Cranius and Sharm team up for duo album
Folks who enjoy the World of Warcraft musical scene probably already recognize the names Cranius and Sharm. Individually, these two people have each created huge swaths of music that've inspired WoW players for year. That's why it's so exciting that the two of them are teaming up to release a duo album. The album will consist of entirely original work -- no parodies, riffs, or mere covers of other people's songs. The pair had tried to make the collaboration work while Sharm was in the U.K., but things weren't working out so well. What to do? Sharm jumped on a plane and flew out to Seattle, where Sharm and Cranius will spend the next few months recording the album. Here's hoping everything goes smoothly and quickly. We can't wait to hear the results! And while it's exciting that the album is entirely original, we wouldn't hate a fresh cover of Darrowshire with some duet action.
WoW Moviewatch: The End of the World As We Know It
We've seen It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) by R.E.M. used for Cataclysm trailers more than once. The song obviously lends itself to this use, considering how it heralds the end of everything we've known. We're now a month into the new expansion, and it's a great time to look at how we all feel fine. This video, The End of the World As We Know It, was created by World of Filkcraft. I think it's actually my favorite video of its kind. This isn't because the video itself is groundbreaking, although it's a great backdrop to the song, but because I enjoyed their rendering of the song so much. World of WarCrafts: Filking tells musical tales of WoW
World of WarCrafts spotlights art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music and fan fiction. Show us how you express yourself; contact our tips line (attention: World of WarCrafts) with your not-for-profit, WoW-inspired creations. "Filking" is a funny word. Sounds faintly obscene (or at least embarrassingly personal), doesn't it? "We caught you, you nasty little filker!" We're frankly surprised that more WoW.com readers aren't familiar with the term, since filk is music with a science fiction or fantasy theme (or more broadly, a musical culture, genre and community tied to sci-fi/fantasy fandom). Most filk falls into the acoustic folk music genre, but some filkers prefer rock, a cappella or other styles. Parody is popular among filkers -- and it's how this week's featured WoWCrafter, Kevin of Rad Bear Music, got his start making music about WoW. Kevin and Andrew, his partner in crime, didn't start out seeking to filk. They first began fiddling with a few silly songs about WoW for their geek-centric podcast, Super Number One. The idea picked up steam, and they've ended up with the beginnings of a catalog of WoW filk. World of WarCrafts has been in touch with Kevin (Fourtree on US Thunderlord) for several months now to keep tabs on this burgeoning musical project.
