In an interview with 2P.com, Director Duncan Jones said that there are no current plans for a Warcraft movie sequel, but he's open to the possibility if 2016's film does well: "Hopefully, if I have done my job right, people will want to know and see more! There is certainly plenty more to tell!" Jones discussed how the movie will focus on the tragic first contact between Orcs and Humans, with heroes on both sides. "I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about Warcraft," he said. "It was important that some of our characters would be seeing the world fresh as well, and that the audience could see the situation through their eyes." When asked about the possibility of a cross-promotional effort between World of Warcraft and the movie, Jones said that there are "many ideas" on the table right now but offered up no specifics.

The cast list and associated characters for the upcoming Warcraft film from Legendary Pictures has been revealed by director Duncan Jones and Blizzard SVP of Story and Franchise Development, Chris Metzen. As part of a BlizzCon 2014 panel, the two men - joined by cast and crew from the film - discussed who would be wearing whose set of armor. Legendary and Blizzard are aiming to keep excitement high however, and fans can now follow news updates via FightForTheHorde.com and FightForTheAlliance.com. Legendary also released two promo shots of heroes King Llane and Orgrim, which you can check out after the break:

With San Diego Comic Con in full swing, people are starting to get to see previews and hear details about upcoming projects, and one of those projects is director Duncan Jones' Warcraft movie. During the Legendary Pictures panel, details were released about the movie (coming March 2016) and here's what our sources have to say about it. We're looking at an origin story, one that details how the First War got started. Durotan is the orc focus character, while Anduin Lothar plays this role for the humans of Azeroth. Duncan Jones, the director of the film, says he wants the movie to be accessible for everyone and that it's been fantastic working with Blizzard. The teaser trailer "Looks just like the game. Amazing. Stormwind and throne room looks exact (like that tiny glimpse we saw in an earlier photo.) Armor, gryphons, orcs in full cgi that look just like game trailers." The teaser trailer varies between the human and orc perspectives. We're told that there is a blend between CGI and live effects in the trailer and that it looks natural and clean. For now the teaser seems to only be available to view at SDCC, but if it goes up online we'll be sure to give it to you as soon as we can. This is a post in progress

  • Warcraft movie props look ready for battle at Comic-Con

While we have yet to see any footage and only have the scantest of details regarding the Warcraft movie and its plot, San Diego Comic-Con has afforded us an opportunity to glimpse once more into the world director Duncan Jones (Moon) is creating. First up: a new logo. It's quite a bit different than the game's version, with a new font that's much cleaner-cut and less bulky. It also trades the game's golden hue for a split that's half steel-blue, half scorched black. Second, Legendary has also revealed several of the movie's props, including an Alliance shield and the Horde's Doomhammer. You can check them out after the break. The Doomhammer has a long and storied history within the Warcraft universe, so its inclusion in the film hints at the potential appearance of several major characters. We won't spoil which ones here, but feel free to read up on the Doomhammer Wiki entry if you want to know more. While filming is reported to be complete, the Warcraft movie won't cross swords - or hammers - until March of 2016.

It's that time of year again - the San Diego Comic Con is in full swing, and with it, news about the upcoming Warcraft movie directed by Duncan Jones. While we still have to wait for Legendary's panel on Saturday for any really juicy details, we do now have the logo for the movie (seen above) and pictures of the Doomhammer and a Stormwind-themed sword and shield set. I admit, I'm not much for movies adapting game properties, but that's one heck of a Doomhammer, and the Stormwind sword/shield set - I'd like those in game. Considering Travis Fimmel's in this thing and we know Ben Foster is playing Medivh in it, I'm hopeful we'll get to see Anduin Lothar up in this. Thanks to Craig Everson for the tip

We've known for almost half a year now some of the names attached to the Warcraft movie directed by Duncan Jones, but we haven't known who the actors would be playing. However, actor Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma, X-Men: The Last Stand) recently revealed to IGN that he will be playing the role of Medivh when the film hits theaters in 2016. "He came up in a time protecting an area, and the way he protected this area was through magic," Foster said. "As peace returned to this land he took a break. He hung up his staff, so to speak, or let his guns get dusty. We meet him as his friends are returning asking for his help in a battle." We won't spoil how closely that does - or doesn't - fit with the established Warcraft lore, but you can always read up on the character if you like. Warcraft has already finished filming, but will require extensive post-production work due to the movie's use of CG characters. Foster himself seemed impressed with the work done so far. "The way that they're pushing motion-capture - I just saw some of the test footage - it's unlike anything I've ever seen," he said. "It's performance-capture. It pushes it to the next level. It's going to be one hell of a 3D event." [Image: Blizzard]

  • Ben Foster playing Medivh in Warcraft movie

IGN spoke with actor Ben Foster about his role in the upcoming Warcraft film, and Foster revealed that he's playing none other than Medivh, the last Guardian of Tirisfal, opener of the Dark Portal, and later savior of the world. From the interview, it seems as though the story for the film -- which has never really been properly revealed -- may be a little more clear. According to Foster, "He came up in a time protecting an area, and the way he protected this area was through magic. As peace returned to this land he took a break. He hung up his staff, so to speak, or let his guns get dusty. We meet him as his friends are returning asking for his help in a battle." If Medivh's friends are asking for help regarding a certain portal to another world, we could be looking at a modified retelling of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, one created with a proper cinematic twist. It would certainly be a nice counterpoint to Warlords of Draenor, which is sending players to explore an alternate version of Draenor. Needless to say, Medivh's confirmed appearance, and confirmed actor in the film are a nice surprise -- head to IGN for more from Foster and his role in the Warcraft movie, hitting theaters in 2016.

Director Duncan Jones says that's a wrap on his World of Warcraft film adaptation. "Final day on Warcraft now officially... wrapped," he tweeted. "Off to bed for three hours before a meeting in the AM. Good night/ good morning Twitter!" The movie is expected in March of 2016. Its cast includes Vikings' Travis Fimmel and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol's Paula Patton.

Though it won't hit theaters until March of 2016, director (and David Bowie progeny) Duncan Jones has announced that filming on the World of Warcraft movie adaptation is now complete. "Final day on Warcraft now officially... wrapped!! Off to bed for 3 hours before a meeting in the AM. Goodnight/good morning twitter!" Jones tweeted, before being showered in congratulations from his various followers and electronic hangers on. Scant plot information is available, suffice to say Warcraft focuses on the eternal struggle between Azeroth's human-led Alliance races and the Horde, a noble yet overtly aggressive group consisting of orcs, trolls, tauren and the like. Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) and Travis Fimmel (Vikings) reportedly headline the film's cast. [Image: Blizzard]

A little over four months after it began, and filming for the Warcraft movie has officially wrapped, according to a tweet made by Director Duncan Jones yesterday. Of course this is really just the beginning, as the film is slated for an incredibly long bout -- 20 months or so -- of post production, in which visual effects will be added and the film fine-tuned. The release date is still set for March 11, 2016, so they have plenty of time to get it polished. Final day on Warcraft now officially... wrapped!! Off to bed for 3 hours before a meeting in the AM. Goodnight/good morning twitter!- Duncan Jones (@ManMadeMoon) May 23, 2014 With filming coming to a close, one has to wonder if we'll be seeing trailers or footage any time soon. Comic-Con International will be hitting San Diego in late July, and given that last year's convention saw some teaser footage before filming even began, it seems like more footage this year is a distinct possibility. And we'd be silly to think that this year's BlizzCon won't contain at least one panel regarding the film. I have to say, given exactly how long people have been talking about the possibility of a Warcraft film, it seems a little surreal that one actually exists now. Are you looking forward to seeing the finished product?

In an interview with Crave Online, Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull was asked about the upcoming Warcraft movie, which has already finished shooting but will not be released until 2016. Part of the reason for this long period of post-production is apparently technical. We wanted to make sure that we got that right, but there are some sequences and some things that Duncan Jones has done that are truly on the cutting edge. You want to have plenty of time to make sure that we dial those in. So by the time they get home and set up, it'll be a little less than two years. It'll be about 20 months but we really want to take our time and get this right because the technology that's employed really is some next generation stuff. Tull also mentioned that the Warcraft movie will have a more linear plot than, say Moon but that it's still a Duncan Jones movie. (If you've seen Moon you'll get what that means. If not, go see Moon.) Besides the Warcraft movie, there are details on what else Legendary is working on, so head on over if you're in the mood for movie details.

On Twitter, Warcraft movie director Duncan Jones reports that filming -- which started in January -- is about to come to an end. For those counting down with me, we're done shooting Warcraft in 3 weeks as of tomorrow! Holy shnikey... - Duncan Jones (@ManMadeMoon) May 1, 2014 Of course, filming finishing doesn't mean that we're going to be seeing the magic of Warcraft in theaters any time soon -- the release date stands at March 11, 2016. However, with filming completing in three weeks, maybe we'll finally start to see some more images or info -- come on, Blizzard, would a preview trailer be too much to ask?

It's not so much of a first look as it is a first glimpse, but the latest issue of Empire brings us the first photo from the Warcraft film set. Focusing on director Duncan Jones watching the filming, the photo doesn't give us much info on what we can expect, but the monitors do give us a tantalizing first look of the Stormwind throne room -- and if this is anything like what the finished product will look like, it's very reminiscent of World of Warcraft. Filming started this January, but we've yet to find out much about the work in progress, which isn't due in theaters until March 11, 2016. But as filming continues, we're sure to find out more -- if nothing else, expect the movie to make a big splash at this year's BlizzCon -- - but in the meantime, we'll have to make do with this tiny, grainy image.

Blizzard Entertainment originally announced plans to make a World of Warcraft live-action movie in 2006. After eight years of delays, disputes, and false starts, it looks as though someone is finally yelling, "Action!" on one of the most anticipated game-related movies ever to swirl through the rumor mill. Last night, director Duncan Jones tweeted, "Going to start shooting the movie tomorrow. Crikey! Better find my specs!" While Jones didn't mention World of Warcraft specifically, the movie was expected to start shooting this month with a planned release date of March 11th, 2016. Dominic Cooper, Paula Patton, Clancy Brown, Toby Kebbell, and Travis Fimmell have all been confirmed as stars.

After years of rumors, delays, and speculation it appears the Warcraft movie has finally begun filming. Director Duncan Jones tweeted late last night that today was going to be the first shoot day, but wasn't exactly specific if this was related to Warcraft or not. The originally reported shoot schedule of January, plus tweets such as this leads us to believe that it is indeed Warcraft. Joining him on the Vancouver, Canada set will be Warcraft's list of stars: Travis Fimmell, Dominic Cooper, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Robert Kazinsky, Clancy Brown, Toby Kebbell, and Daniel Wu. Going to start shooting the movie tomorrow. Crikey! Better find my specs! - Duncan Jones (@ManMadeMoon) January 20, 2014 Warcraft will be an orcs vs. humans origin story, featuring the characters of Anduin Lothar and Durotan. We know little else about the movie's plot or characters but you can check out our Warcraft movie panel liveblog from BlizzCon 2013 for more information. The film has an announced release date of March 11, 2016. Do you think Warcraft will buck the trend of mediocre video game to movie adaptations?

A BlizzCon 2013 panel has revealed new details regarding Warcraft, the movie adaptation of Blizzard's epic tale of orc-on-human-on-elf-on-various-other-races violence. While we already knew that the movie is slated to wage war on our pitiful human theaters on December 18, 2015, we didn't know what time period the movie would take place in, or which characters fans could expect to see. Now we do. The movie will be an "origin story," according to director Duncan Jones, and will explore conflict from the perspectives of both humans and orcs. In other words, this is Warcraft, not World of Warcraft. Anduin Lothar, who led the Alliance in Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, will be the hero for the humans, while Durotan, father of Thrall, will be the hero for the orcs. Jones said at the panel that the story would be "about both sides," and described the tone as "red and blue" instead of good and evil. The film's visual effects director, Bill Westenhofer, said that the team plans to use a mix of live-action and CG effects to create a "gritty, muddy, down in the dirt, covered in grime" feel that he compared to Gladiator. "The swords that are being built are the biggest swords that a human can wield," Westenhofer said. And which humans will be wielding those swords?

  • Rumor: 'Vikings' star Travis Fimmel to play lead role in Warcraft movie

Variety is reporting that Travis Fimmel, who plays Ragnar Lothbrok in the History Channel series Vikings, is set to star in the upcoming Warcraft movie. A formal offer hasn't been presented yet, but their sources say he will be playing one of the four lead roles in the film. Last month, it was reported that Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) was in negotiations for one of the lead roles. Colin Farrell has reportedly been offered a lead but it's uncertain how likely he is to sign on. The plot of the movie has been a carefully guarded secret and all we really know is there will be four lead characters. We should find out more at BlizzCon where there will be a panel dedicated to the Warcraft movie with Duncan Jones (Director), Chris Metzen, and Rob Pardo. Warcraft will hit theaters on December 18, 2015.

  • Warcraft movie slated for discussion at BlizzCon

The upcoming Warcraft movie will get its own one-hour panel at BlizzCon 2013. The panel will feature director Duncan Jones as well as Chris Metzen and Rob Pardo on hand to discuss the transition of Warcraft from game to screen. Taking place from 1-2pm Saturday on the Main Stage, the one-hour presentation may just clear up some burning questions players have had about the film -- like what exactly the film is going to be about, among many, many other things. The movie itself was first announced as a possibility all the way back in 2006, and the last time we had a panel at BlizzCon dedicated to the film was a Q&A panel back in 2007. Since then, discussion about the movie had mostly dwindled out, leaving many to wonder if we'd ever see Warcraft on the big screen at all. 2013 marked an absolute flurry of new information on the film, as Duncan Jones was announced as the new director, filming was rumored and later confirmed to begin in 2014, a mood piece teaser was shown at San Diego ComicCon, story and casting rumors flew, and we were at last given an actual release date for the film: December 18, 2015. So what can we expect from this year's movie panel? That's a very good question. No doubt discussion of the evolution of the film may take place, although whether or not any questions will be taken at the panel hasn't really been made clear. But that small teaser piece from ComicCon hasn't aired anywhere since it was shown in San Diego. Will we get to see the teaser? Will we get a different teaser? Will casting be announced for the film? If you're headed to BlizzCon or you've signed up for a Virtual Ticket, you won't want to miss this panel -- and for those not attending, we'll be covering it here as well.
