Ah, those crazy-beautiful multi-purpose navigation devices of South Korea, is there anything they can't do? If your answer is that they can't teach you English, think again. The iQ Special features a language trainer built on voice recognition software from its predecessor, the FineDrive X700, alongside the usual fare of goodies we westerners rarely get to see: SiRF-based GPS, DMB digital TV, video and music playback, and even TPEG traffic alerts. Priced at 469,000 KWN ($384), this PND is available today, and it's probably redundant to note that it won't be making its way to English-speaking countries any time soon -- not that we doesn't need it, mind you. It's been a hot minute since we've seen anything fresh from FineDigital, but the firm has just introduced the slim and seductive FineDrive X700 over in South Korea. Humorously, the company is asserting that this particular unit is the first of its kind to offer voice recognition, but even a light amount of research would help it understand such a statement is far from being true. Nevertheless, the unit does look to offer a spacious screen and a bundled remote, but details beyond that are unfortunately absent.

Oh hey, what's this? Thin GPS... can it really be? Fine Digital just announced their Finedrive M760 navigator with real-time TPEG traffic alerts for S.Korea. Of course, with a 7-inch, 480 x 234, LED-backlit LCD display, they just couldn't resist slapping in some DMB television to up the distraction factor. Hell, it even features a little NIP (Navigation In Picture) so you'll never have to look at the road again. The 25-mm (1-inch) slab also packs an SD card and 800mA battery to take your MPEG-4, DivX, WMV video and MP3, WMA, and WAV audio with you once you arrive. If you arrive, that is. It'll cost you ???440,000 (about $483) for the pleasure starting next month.[Via AVING]

  • FineDigital's FineDrive 500 GPS unit boasts 5.1-inch LCD, lofty price

We've got no qualms with FineDigital adding yet another perfectly average portable GPS device to the fray, but the inexplicably high $699 pricetag practically prices this bad boy right out of consideration. Focusing more intently on navigating its users than the M300, the FineDrive 500 rocks a 5.1-inch touchscreen, SD slot, 128MB of built-in memory, NAVTEQ maps of the US and Canada, and "millions" of POIs. It also touts automatic redirecting and the obligatory robotic announcer belting out turn-by-turn guidance to go along with the Day / Night views and 2D / 3D displays. While this unit hasn't gone on sale just yet, we just don't see any reason to mark this one down considering the more equipped (and lower priced) alternatives.[Via NaviGadget]
