  • Know Your Lore: Warriors of Azeroth and beyond Part 1

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You're playing the game, you're fighting the bosses, you know the how -- but do you know the why? Each week, Matthew Rossi and Anne Stickney make sure you Know Your Lore by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft. Okay, this week, I'm going to do something massively nerdy and more than a little ridiculous. I'm going to rank the best warriors from across the World of Warcraft, according to my own subjective criteria for what 'best' means. It's not just who would win in a fight (that's in there, but it's not all of it) and unfortunately, some races are going to get shafted here just because they don't have as much representation. I'm trying to keep the list somewhat representative, but there are some races that just dominate it - orcs and humans get big representation, while other races like draenei just don't have an established lore warrior as of the time of this writing. I'm sure there are draenei warriors (I play one, even) but we tend to see paladins from the boys in blue. It's a sad lack. Some of these are kind of iffy because Blizzard does weird things sometimes - some of these characters have abilities you'll never see a warrior use in game - but none of them will be specifically mentioned members of another class. No demon hunters, paladins or rogues on this list. Sorry, Garona fans.

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You're playing the game, you're fighting the bosses, you know the how -- but do you know the why? Each week, Matthew Rossi and Anne Stickney make sure you Know Your Lore by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft. The war between Alliance and Horde has been the thematic highlight of Mists of Pandaria. Certainly Pandaria itself has held its share of mysteries, but those mysteries have been repeatedly plundered, the continent's horrors unleashed, all in the name of war. It's a war that's been a long time coming -- tensions between the Alliance and Horde have been slowly rising ever since the wintery days of Northrend, the frozen peaks of Icecrown. And it was in the chill air of Northrend that we first met a character who would become one of the more important players of the Mists expansion. Nazgrim had an innocent enough start in the Horde storyline, simply one of many questgivers up in Northrend. But as the expansions continued to roll out, Nazgrim's role grew substantially, until, at last, he was found fighting for the wrong side, defending Garrosh Hellscream's citadel to his last inevitable breath. But who was Nazgrim, really? Were there any merits to his choices, given that they ultimately brought about his demise? Was Nazgrim's life, his career, a vain exercise in futility?

  • Bosses in 5 seconds: Siege of Orgrimmar wing two

Guess who's back? Yep, it's bosses in five seconds again, returning with some advice for Siege of Orgrimmar LFR wing two. As ever, do remember that these are not in-depth strategies. They're not meant for your heroic raid team, and there are many guides out there which will suit you better if heroic raiding is your thing. This is meant, principally, for LFR, but will arm you decently if you step into a Flex PuG to take on these bosses. It's quick-and-dirty strategy guides for the second wing of LFR bosses. Let's get going! Galakras The Dungeon Journal is a bit daunting for Galakras, but it's actually a pretty simple fight. Clear trash. Keep Bonecrushers stunned and Tidal Shaman interrupted. Tank adds in fire pools, they take damage. Towers will open as Demolishers appear. Kill Demos first then... Send 1 tank, 1 healer and around 3-4 DPS to the towers. South, then North, avoid frontal cone so you don't get knocked off. Avoid shoot at all costs. It will two-shot you. Someone stay to man the turret. Ground team kill adds and Demolishers. When Galakras lands, stack up. Try to kite the fireball through other people.

  • Lichborne: Gates of Retribution raid loot for death knights

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Lichborne for blood, frost, and unholy death knights. In the post-Cataclysm era, death knights are no longer the new kids on the block. Let's show the other classes how a hero class gets things done. The second tier of Patch 5.4's Siege of Orgrimmar, Gates of Retribution, brings us to the Horde capital itself. There are four bosses to kill and much death knight loot to plunder. The disclaimers from last week's loot guide still apply. While best-in-slot guides are all well and good, keep in mind that what is "best" for you will change based on your skill level, talent choices, and your current gear, and that new gear at a higher item level, even if not optimal, may still be an upgrade over what you had before. With that in mind, let's dig in.

If you've been wanting to test out heroic modes in the Siege of Orgrimmar before patch 5.4 hits live servers on September 10, now's your chance. Tomorrow the PTR will be featuring 25-man heroic difficulty testing of three of the fights in the new raid. Fallen Protectors, Kor'kron Dark Shaman and General Nazgrim will all be available for testing over the course of the day tomorrow. Keep in mind that this is heroic difficulty, so expect the fights to look a little different than their normal or flex mode counterparts. Remember that these PTR bosses are open for testing purposes -- don't forget to leave your feedback for the encounters in the appropriate threads on the official PTR forums. Don't worry about bringing your own raid group -- although it is helpful, it's not required. If you need one, just hang around the raid entrance in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, as it's likely there will be more than a few raid groups looking for people to fill spots. And if you're worried about gear, don't be -- all gear will be scaled to the appropriate ilvl for the encounter. Read on for more details, including the full schedule of times for individual raid bosses.

Patch 5.4 may be up on the background downloader, but that doesn't mean there isn't more raid testing to do! Testing for the Siege of Orgrimmar bosses Sha of Pride, Kor'kron Dark Shaman, General Nazgrim and Malkorok takes place tomorrow throughout the day, this time on 25-man Normal difficulty. Not in a 25-man raid guild? Not a problem -- just log onto the PTR at the appropriate times, hang out in the Vale and you're likely to see plenty of people looking for folks to test the raid content. Keep in mind that these are PTR bosses open for testing purposes, and leave your feedback for these encounters in the appropriate threads on the official PTR forums. Gear, as always, will be scaled inside the raid for the purposes of testing content. If you'd like to participate, you can copy one of your existing characters to the PTR via your Battle.net account, or simply create a level 90 premade character to test with. Read on for more details, including the full schedule of times for individual raid bosses.

  • Siege of Orgrimmar Boss Preview: General Nazgrim

I'm not even going to sugar coat it. As a main Alliance player, I was delighted to get a chance to put the General in his place and strike down one of the Horde leaders. But as with the case of most PTR boss encounters, it was not to be. The General thoroughly kicked my behind all over the place. You'll find the General in the Ragefire Chasm area of Orgrimmar. He's expected to be the 8th encounter you'll find and he's surrounded by a large number of grunts. The General will call upon his Kor'kron legions to aid him periodically in battle. You'll be fending off waves of the Kor'kron while simultaneously battling through the different stances and rage abilities of the General. Read on for a little preview on what he does and my impressions of him!

Welcome to the first of many upcoming raid tests on the patch 5.4 PTR! The Siege of Orgrimmar is about to take place and both the Horde and the Alliance are invited! This is your chance to preview the upcoming encounters in a blank slate with no prior information. No strategies. No videos. No writeups. Blizzard will be starting with 10-player encounters before moving on to their Heroic and 25-player iterations. Testing starts Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25. Like the previous Throne of Thunder tests for patch 5.2, the bosses will only be available for a limited window of time.
