Last year at the launch of the iPad, there were very few accessories available. Sure, you could pick up an Apple Case for the iPad, and I think there were a handful of third-party cases, but the variety wasn't exactly overwhelming. After the wildly successful first year of the iPad, everyone in the accessory business is going out of their way to make sure you have a choice of goodies at launch or shortly thereafter. In this article, I'll tell you about some of the cases and stands we've heard about so far. Targus 360° Rotating Stand / Case for iPad 2 This is the first iPad 2-specific product that I've actually received, and it's a beauty. The Targus 360° Rotating Stand / Case (US$59.99) features a unique design with a 360° swivel that allows the iPad 2 to be displayed in portrait or landscape orientations. Unlike other swiveling stands and cases, the Targus 360° is remarkably thin. The center of the swivel mechanism is open so that the Apple logo is clearly visible, there's a soft velour lining to gently caress your iPad 2 screen, and the exterior is a very attractive black faux leather. To hold the case closed while in transit, there's a wide elastic band similar to that used on Moleskine notebooks. The plastic "tray" that holds the iPad 2 has a hole in the proper spot for the rear-facing camera, although the device has to be swiveled into portrait mode for the camera to be able to "see." You can buy one now through Amazon, and Best Buy stores will have the cases available on March 11. Targus will also have the thin Protective TPU Skin for iPad 2 ($29.99) and Vuscape Cover and Stand ($39.99) available to protect that new iPad 2. • Nice white iPhone 4 mod

While we wait for Apple to begin selling white iPhones, people have been coming up with their own solutions. The folks at Engadget used several spare parts to build theirs. But TUAW reader Trevor took a decidedly simpler approach. First, he created a file with a JPEG of the vintage Apple logo and then sent it to Gelaskins' upload tool. From there, the process is simple. Using the online tool, drag the uploaded image to the iPhone 4 template and set it just so. You can even create matching wallpaper. Finally, make your purchase and let the Gelaskins worker bees do the rest. Yes, it's just a stick-on skin, but the vintage logo ads a bit of cool and, unlike Engadget's solution, all of the original parts are intact.

Back in December, I wrote up a little piece on Infectious, a company that produces adhesive art for laptops and the iPhone. The company has just expanded its options to include art options for the current iPod Nano, Touch, and Classic models, priced at $9.99USD. In addition to this, the company is running a contest where they are giving away five free skins every week. Infectious has also greatly expanded the variety of art available, with ongoing submissions for potential artists. The added art for the iPod models greatly closes the gap between it and GelaSkins, and I'm happy not only to see this company grow, but amazing creative talent that is being displayed on both sites that enables you to turn your iPod, iPhone or laptop into a piece of art.

I am a huge fan of Gelaskins, and my iPhone has boasted one since I discovered a display at a small Toronto store back in May. Adhesive art for your iPhone, iPod, and Mac is a fantastic concept and a great way to express yourself beyond the typical hardware case. Infectious is another site that offers art for laptops, cars, and more. They have recently launched a line for the iPhone. The site currently has 38 different pieces of art for the iPhone, and is currently on sale for $9.99. The Infectious stickers will fit both generations of iPhones. You will get a large piece of art for the back of the phone, and a smaller one for the front that goes over the Home button. The artwork for the front of the iPhone is a fantastic feature that Gelaskins doesn't have, and one that I find very attractive. It makes it easy to spot your phone without having to flip it over to check the back or activate the screen to check the wallpaper. Art for laptops is starts at $29.99 and will fit the Powerbook G4, iBook, MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The artwork is made on 3M vinyl material and can be easily removed to put on another piece. Infectious is currently offering a deal for TUAW readers. Use discount code TuawRocks for 10% off from now until December 31.

  • Slap some Escher, Kandinsky, or van Gogh on your DS

Opinions on DS skins are quite evenly divided around these parts, but GelaSkins' latest range may influence a few of you naysayers. Having formerly specialized in producing extra layers for iPods and laptops, the company has turned its attention to Nintendo's ubiquitous handheld, by offering a range of 57 skins featuring prints by a wide array of artists. The selection on offer is pleasingly diverse, featuring both classic works from the likes of Kandinsky, Hokusai, Escher, and van Gogh, as well as pieces from a number of (largely lesser-known -- well, by us ignoramuses, anyway) modern artists. If you think any of the nine above are too gaudy for your tastes (though we personally love "Red Robot Leaving The City" by ExplodingDog), then check out our gallery for the full line-up. These aren't cheap at $20 a pop, but they're unquestionably unique, and if you buy three skins, you'll get a fourth free. Any of you anti-skin types converted by these?%Gallery-20794%

All right, you skinaholics (those addicted to PSP skins), we've got something new to feed your addiction. Gelaskins already had stuff to protect your iPod, RAZR, and other odd peripherals, but they've decided to reach into the handheld gaming market and now offer protective sticker-skins for the PSP and DS Lite. These skins are designed by professional artists or are adaptations of professional artist's work. On their site, they say if you buy three you can pick a fourth one for free! Check them out, see what you think. All are guaranteed to remove without any residue, so buy with confidence or whatever.[via Gearlog]

  • GelaSkins for your iPhone

The iPhone is great and all (expect my review of the iPhone within the week, I know you are all dying to hear what I think!) but there is one major problem with it: Apple is selling a ton of them but they all look the same. When you reach a certain density of iPhones within a group there is a high likelihood that someone will end up with the wrong iPhone. Luckily, GelaSkins offer up some highly attractive iPhone skins (with accompanying wallpaper) to help your iPhone stand out in the crowd. The GelaSkins iPhone skins cost $14.95 a pop.[via Laughing Squid]
