I'm not sure if anyone has come up with a name for this video form yet. It's analogous to a cover in music, where one artist or group will play a song by another. Here, Nyteshade has taken the opening sequence from Battlestar Galactica and redone it, casting various mechanicals, from Gnomeregan and elsewhere, as the Cylons.
