Since dolphins are pretty much the coolest thing on the planet (Japanese horror show notwithstanding), we are excited about the latest dolphin intelligence findings.

Indie developer Sunken Places recently launched a Kickstarter project for Classroom Aquatic. The PC, Mac and Linux game uses, but does not require, the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. In it, players assume the role of an exchange student that is completely unprepared for an exam in a classroom full of dolphins. In order to pass the test, players need to sneak glances at their neighbors' answer sheets without being caught by both the finned students and the teacher. A demo version of Classroom Aquatic is currently available on the developer's official website. It is seeking $30,000 by March 5 to fund the full version, which will feature multiple languages, and more classrooms and mechanics than the demo has to offer.

Say what you will about the glacial pace of ArcheAge's western localization, but one thing you can't say is that XLGAMES' sandpark title is lacking in the interesting features department. Dolphins have their own skills and abilities, and players are able to ride them both on the surface of the ocean and under it. XLGAMES has previously shown off ArcheAge's extensive underwater environments and gameplay.

  • You're the Pundit: Do smartphone owners really want a bigger display?

When it comes to evaluating the next big thing, we turn to our secret weapon: the TUAW braintrust. We put the question to you and let you have your go at it. Today's topic is smartphones. When it comes to display size, is bigger really better? Recently, a number of manufacturers have produced touch-based smart phones roughly the size of baby dolphins. At 5.3" the Galaxy note makes the iPhone look like a wee little girly man in comparison. Is the iPhone a sad shrunken remnant of outdated smartphones? Or are the new jumbo-sized units on the market our new pumped-up smartphone overlords? Sure, size matters -- but in which direction? You tell us. Place your vote in this poll and then join in the comments with all your analysis. %Poll-74429%

  • FanVision handheld makes NFL nosebleeds far more bearable

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has just made public his own Kangaroo TV operations, but the end product is something far different than just in-stadium televisions. The FanVision handheld (shown above) has been reportedly shopped to every single NFL team, but only a dozen of 'em decided to take Mr. Ross up on his offer (along with the University of Michigan, curiously enough). Essentially, this here handheld works only while within the stadium, enabling fans to view instant replays from multiple angles, out of town games, real-time stats from around the league, NFL Red Zone, live fantasy football updates, on-demand video from your home team, a cheerleader cam (yeah, seriously), highlight reel of the game and the actual network telecast of the event that you're at. 'Course, this type of fan customization isn't exactly new -- the Mariners have been offering something similar to Nintendo DS owners for awhile now -- but given the high absurd price of front row seats, we'll take any extra angles we can get. FanVision will be available within the stadiums of the signed-on teams (listed after the break) for $199 without any activation or recurring fees, though the MSRP is tagged at $259. Sure beats paying for PSLs, huh?

Last year, Starfish released a game called I Love Dolphin, which we affectionately dubbed Nintendolphins. Now, Starfish is revisiting its dolphin love by coming out with Long Vacation: Iruka to Watashi (i.e. Long Vacation: Dolphin and Me) this August. Although the title isn't an official sequel (perhaps Starfish didn't want to call the game I Still Love Dolphin), the gameplay is essentially the same. You play with the porpoise-like creatures, explore the ocean, and let's not forget about those minigames. Now we only have to wait for Ubisoft to copy the idea and come out with Petz: Dolphinz. Oh, wait ...[Via Siliconera]

  • Dolphin Stadium 720p HDTV (worlds largest) unveiled

A while back we told you the Miami Dolphins were building the largest high definition television in the world,  They showed it off yesterday for the season ticket holders and now we have video. Even in this relatively low resolution video you can see the incredible clarity and detail present in the 720p LED screen. Although having high definition at the game may seem like overkill, we're sure many of you are buying Dolphins' tickets right now and with good reason. There are actually two of the screens, as you'll notice in the video, both high definition but one is bigger at a stunning 1750 inches. Is Dolphin Stadium going to be the first one where fans buy tickets for a better view of the big screen? Allow stadium jealousy for every other NFL team to begin now.[Via digg & IseWise thanks for the tip!]
