We've got a duo of high-profile titles to check out here on VC in Brief this week. Come for the shooting stuff, stay for the Pig Chutes. Blaster Master (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Earthworm Jim 2 (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks like that.

As promised, Sunsoft's brought Blaster Master to the Virtual Console -- though we think the impact is somewhat dulled by the quantity of other games available for download this week. There's a total of 11 different games available, so head past the break for the full list.

This week, the European Wii and DS Shops' halls are decked, with one festive, holiday-themed game each! Happy Holidays: Christmas on WiiWare is, like the Halloween WiiWare release, a program that lets you put together and send e-cards. Yep. Just Sing! Christmas Songs on DSiWare is pretty much what it sounds like: a karaoke game in which you just sing Christmas songs. Two of them. Just watch the trailer (via GoNintendo) after the break. Oh, also, Earthworm Jim 2 on Virtual Console. Neat! Earthworm Jim 2 (Mega Drive, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Mahjong (WiiWare, 500 Wii Points) Happy Holidays: Christmas (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Foto Face: The Face Stealer Strikes (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points) A Little Bit of ... Magic Made Fun: Matchmaker (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Just Sing! Christmas Songs (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) myNotebook: Red (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)

After last week's massive update in Japan, WiiWare is taking some time off. That means that the spotlight falls directly on the okay Virtual Console lineup for this week. Earthworm Jim 2 arrives as an import, which demonstrates two really wonderful things about Japan's Virtual Console -- first, that Mega Drive games only cost 600 Wii Points in Japan, and second, that imports don't cost any extra. Nor should they, as they aren't localized and they cost the same to put on a server as anything else. Also available this week: the arcade version of Xevious, and one of those ridiculous Koei strategy games, this one about Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Taikou Risshiden (Super Famicom, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Earthworm Jim 2 (Mega Drive, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) Xevious (Arcade, players, 800 Wii Points)

  • More great VC news: Mega Man 1, 2, Earthworm Jim 2 rated

The latest ESRB update confirms two wonderful things that we knew were happening at some point: first, that Mega Man and the sublime Mega Man 2 would be on the way to our Virtual Console soon; second, that Earthworm Jim would make an appearance. Even more interesting -- Earthworm Jim has been rated for a while, but the latest update includes a rating for Earthworm Jim 2 on the Wii! Strangely, the new rating is for the Wii and Genesis versions, while another rating is already on the site for the Genesis game. Now it's got two E ratings! It's extra appropriate for families.Other interesting new games found in ratings: Professor Heinz Wolff's Gravity, an Incredible Machine/Crayon Physics hybrid; Potpourii, a matching puzzle game; and Midnight Pool and Midnight Bowling from Gameloft.
