  • HTC's Touch Diamond2 gets a little more real with date and price on eXpansys UK

While we wouldn't bet the bank on this price and date from eXpansys, it does give us a warm fuzzy feeling to know it's at least en route. The oft mis-stepping -- you know, leaking and such -- retailer has tagged the HTC Touch Diamond2 at £399 (roughly $570) with a potential shelf date of the 17th April. While it will ship with Windows Mobile 6.1, there is a mention in the "liner notes" on the page stating that it will be upgradable to Windows Mobile 6.5. Now we'll simply have to wait and see how it really pans out and how its bigger -- and likely pricier -- sibling, the HTC Touch Pro2 gets treated.[Via WMPoweruser]

  • Expansys puts Nokia N86 up for pre-order, gives it a release date

If our trusty old, leaky friends at Expansys are to be believed, European markets can expect to see Nokia's N86 handset on or about July 22, 2009. This would seem to be in line with the Q2 2009 estimate we'd previously heard, though the Expansys price -- €659.99 (about $853) -- is a lot higher than the €375 quote we've heard. Either way, the dual-slider boasts an 8MP camera with a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, AutoFocus, a mechanical shutter and a dual-LED flash, and is sure to be an eye-popper for cameraphone buffs when it does appear. Expansys has the N86 up on site and available for pre-order right now, if you simply cannot wait until this summer. [Thanks, Stephen]

  • Nokia E75 outed by -- you guessed it -- Expansys

We've been seeing the Nokia E75's face around for so long now that none of this is bound to be shocking. Still, the QWERTY slider's been formally outed by our trusty, leaky friends over at Expansys, confirming all we knew to be true about the device. Yep, it's got a 2.4-inch, 320 x 240 QVGA display, quad-band GSM / EDGE and dual-band HSDPA, WiFi, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and A-GPS. The E75 is expected to be on hand at MWC, and we're hearing it'll be available on or around March 13th for somewhere in the neighborhood of $580. [Via Boy Genius Report]

The folks at Expansys are hard at work helping us get a wee bit more dirt on what Samsung has in store for us this year with the unofficial unveiling of the Samsung C6625. This QWERTY messaging device has a 2 megapixel camera, runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, triple-band GSM, HSDPA in the unfortunate (for us) 2100MHz band, AGPS, and 100MB of onboard memory that you can boost with microSDHC. Pricing is tentatively set -- these things change as it is still a pre-order -- at $365 with no firm shipping date. Thanks again for the goods and we'll see you, Samsung, at Mobile World Congress.[Via WMPoweruser]

  • Leak sauce: Expansys rides again, three Samsung sets outed?

Seems the good people at Expansys are up to their shenanigans again, but this time we're seeing a few Samsung sets dribbling out of the leaky tap -- mind you, we won't holler legitimate 'til we hear it from Samsung. The Samsung B2100 -- apparently a follow up to the M110 and B2700 -- which actually appeared back in October 2008, The Samsung Louve (perhaps a typo of Louvre? It'll make sense in a minute) and the Samsung Pivot. The Pivot is apparently set to be one of Samsung's first handsets with Windows Mobile 6.5 and will come loaded with a 5 megapixel camera, QWERTY keypad, LED flash, aGPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, and is touted as coming in a package similar to the Samsung i780. Samsung's Louve is said to be designed like the TyTN II and shares its sliding and tilting screen -- see where the Louvre name fits in? -- runs Windows Mobile 6.1, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and shares the i900 Omnia's tweak-ready interface. The Expansys "Insider" mentioned filling in the details and posting some pics soon, we'll get those up if we see them or fill you in when we hear more.[Via Cellpassion]

  • MWg releasing Windows Mobile 7 gear before the year's out?

    by

Not long after spinning off from former corporate parent O2, Windows Mobile purveyor MWg is moving out of its Asian comfort zone to attempt to sell its wares over in Europe with a splashy press conference to kick things off -- and if the aggressive roadmap they're pursuing for the next year or so holds true, they might just have a fighting chance at making a splash up there. First up are the official European intros of the Atom V and Zinc II, HSDPA-equipped handsets that have been kicking around for a while now, but that's not even close to the interesting part. Looking deeper into '08 reveals a handful of HTC Diamond competitors, devices that are sporting a respectable 7.2Mbps down and 5.2Mbps up, and looking still deeper into the fourth quarter suggests that MWg intends to release its first Windows Mobile 7-powered device -- the Flame II -- with GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and "multimedia features" on board. That seems a little far-fetched considering that 7 hasn't been officially shown off and 6.1 isn't even in broad distribution to users yet, but we appreciate MWg's motivation here. We also see a Shift killer in the wings with Vista and a 3G data connection toward the end of the year, so all told, the future's looking bright for these cats if they can actually execute.

We're pretty fond of the Eee PC's current design, but for those of you looking for something a little more pro, Expansys and Directron are both listing the black version we saw a while back for a $20 markup. Expansys is listing ship time at 8 days, so if you're already used to waiting for a white one, it shouldn't be too bad.Read -- Expansys listingRead -- Directron listing[Via Coolest Gadgets]

  • Expansys UK offering unlocked iPhone

Hmmm, this is interesting. While the whole European iPhone carrier mess gets sorted, Expansys has gone ahead and listed a "network-unlocked" iPhone for their English punters. There's no price or delivery on the 8GB model which makes the pre-order button a bit dubious. Still, the quad-band GSM / EDGE phone looks every bit the peer to its US colonial cousin only with the promise to work with a SIM card from "any UK or European GSM provider." Do you know something we don't Expansys or is this just wishful thinking?Update: Expansys updated the site, gone is the paragraph regarding the unlocked SIM. Now back to your hacking stations, please.[Thanks, Marc G.]

  • Unboxing the Toshiba Portege G900

What would you give for a WM6 QWERTY with a 3-inch screen touting an 800 x 480 pixel resolution? Well, reader Kim Nyberg forked over a €635/$860 premium to Expansys for the Toshiba Portege G900 and has the unboxing pics to prove it. And you thought $599 was expensive. Oh, did we mention it's tri-band HSDPA with WiFi?

  • Tech Faith Wireless sells 501 under UBiQUio brand

Looks like the TechFaith Q-killer's finally headed into the discerning hands of the general public under the UBiQUio brand, outfitted with a more BenQ P50-like keyboard, and badged with the model number 501 (as listed on Expansys). You'd have thought a device from a still-no name Chinese ODM would require a little less cash from your pocketbook than the $514 it's being sold for, but aside from having a touchscreen and running Pocket PC, little did you know this thing also has 64MB flash memory, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 1.2 with A2DP, 2 megapixel camera, miniSD slot, and a mini USB port? Motorizon better just hope like the dickens that TechFaith doesn't find someone like Cingular to pick 'em up Stateside -- though that could be a while, considering the 501 is still tri-band with 900MHz, and only has GPRS class 10. A device just can't be perfect, can it?[Via MobilitySite]

  • Sony Ericsson P990i dropping this week in UK?

    07.30.2006

Yes, we know that Expansys' release dates tend to be, shall we say, moving targets. Call us optimistic, but their UK site's currently showing an estimated 4 days to availability, possibly putting units into the hands of patient British technophiles as early as this week. As a refresher, Sony Ericsson's latest top-of-the-range smartphone is currently in the process of pulling a BenQ P50, having been announced nearly ten excruciating months ago. Be that as it may, the P990i will still be the best way to get yourself to the tippy top of the UIQ hill and we don't put it past an American or two to import the thing -- despite lacking both GSM 850 and UMTS 850 / 1900.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • Qtek 8500/HTC Star Trek available for pre-order

Much to the delight of our friends across the pond, British phone e-tailer Expansys has posted a page for the Qtek 8500/HTC Star Trek claiming a May 10th availability, further stating that UK customers can expect shipment in nineteen working days. In case you've been living in a cave for the last few months, the Star Trek, also sold as the i-mate Smartflip and Dopod S300, is HTC's first flip phone, and they've managed to pack a Windows Mobile 5.0-powered 200MHz OMAP processor, quad band GSM radio, 1.3 megapixel camera, 64MB of ROM, and music playback from a microSD slot into a 99-gram package. Expansys is charging £360 to get your hands on the 'Trek, which means we'll probably be importing ours from Asia, for like, $200 cheaper.[Via Reg Hardware]
