Eiconic Games, the UK developer behind Total Recoil, recently announced its new project, Final Horizon. Described as an "extraterrestrial RTS," the game will come to PS4 and Vita at an as-yet-unannounced date. Final Horizon Creative Director Simon Credland wrote in a recent PlayStation Blog update that the game is "the evolution of tower defense," in that enemies won't crawl "slowly in single file from left to right" like other games in the genre. The game's insect-like robots will "move in an alien way" and will challenge players with missiles, pulse beams and other weapons.

UK indie developer Eiconic Games is preparing a new twin-stick shooter for the PS Vita on July 9 called Total Recoil. The premise is simple: Shoot everything. Shoot all the things. Total Recoil is already available on iOS 5.0 and greater as a free download, in case you're looking for an idea of what to expect from the PS Vita game; however, the PS Vita port has additional features like rear touchpad controls for missiles, allowing players to trace their flight path. When a killstreak bonus is achieved, players can use the front touch-screen to control the support plane. Unfortunately, Eiconic Games doesn't reveal pricing in the PlayStation Blog announcement post.%Gallery-192665%

We're not going to say that the two games released on Xbox Live Arcade this week -- this week being Christmas -- were released as afterthoughts. However, they probably aren't games you've been dying to play. You can choose between block-pushing puzzle goodness or alien-blasting action in Polar Panic or 0 day Attack on Earth, respectively. Polar Panic will set you back 800 ($10), while 0 day Attack on Earth expects 1200 of your hard earned points ($15). Watch the latest XBLA in Brief and see if either demands your attention. • Joystiq puts hands on Squeeballs, GameTrak Freedom

The Gametrak Freedom is doomed. Some clarification: I'm don't think the Freedom is a bad product. In fact, there's a very marketable product to be found in both the controller and its bundled game, Squeeballs. As one PR rep put it to me when I arrived for my appointment -- and I'm paraphrasing here -- "it turns your Xbox 360 into a Wii." There's definitely a market there. I'm sure there are plenty of young fathers out there that would love to turn their Call of Duty box into a Wii for the kids, minus the cost of an actual Wii.I'm not sure if I liked Squeeballs, but then, it's not meant for me.%Gallery-65042%
