We've known for a while that SOE is cooking up some sort of emergent AI concoction for EverQuest Next. The company famously partnered with Storybricks last year to bring its fantasy NPCs to life, and a newly released video sheds a bit more light on what exactly that means. The clip stems from a panel that was originally conducted at this year's SOE Live, which has now been distilled to a more manageable five-minute running time. Click past the cut to find out about EQN's lack of traditional quest hubs and how to make NPCs bow before your mighty axe of authority.

SOE has dropped another EverQuest Next Landmark dev diary video. Senior producer Terry Michaels and senior art director Rosie Rappaport are your hosts for a three-minute look at the creation of the world. "We didn't want to create the world for Landmark the way we did in previous games. It needs to be giant, it needs to be huge," Michaels says. "So we couldn't go down the path of hand-crafting everything in the world. It would take way too long and people would consume that content way before we could create more of it." SOE's solution is procedural content, and the video attempts to explain how the firm's concept art, "field guides," and various assets fit together and enable devs "to basically press a button and generate a continent that looks hand-crafted."

EverQuest Next and EQN Landmark lead designer Darrin McPherson is your host for the game's third video dev diary installment. The four-minute clip covers resource gathering and leveling up your tools, of which there are four types: a pick, a sickle, an axe, and a bucket. McPherson says there are five progression tiers and that players will be able to use each of the tools to create materials, "much like you would craft a recipe." The video shows off plenty of player-crafted material examples including riveted metal, wood flooring, gemstone blocks, and plenty more. There's also a brief walkthrough of a player-crafted castle around the three-minute mark. Get a good look via the video clip after the cut.
