Yes, another set of Amazon game deals today
Amazon refuses to stop tempting us with awesome deals, hosting an all-video-game Gold Box today -- including some popular discounts that came over the crazy weekend, revisited. The deal of the day is Just Dance 2 for $25.99, representing the perfect opportunity for you to pick it up as a gift for someone else. (Yeah, that's the ticket!) Lightning deals include Plants vs. Zombies for $13.99 on Xbox 360, and several deals that have yet to be named specifically. We've got "guesses" after the break courtesy of Thrifty Nerd. We say "guesses" because, as repeat deals, it's not too hard to figure them out. Likely highlights include discounts on the DSi XL, PS3, and Vanquish. Disney Interactive reports increased revenue, $55 million loss
Disney has posted earnings for its second fiscal quarter ended April 3, 2010, and there's good news and bad news. The good news is that revenues are up in its Interactive Media segment (which houses Disney Interactive Studios). Specifically, Interactive Media revenues are at $155 million, up from $129 million in the same period last year, a 20 percent increase. The bad news: the Interactive Media segment still reports a loss of $55 million, though that loss is an improvement over the $61 million loss reported during the same quarter last year. Disney pins the improvement on growing Club Penguin subscription revenues as well as "lower video game inventory costs." The company added that gains were offset by "higher internet product development and sales and marketing costs." The report makes little note of Disney Interactive's prospects for the rest of the year, though the publisher has more than a few big projects on the horizon. Split/Second is only a week away, while Toy Story 3, Disney Sing It: Family Hits, Disney Guilty Party, a new Pirates of the Caribbean and Disney Epic Mickey are all on the horizon this year. And let's not forget Marvel -- which Disney owns -- has a title or two on the way, as well.
Disney Sing It: Family Hits -- finally, the right idea for a Disney singing game
Did you realize that the Disney Sing It franchise was now in its fifth iteration? We didn't realize it had been that prolific, but then, we don't always keep up with the Hannah Montanas and High School Musicals and other recent Disney Channel fare. However, the latest version of the karaoke game, due this summer for Wii and PS3, might be enough to turn the franchise from an unknown quantity to a guilty pleasure -- even if it's a pleasure so guilty that most of us wouldn't mention it. Disney Sing It: Family Hits is a collection of songs from Disney films like Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins, and Toy Story. It's designed with big gatherings in mind, with a "Family Mode" for passing the mic between up to 8 players. And if you're not ready to take on the classics, it also includes some vocal instruction and exercises led by The Princess and the Frog's Anika Noni Rose. Admit it: you started humming some Disney movie tune the second you learned what the game was about.
Shipping this week: indecision edition
Oh boy. Not only are there eight new games hitting the Xbox 360 this weeks (and Portal on XBLA, lest we forget), but several of them look to be good games. Heavy hitters like Far Cry 2 and Fable II undoubtedly top the list, but there are some other big names in there as well.
