  • Ubisoft's action-driving MMO The Crew launches today

    Ubisoft's "action-driving MMO" The Crew launches worldwide on PC and multiple consoles today, but before you can drive your roadster across a virtual map of the USA, you'll first have to download the time-honored day-one patch. The patch flips on drivehub challenges and the faction war as well as fixes a slew of UI, PvP, and stability bugs. Ubisoft's Serkan Hasan assured reporters last week that game would be free of the turmoil that usually accompanies MMO launches. The studio had taken criticism from refusing to grant launch previews to media because MMOs are just too hard to review without all the players in place. The standard version of the game is available for around 60 bucks, depending on your platform and retailer of choice. The launch trailer is below.

    The latest trailer for The Crew might blow your mind. It turns out the game will feature cars. And driving. And... all right, maybe it's all stuff that you've known about if you've followed the game with any sort of enthusiasm up to this point. But it's still a glimpse into how the game will play beyond its cross-country driving. The trailer shows off a great deal of both driving mechanics and interface pieces, giving potential players a clearer picture of what the game will look like in play as well as how the game is meant to be played. If you like the idea of hooking up with other drivers and hitting the road to explore, race, and take out targets, catch a glimpse of the gameplay just past the break.

  • Need for Speed World celebrates its second anniversary

    It seems like only a scant few months have passed since we covered the launch of Need for Speed World, EA's street racing MMO. But NFSW celebrates its second anniversary today, kicking it off with a double XP boost for everyone as well as a free Chevy Camaro ZL1 for all registered players. In honor of the occasion, the dev team invited us to a group interview session culminating in a race-off during which we got to show just how hot (or not) our racing skills were. Lead Producer Marc de Vellis and Lead Designer Melvin Teo were on hand to answer our questions and talk about how the game has grown over the past two years. They enthusiastically discussed the ways they've developed NFSW as a result of community feedback, both in terms of game features and in terms of community interaction. Read on for a look at what changes they've made to keep their virtual drivers coming back for another lap.

  • Eutechnyx announces plan to drive forward with Auto Club Revolution

    There are some games that seem like they just beg to be made into an MMO. The concept of the Gran Turismo series, for instance -- a game where you could purchase and drive almost any car, from a high-performance race machine to a tiny Japanese cargo truck. While there are no indications that the venerable franchise is going to head into the crowded world of full-scale MMOs, developer Eutechnyx, maker of the recent Ferrari Challenge and Supercar Challenge among others, has recently announced that they intend to work on a driving MMO allowing you to take out all manner of licensed cars. Titled Auto Club Revolution, the game is slated to be free-to-play by North American operations director Todd Eckert. The intention is to allow a variety of licensed cars to be driven by players, although which cars will be available will depend on which manufacturers allow it. The company seems to be primed to use the same general development tools from their earlier offerings, meaning that the actual racing engine will be thoroughly tested. Only time will tell how far down the road the game will get, although we can only hope for a game wherein a Yugo and a first-generation Saga can race to the finish.
