We sat down at the Gaia Industries launch party of Street Trace for Xbox Live Arcade a few weeks ago in their Downtown NYC offices. The Xbox Live-enabled title is one of the most ambitious for the XBLA service, focusing primarily on online racing battles. As revealed in our interview Street Trace has come a long way, inspired by Tron, moving on to a PSP concept, and then finally ending up on XBLA.Where did the concept for Street Trace come from? The concept came from a game I actually built twenty years ago. Tron just came out and I was a kid, just about eleven or twelve and I made a little Tron-based game on the Zedex Spectrum, a really old machine. It certainly sounds old. That was the initial thing, and made it 3D about five years ago. And although it came from this initial idea of the trails, about three years ago we made this prototype. We changed it from being futuristic to grungy, and changed a lot of the stuff around. A lot of our inspirations are coming from games like Twisted Metal, Tony Hawk, SSX, the whole hoverboard and skating genre that we love. It's a mix of all those things.

We promised you a Wing Commander Arena surprise this week and we're ready to reveal all. Next Monday Xbox 360 Fanboy will be going head to head with fifteen other Xbox community websites in an EA sponsored Wing Commander Arena Tournament to not only find out which blog has the best WCA skills, but to also win prizes galore. That's right, EA will be rewarding the top four community websites with prizes to share with their readers. What prizes you ask? Well, the blog that places first in the tournament will receive a 50" 1080p television, a Bose 3-2-1 surround sound system, an Xbox 360 Elite and a boatload of Microsoft points. And like we said, any prizes we win we'll be giving away to you guys right here on X3F. Sweet deal isn't it?I, Dustin, will be representing X3F in the tourney in hopes of doing us proud, winning some prizes for you guys, and pwning the other community sites. Tomorrow, when WCA releases, I'll be downloading the game and getting as much practice in before next Monday's tournament rolls around. So, if you're purchasing WCA and are willing to help me train or have some strategies to share then be sure to hit me up on Xbox Live. Any nuggets of knowledge will help. We're in this together guys, because my success will only benefit you with the possibility of winning some rockin' prizes.A list of all sixteen Xbox community websites (evil competitors) that'll be participating in the tournament is listed after the break as well as what prizes can be won. Monday, July 30th is when the tournament goes down ... let's win this X3F!

Street Trace NYC just might be what XBLA multiplayer action lovers have been yearning for. The guys over at Game Stooge wrote up a quick and dirty review of their impressions after receiving some hands on time with the game at a recent New York City event held by developer Gaia Industries. And with the game's numerous game modes, fast and fearless gameplay, and overall hoverboard fun they feel the game will definitely be worth 800 Microsoft points when it releases (whenever that may be). So, if you're intrigued by hoverboard fighting mayhem, be sure to check out Game Stooge's full Street Trace preview after the jump.

Gamertag Radio and The Xbox Domain, along with Gaia Industries, are hosting a special event next month in New York City. On May 5th, starting at 2:00PM ET, the event will give eager players a chance to play Street Trace before it releases on Xbox Live Arcade (sounds familiar). Godfree from GTR informs us that there just might be an extra special surprise there too. It's a secret though. We totally know what it is too, but we're not telling. We can tell you, however, that free pizza and drinks will be available for all who attend. If you live in or near NYC and are available to attend, hit the "read" link for full details.

GamerTag Radio interviews some guys from Gaia Industries about their original Xbox Live Arcade title, Street Trace NYC. This game was playable at Digital LIfe, but hasn't gotten much press, despite 3D enviroments, split-screen/online multiplayer and a Michael J. Fox-friendly concept (hoverboards). You can visit the game's official site here. While they're doing their alternative media tour, maybe these hard-working indie developers should grab some toilet paper and remind Sony's snobbish Sgt. Pepper that XBLA has plenty of new IP on the way.
