Freaks and Geeks sees new life as interactive YouTube game
A game-ified version of NBC's 1999 teen drama, Freaks and Geeks, is now available on YouTube, courtesy of The Fine Bros and Doctor Octoroc. The game plays out automatically as it follows a loose interpretation of the show's plot, but key decisions are left to players, with each choice leading to a new video. This first game tackles the "freaks" half of the show, while a later expansion will explore life as a geek at William McKinley High School during the neon and synthesizer-infused 80s. Even if you're not familiar with Freaks and Geeks, you probably recognize some of the stars whose careers it helped launch, including Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and James Franco. They're like, famous and stuff.
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog recreated in 8-bit style
We couldn't be more excited about the 8-bit recreation of Joss Whedon's mini-masterpiece Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog by Doctor Octoroc (whom you may remember from his 8-Bit Jesus). For one, it's adorable, as you can see on his official site or in the video we've placed after the jump. For another, it gives us the chance to finally write about Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, just a couple of years after everybody else. ... So, umm, did you guys see that Dr. Horrible yet? Also, while we're at it, what's up with those Yatta guys?
The Best Thing You'll Hear Today: 8-Bit Jesus
It may not be able to transform water into health potions, but 8-Bit Jesus does deliver on the best (only?) yuletide chip-set tunes blending holiday favorites with classic game themes to ever caress our eardrums. We're partial to "Super Jingle Bros." ourselves, but there's not a throwaway track among them.Doctor Octoroc, the artist behind the collection, is giving away nine-tracks from the album for free. Give them a listen and see if they don't make your holiday just a bit brighter, or at least a bit nerdier.[Via PushingPlay]
