The Korean music game, DJ Max Portable, is truly an incredible sensation. A concert was held to celebrate the game's wild success, and it appears the crowd had an incredible time. DJ Max Portable DS spotted in the wiki
Update: As expected, the Wikipedia entry has been removed. The short life of the exceedingly dubious DJ Max Portable DS is over, suffering from a fatal "speedy deletion," and with it, our hopes of getting a North American DJ Max release, regardless of console!A new Wikipedia entry (marked for "speedy deletion") appears to contain details about a DS version of DJ Max Portable, South Korean developer Pentavision's Beatmania-like rhythm action game. While the entry claims to have culled its info from an announcement posted on the Pentavision website (reproduced on Wikipedia), a quick trip to the company page led to a dead end, as did an email to the address listed there. According to Wikipedia, DS's DJ Max will be nearly identical to the pair of existing PSP titles, which have enjoyed a cult following among importers with dainty fingers. The entirely suspect image accompanying the entry suggests that the DS version will contain an "Online Battle" mode, which is a key component of Pentavision's PC MMO DJMAX, from which the handheld series is descended. Neither the PSP original nor its sequel includes such a mode.DJ Max Portable DS is purportedly scheduled for release (in Korea) this September and would include an English-language option. "We think that the Nintendo console will bring the game to more players, because the Nintendo handheld has more sales than the PSP," declares a reported translation of the announcement. Sounds like flamebait, not a press release.
It's not a dream, DJ Max turns into a "live miracle"
American gamers may be destroying their PSPs in frustration over DJ Max Portable 2, but Korean gamers are absolutely bonkers for the music title. A live concert called "Live Miracle" will take advantage of the growing popularity of the game, and give fans the rare opportunity to hear their favorite songs from the game performed live. PSA: DJ Max demo killed PSP
Did you know that DJ Portable Max 2 is one of the leading killers of PSPs in the country? Actually, it isn't. But, one PlayStation forum user became so frustrated at the incredible challenge provided by the music game's demo, that he threw the system in frustration. While it's ultimately his fault, one can't help but sympathize with him, at least a tiny bit. That game is really hard, as can be seen by the outrage in the demo's comment section:"god damn this is flipping hard, i can barely get past the first 30-40 seconds... Ahh! how do you do this?!" - Benny"THE DEMO IS STUPIDLY HARD AND ITS NOT WORTH IT" - Jack"I still game over in about 10 seconds" - DazIf only we all could be as good as Joystiq's Jared Rea.
Power Rangers-esque heroes promote DJ Max
Insert your own hilarious caption here! Aren't promotions supposed to entice buyers? This recent Korean promotion of DJ Max Portable 2 features people dressed up in Power Rangers-esque outfits, begging onlookers to purchase the newest Korean music sensation. I don't know about you, but the very sight would have me running away in terror, shivering in a corner somewhere. DJ Max 2 hitting stores outside of Korea
No, it's not coming to the US ... not yet anyway. PSP-Vault is reporting that DJ Max Portable 2 is getting a Japan-only limited edition. This being the first time the series has come out outside of Korea leads PSP-Vault to think a US version may be on the way as well. Especially given the fact that the game was shown at GDC and that it already has an English setting. The Japanese limited edition is similar to the one released in Korea and if you missed out on that version and don't want to take the chance in case it never comes to the US, you may want to order now.
DJ MAX limited edition sells out in minutes
Much to the surprise of many a hardcore gamer, DJ Max Portable 2 was playable at the GDC show floor last week. A representative was impressed by Jared's incredible skill at the game, and made note that he'd be interested in special edition of the game, which includes a three disc soundtrack, postcards, and a few other goodies.Too bad they were sold out in minutes when it became available for pre-order in Korea. Even employees from Sony were unable to secure one of the 2,000 copies manufactured. Importers interested in finding this truly limited edition will have to look on eBay for undoubtedly marked-up copies.
GDC 07: DJ Max Portable 2 impressions
Joystiq's Jared Rea loves the Korean import music game DJ Max Portable, calling it "the best handheld game ever". We were both colored quite surprised when we found the game on the GDC show floor: was it a confirmation of an impending US release? Certainly, the gameplay is accessible, regardless of language. Heck, the game has always been in English. A Sony representative wasn't able to confirm a US release, saying they simply "haven't announced anything yet." Watch this video of Jared's expert play. I have to say I was quite impressed, as were the dozens of people that stopped behind us to watch. DJ Max Portable will be available for importers by the end of the month. DJ Max Portable 2 announced
Some of you have figured out that I like music games... a lot. So, when Ruliweb reports that import-favorite DJ Max Portable is getting a sequel, I have no choice but to pass it on to all of you. The sequel ups the ante by introducing one more gameplay mode, and by expanding the soundtrack to 150 songs. Wow. The PSP is no stranger to some excellent music games. Unfortunately for us English-speaking blokes, these games rarely get translated into a language that we can read. Ruliweb has discovered a new version of the Beatmania-clone DJ Max Portable. The International Edition of the game features English language text and one new song that can't be found in the original ("River Flow" by Planetboom).No hardcore PSP fan will be caught without DJ Max Portable. With PaRappa the Rapper and Lumines II coming in the coming months, the PSP will become one of the best systems for music games.

DS Fanboy discovered a great list of the top 10 handheld imports from Modojo. While the list features many DS and GBA games, the PSP also shows up a surprising number of times.10. Tokimeki Memorial: Forever With YouPart of the huge dating game sim genre in Japan, this game has you trying to improve your sex appeal. If you're good enough, you might get lucky. Don't expect any naughty bits in this game though. That's for some other games.7. Taiko no Tatsujin PortableTaiko Drum Master was released on the PS2 to some fanfare, and the PSP version is essentially a remake... without the drums. While it seems like a lot of the appeal disappears without Drumcon, the soundtrack's happy J-Pop and Katamari Damacy tunes make this a hit for importers.2. DJ Max PortableCalled "the single best game on the PSP" by the folks at Modojo, and for good reason too. Essentially Beatmania squeezed into handheld form, the game has you furiously mashing the PSP's buttons to the beat of the music. Harder difficulties apparently make you seem "less of a man."
