Today the founder of Arkane Studios, Raf Colantonio, announced that after 18 years with the company, he is now stepping down. In a statement Colantonio said, "It is time for me to step out to spend some time with my son and reflect on what is important to me and my future."

It's common to see big game studios offer free multiplayer weekends in a bid to reel you in, but you don't see that quite so often for single-player titles. You either have to trust reviews or go in blind. Bethesda is offering an olive branch in the case of Dishonored 2, at least: the publisher is offering a free three-mission trial of the stealth action title on April 6th. PC, PS4 and Xbox One owners can all participate, and any progress you make as part of the trial will carry over to the full game if you decide to buy.

  • The best games of 2016

The year is nearly over, and I don't think I'm alone in saying that I'm ready to leave behind the dark, twisted fantasy that is 2016. No matter your political persuasion, social status or country of residence, you'll have felt disquieted by events at some point this year. The sheer scale of 2016's failings allows for such blanket statements. Natural disasters, mass shootings and political events have left me buffeted by wave after wave of anxiety. Because of this never-ending cycle of unease, video games have been more important to me this year. Of course, they're always a form of escapism, but in 2016 they've had to function as a kind of digital cocoon. Gaming has been a place to retreat. A moment of respite. Whether passing the minutes on a mindless clicker or puzzle game, losing myself for hours in grand strategies and sport sims or taking a long weekend to head out on a fantastic adventure, gaming has helped me. A lot. Perhaps that's why I've been reacting to game delays with all the composure of a YouTube commenter. And, God, the delays have come thick and fast.

  • 'Dishonored 2' has a good reason to play its New Game Plus mode

If, like me, you're already deep into the intricate world of Dishonored 2, be prepared to keep playing for a while. Bethesda just revealed that the title's first free update will include a "New Game Plus" mode, which will give you full access to the skills from its two heroes, Emily and Corvo. Up until now, each character could only use abilities within their specific skill trees. In a New Game Plus playthrough, which is unlocked after beating the game, you'll be able to use Emily's "Mesmerize" to stun an enemy and then follow it up with Corvo's ability to summon man-eating rats. You know, as one does in the Empire of the Isles.

Each year that Geoff Keighley's Game Awards distances itself from its SpikeTV past, it gets subsequently less embarrassing to watch. And without a doubt, The Game Awards 2016 was the best show yet. Couldn't watch the stream? Well, that's too bad, but we've got you covered. Below you'll find a list of the night's big winners in addition to all the trailers that made their world premieres onstage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. There were a few emotional moments onstage as well, including Ryan Green accepting the Games for Impact award for That Dragon, Cancer; Keighley presenting his friend Hideo Kojima with a statue for Industry Icon and Nolan North throwing striking voice actors under the bus during his acceptance speech for best performance.

It's been a long time coming, but Dishonored 2 is almost here -- the game arrives this Friday. We've gotten our fair share of glimpses of the game recently, but today developer Bethesda dropped an official launch trailer to get excited players as hyped as possible. Sure, it's no live-action trailer like we saw earlier this year, but there's a lot to like here, particularly if you were a fan of the first game in the series.

  • 'Dishonored 2's' live-action trailer is all about glorious revenge

Just as we saw with Fallout 4 last year, Bethesda is hoping to amp you up for Dishonored 2 by making it seem more real with a live-action trailer. The two-minute piece is narrated by Emily, the kidnapped princess you rescued in the first game, who lays out her drive for revenge like Game of Throne's Arya Stark. They killed her mother; took her kingdom; and framed her friend (Corvo, the bodyguard assassin who returns for another round of fun) for murder. Now she's back to take what's hers.

The original Dishonored was all about choice. Corvo had a mission, but how he completed it was up to you. Battle the guards head on? Slow down time and quietly sneak past them? Or lurk in the shadows and summon a swarm of bloodthirsty rats? Dishonored 2, which comes out on November 11th, looks to offer a similar, if not greater level of freedom through its twin protagonists Corvo and Emily. To showcase the game's impressive flexibility, Bethesda has put together a "Creative Kills" video which teases some new powers and how they can be combined to devastating effect.

Bethesda's big E3 show is over, and it was pretty great. We got a new Quake, lots of Fallout goodness (including Fallout 4 in VR!), a first look at the upcoming Prey reboot and a ton of detail on Dishonored 2. Oh... and a Skyrim remaster. While our very own Tim Seppala and Jessica Condit run like excited children towards that Fallout VR demo, you can check out all of the trailers from the press conference below.

Finally, Bethesda gave us a real look at how Dishonored 2 will play. With a now grown-up Emily Kaldwin, players will get a chance to play as both her and the last game's protagonist, Corvo. Aside from gameplay changes, it will also offer different shades of the story depending on who you play with. But that's just the start. The game has really cranked up the detail of the world, aiming to better convey the backstory and fiction that also embodied the first game. To that end, it's got a new game engine as well: The Void engine. (It's a Dishonored thing.) And then there's the new power set.

  • E3's video game art picks include 'No Man's Sky' and 'Witcher 3'

The Into the Pixel jury has chosen the 2016 winners for its E3 art collection, and it's clearer than ever that video games can inspire artwork you'd be proud to hang on your wall. The 14 selections are mostly from titles where visuals not only play an important role, but set the tone for the entire game -- the sci-fi novel look of No Man's Sky gets its due, as does The Witcher 3's brooding fantasy atmosphere and Unravel's miniature world. There's even art from a virtual reality game (Insomniac's Edge of Nowhere) breaking some ground. Most of these pieces are concept art or models rather than what you'd see while playing, but they're worth a look if you've ever felt that game art is just as creative and thought-provoking as what you'd find in a gallery.

Dishonored 2 will launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 11th, giving fans another taste of supernatural assassination. The sequel was first unveiled at Bethesda's E3 press conference last year, along with a tentative "Spring 2016" release window. Clearly, that date hasn't panned out. Little is known about the game, other than it's set in the city of Karnaca and features two playable characters -- Dishonored hero Corvo Attano and Empress Emily Kaldwin. As before, you'll be able to choose how you tackle each foe, focusing on stealth or a more 'guns blazing' approach.

We've barely begun E3 2015 and the award for "worst kept secret of the show" might go to Dishonored 2. Regardless, Bethesda and developer Arkane Studios made it internet official tonight at their media briefing and announced that there are two playable characters (including Corvo from the first game) and a few other bits. A release date wasn't announced, but a fancied-up version of the first Dishonored hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this August. You now, so you can get caught up on the story so far. For a peek at Dishonored 2, check out the trailer below.
