Google's AR tools make it easier for apps to apply face filters
Augmented reality experiences are still in their relative infancy, but because Android runs on so many devices, it can't always assume they'll have dedicated hardware to create extra effects. While Apple is already pushing ahead with AR and packed an entire Kinect-like camera into the front of its iPhone X family to support it, Google is enhancing its software to work even without capabilities like the LG G8's depth-sensing hardware.
Snapchat's Lens Studio now allows anyone to create a face filter
Snapchat's Lens Studio allows anyone to create custom lenses for the popular social networking app. Now, the company has announced some new features. Most importantly, Snapchat has finally opened face filter creation to everyone; before this, the only lenses available for custom creation were world lenses.
Instagram's face filters are now available during your livestreams
The face filters that Instagram swiped from Snapchat are now available on Instagram Live. Starting today, you can add filters before your Live feed airs or during with options that include various crowns and animal ears as well as pilot getup and and nerd glasses. Also, for the next week, a sunglasses filter will be available only through live video and it allows users to tap on the glasses to change what scenery is reflected off of them.
Instagram apes Snapchat yet again with face filters
At this point, it's probably easier to note the features Instagram and Facebook haven't swiped from Snapchat. Those tools already include the likes of Stories, stickers and more. Today, the filter-driven photo app announced a slew of new features, one of which looks quite familiar: face filters. That's tight, the goofy headwear, animal noses, glasses and more you know and love on Snapchat are now available for your selfies on Instagram.
