MMO, and it's delivered to you by the Easter Bunny. Hop past the jump to reveal all the inner workings of this awesome new system.

Tamers! The time to grab your Digimon and set off for adventure is upon us. The open beta for WeMade's Digimon Battle is set to open tonight at 5pm Pacific time for those who have signed up to try out this upcoming game. They're not just leaving it at that, though -- the plans are to celebrate the opening of Digimon Battle with a series of events called the Triple Play Event Bundle. The events will run from March 17th through April 7th, and offer a variety of things for players to try out as they level their Digimon up in this interesting new world. The first one is called "Mega Mission" and players who manage to digivolve (evolve, for non-Digimon fans) their companions to the Mega Stage will have a chance to win 500 WeCash, and in-game items like Gold Drills, Excalibur Swords and a week of Deva Aura. The second event is called "Check in and Cash In" which will reward players who log once per day (for 100% attendance) with an interesting-sounding Mysterious DigiEgg prize. The third and final event will offer something called the "DB Happy Hour" that will grant players a 30% experience buff for free when they log in on March 20th & 21st between 11AM and 2PM server time to help stress-test the servers. (That's Pacific time for those curious.)

Remember Digimon, the little digital pet that emerged during the Tamagotchi craze in the 90s? The fad faded, like they tend to do, but the Digimon franchise stuck around in the form of books, toys, a trading card game, and now an MMO. Yep. WeMade Entertainment launched a teaser site and trailer video for Digimon Battle yesterday. Both are short on details, but open beta registration details are promised "soon", and the company has jumped into the social media arena with both feet. There are updates a-plenty on their Twitter page, announcements and links on their Facebook page, artwork on the teaser site, and the aforementioned brand new teaser trailer. WeMade has stated that they are planning to release the game in March, so the expected open beta will be brief, and presumably soon. We'll keep an eye out for details, and in the meantime check after the jump for the trailer.

April Fools.I like it and I don't.It can sometimes be hard to distinguish between real news and fake news, especially with some of the elaborate schemes people do in order to make the fake stuff seem as real as possible. And there's a lot of it too. Google and Blizzard win the day, as usual. C.A.D.I.E anyone? The page is a throwback to the 1990s Geocities pages many of us made back then. My Geocities site had to do with Star Trek and lots of other nerdy stuff, although someone on staff had a Digimon site (I'm not telling who...).After the break you can check out our list of all the April Fools jokes that went on yesterday that pertained to WoW. And for posterity's sake we've taken as many snapshots of the pages as we could and put them in a nice gallery so 10 years from now we can all look back and go "Aww... isn't that... /facepalm."%Gallery-49097%

Today is a very happy day for us here at DS Fanboy. We had no idea that pandas on see-saws would be making their way to our country. Back when we saw the scans showing the Japanese game, we thought it was much too quirky and original to be released over here. Oh how glad we are to be wrong. So, what is the game, exactly? National Geographic Panda and it will release this fall. The game has you interacting with panda bears at Panda Park. Mistreating the bears will cause them to leave your park, whereas nurturing them and making sure they're having fun means new pandas will come to your park and stay. Sounds great to us!The other game Namco announced in the press release we received is Digimon World Championship. The new game will feature over 200 kinds of Digimon and will feature Wi-Fi support for battling online. Those of you familiar with the Digimon series of games should know what to expect here. No word on a release window for the game.Check out our galleries below for screenshots of both these games.%Gallery-20748%%Gallery-20750%[Via press release]

  • Digimon MMO Coming to North America

It may have been a few years since you heard the catchy theme to the Digimon television show. You may not even accurately recall this Pokemon-esque animation/manga/toy/game empire. But the digi-pets are still out there, and soon they'll be returning to the shores of North America in the form of a pair of Massively Multiplayer Online Games. It's worth noting a few things about the publisher for these games. CDC games is one of an increasing number of companies bridging the online worlds of the East and West. They've brought several popular games from China and Korea here to the states, and are the Eastern publisher for games like Turbine's Lord of the Rings Online. The games, Digimon RPG and Digimon RPG2, are pretty much exactly what you'd expect. You take on the role of a Digimon trainer, starting out with a low-level unevolved critter. Your task throughout the game is to tame, train, and evolve your digital pets through combat and conflict. It's a turn-based title, and from the sounds of things still has a fairly active community some five years after the title's release. The wikipedia article (take with a grain of salt) also notes that there is already an active English-playing community on the Korean servers. One would assume, then, that perhaps there's an audience ready for this here in the states? The games are slated for launch in North America later this year.[Via Kotaku]

NeoGAF's wonderful neo2046 has extracted all of the delicious DS essence from within the pages of the latest V-Jump. Thanks to his largesse, we can gawk at some new images of upcoming Japanese games, including both Square Enix remakes of fourth entries in famous RPG series. In addition to Dragon Quest IV and Final Fantasy IV (above) you'll find Tales of Innocence, Bleach: The 3rd Phantom, which stubbornly continues not to be a Treasure fighting game, and Digimon Championship 2008. Enjoy looking at some incomprehensible magazine pages! And check out the Bleach game in particular, since this is the first good look we've had.

With this new pair of trailers for Digimon World Dawn and Dusk, we're sensing a strong pro-day, anti-night vibe. The Dawn trailer seems much more interesting and offers more information, while the Dusk video is rather perfunctory. "There's some Digimon! Stuff happens! You want it!" The monster above knows it, too. He senses the contempt for all things evening, and it displeases him. Don't believe us? See for yourself after the jump.
