  • IBM's Watson to rival humans in round of Jeopardy!

IBM's already proven that a computer from its labs can take on the world's best at chess, but what'll happen when the boundaries of a square-filled board are removed? Researchers at the outfit are obviously excited to find out, today revealing that its Watson system will be pitted against brilliant Earthlings on Jeopardy! in an attempt to further artificial intelligence when it comes to semantics and searching for indexed information. Essentially, the machine will have to be remarkably labile in order to understand "analogies, puns, double entendres and relationships like size and location," something that robotic linguists have long struggled with. There's no mention of a solid date when it comes to the competition itself, but you can bet we'll be setting our DVRs whenever it's announced. Check out a video of the progress after the break.[Via The New York Times]

Are you tired to standing in long lines at malls this holiday season? Next time, bring along your iPhone so you can play a game to pass the time. TV Show King [iTunes link] is a trivia game centered around nearly 3,000 questions ranging in topic from music to history to pop culture, and it has a fun side that is sure to keep you entertained while your wife/husband shops. If "TV Show King" sounds familiar, that's probably because the game is based on a WiiWare title by the same name. You can create an avatar that looks like you and compete with up to four other players. These players can either be computers, or real people over the Internet. In addition, you can host or join a game over a WiFi connection -- this game really has multi-player functionality covered. TV Show King definitely gives you the feeling that you are on a game show; it even has a host that occasionally interrupts the game to give stats. There are two things that I wish could be improved, however. I would like to see better graphics, and I would also like to see harder questions with different categories. If you're looking for an application for kids, or any trivia fans, check out TV Show King. It's sure to give you hours worth of fun game play. You can purchase TV Show King from the iTunes App Store for $4.99US. %Gallery-39507%

The Sci-Fi Channel has partnered with Samsung and Granada America to hunt down the most well-rounded gamer in the United States as part of WCG GameQuest, a new "elimination-style" game show. Besides bragging rights (and sore thumbs), the winner of the "competition series" will also walk away with $100,000 and trips to attend future World Cyber Games events. However, to survive the eight-episode tournament, contestants will not only have to stand up to the rigors of gameplay, but also real-life "physical challenges." We hope to see the gaming elite vie for superiority by plunging head first Double Dare-style into pools of slime when WCG GameQuest hits the airwaves in the first quarter of 2009.

This summer, we had assumed The Price is Right had finally gone HD during the daytime, but unfortunately, it wasn't to be. Instead, we were forced to wait a few months until its 37th season began. As of this week, however, the fabled game show is back and clearer than ever in sparkling high-definition. Viewers will also notice a freshened set, bigger prizes and a new game as well. Add one more to the list of reasons your boss should let you work from home.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Some four months after The Price is Right made the leap to high-definition on Friday nights, the daytime variant of the famed game show has now followed suit. During today's first pricing game, host Drew Carey proudly proclaimed that the show was now airing in HD during the day, after which kids home from school and grandparents with TVs from 1982 celebrated and did nothing, respectively.[Thanks, Justin]

  • The strangest Arkanoid video you'll ever see

One thing we've learned while playing Arkanoid DS -- it's difficult to break blocks and eat at the same time. The man in the video above seems to have it all figured out, though. While this still might not be as fun as playing with the imported paddle, at least you'll have an easier time multitasking. File this one under "another crazy video from Japan."[Via GoNintendo]

Truth be told, The Price is Right has indeed been airing in high-definition for the past couple of weeks just as we heard it would, but we figured it prudent to affirm that yes, the famed game show is indeed now in high-definition. As far as we know, CBS will continue broadcasting the daytime mainstay in high-def after its stint on Friday nights is up, so be sure and set that HD DVR for all you folks holding it down with the 8 to 5 whenever.[Thanks, Jerry H.]

We'll be straight with you -- we're taking this with a sizable bucket of salt at the moment, but we've received word that CBS is gearing up to deliver what's undoubtedly one of America's most recognizable game shows in stunning high-definition. We already knew that the network was planning to air a series of The Price is Right episodes on Friday nights here soon, but apparently, the half dozen primetime shows will actually be broadcast in 1080i. Reportedly, you can watch contestants come on down in HD starting at 8:00PM on February 22nd, but don't expect to see the show make the leap to high-def in its daytime slot until sometime in March.[Image courtesy of Yahoo, thanks anonymous tipster]

  • Moore announces GameShow from EA Sports

He's been on the job officially two days, and today Peter Moore and EA Sports will announce a new title called GameShow. In an interview with GameDaily BIZ, Moore talks about today's expected presentation of GameShow, which will be a "simple, free, fun experience" sports trivia game. There will also be streaming video and audio according to Moore. He says, "I think you'll find it an interesting departure from what we typically have at EA Sports with regard to how we have consumers compete with each other, but I think it checks every box of what sports fans are looking for."According to the NY Times, GameShow will initially be PC based. If it is successful, it will move to XBLA and PSN. We haven't really seen an ad-supported program done on consoles yet, it would be a nice change of pace.Read: Peter Moore's Sporting InterviewRead: A global vision for the new man at EA Sports

  • Cash Money Chaos video interview

Gamespot has a new video interview with Cash Money Chaos' lead designer. While the video doesn't offer any new info on the game, it does provide plenty of in-game footage of the game's bloody carnage. The designer compares it to Smash TV and Robotron, but with a crazy alien 70s game show feel. Keep this one on your radar: it'll be a mere $30 when it launches in Q1 2007, and it'll feature 8-player online infrastructure play with stat-tracking.

You play an Elvis-imposter in SOE's newly announced game Cash Money Chaos. And like the original Elvis, you are captured by aliens, and are forced to participate in a "twisted 70s game show." No, you're not going to be playing The Price is Right. You'll have to fight through dozens of enemies, killing everything in your sight. This "uber fast" shooter appears to play a bit like Robotron, if it suddenly turned into Robocop instead: making people's bodies explode in buckets of blood. The game will come with more than 50 levels, and include online infrastructure play for up to 8 players. If you're interested in some really brutal cartoon violence, and want to kill ninjas, hillbillies, clowns, pirates, and aliens, then you'll have to wait a while: Cash Money Chaos is coming "early 2007." Check out the official website to score some art and screenshots.[Thanks, steve!]
