Continuing their downloadable content release frenzy, Guitar Hero III will be releasing another free download this Thursday, July 3rd, just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July. This Thursday, available as free download off the Xbox Live Marketplace will be the "Top Gun Anthem" as GHIII downloadable content. An iconic 1980's anthem that single handily changed the world. No really, it changed the world! Though, we'll be the first to admit it is a bit repetitive and long, but we can't help but be uber excited to celebrate our Fourth of July festivities with a tribute to our Tom Cruise Maverick. Fly on Maverick, fly on!

In celebration of this week's Fourth of July holiday, Activision plans to serenade Guitar Hero III players with in-your-face patriotism and ambiguous homo-eroticism -- that's right, the "Top Gun Anthem" will be available as a free download on July 3rd. The film's instrumental theme, obtainable from both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, is sure send your fingers up and down your instrument as you dream of being Val Kilmer's wingman. No, Tom Cruise's wingman!

Yesterday, we told you about World of Warcraft's "I am Murloc" track making its way to Guitar Hero III as downloadable content. Well, we just wanted to inform you that today the 14MB track became available for download off the XBLM and can be downloaded for FREE! Free WoW themed Guitar Hero DLC, what could be better? What's that? Free WoW themed Rock Band DLC you say? Come on now, be fair and don't be that guy. For shame.

Murloc fans rejoice (and we know there are plenty of you), as Activision-Blizzard brings wonderful news. New downloadable content for Guitar Hero III will be available tomorrow, the 26th of June. The track? "I am Murloc" by Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain, which is based around everyone's favorite amphibious freaks from World of Warcraft. Even better is the fact that this DLC will come at the pleasing price-point of zilch. Check out the embedded clip of the song -- even if you don't particularly like it, who can argue with a freebie? There's really nothing else to say but *mmgrlglegrgle!*[Via WoW Insider]

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/pc_games/World_of_Warcraft_meets_Guitar_Hero_III'; Though the corporate merger between Activision and Blizzard is still some months off, that hasn't stopped the two from getting awfully cozy lately, spending long, wine-filled evenings in each other's embrace, the soothing sound of Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain cascading against their warm bodies ...... before we get too far, that reminds us: L70ETC's number-one hit single (for WoW players) "I Am Murloc" will be available for Guitar Hero 3 on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms beginning tomorrow. Apparently the song is promotionally related to this weekend's Worldwide Invitational in Paris – not to mention that upcoming game announcement – but we know what it's really about. It's business time.[Via WoW Insider]

Acti and Guitar Hero III are pulling another video game promotion card from their marketing deck (shout out to the free Halo theme DLC), with the announcement of a FREE piece of World of Warcraft musical DLC. WoW's viral, underground and cult hit "I Am Murloc" by Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain will be released as GHIII DLC to the XBLM tomorrow, June 26th to celebrate the kickoff of the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational this Friday. But if you're a WoW addict, you probably already knew that. Actually, if you're a WoW addict you probably wouldn't be playing or even own GHIII seeing that your 40 hour gaming week consists of nothing but WoW. Third thought, if you're a WoW addict you probably aren't even reading this blog 'cuz you're busy traveling Azeroth. Humph. Press release after the break.

This is a pretty interesting auction, if we may say so. For one, we can understand if, say, Slash or Tom Morello, signed this Guitar Hero III package, but why would anyone get Ozzy to sign this? He's not in the game!Still, it's pretty impressive to have Ozzy sign your toy guitar. The auction ends on June 25th, so get while the getting is good.[Via Gamesniped]

Just as Entertainment Weekly promised, Activision recently sent word that music from Coldplay, including a track from their latest album Viva la Vida, will be making its way to the XBLM as Guitar Hero III downloadable content next Thursday, June 19th. The Coldplay DLC pack will consist of three tracks including their latest single "Violet Hill", their first ever hit "Yellow" and the single "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face". Even though Acti didn't make any mention of pricing, we expect you'll be able to grab this three pack for the standard GHIII DLC going rate of 500 Microsoft points. Official press release posted after the break.

The second of five sets of June's promised Guitar Hero III DLC just released today, bringing with it music from the Isle of Wight to a living room (or den) near you. Available for 500 Microsoft points off the XBLM is the new GHIII Isle of Wight Track Pack featuring the musical tracks "Problems" by The Sex Pistols, "Shoot the Runner" by Kasabian and "I Predict a Riot" by Kaiser Chiefs. And because we loved it so much last time, embedded above is an encore presentation of Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner" video. It's almost like a violent gun filled iPod commercial, no?

It's not often that we find great deals on big-name titles, especially two on the same day, but perhaps you were feeling lucky, punk, and the fickle game deal gods decided to reign their glory upon you.Behind door number one, we have Super Smash Bros. Brawl for $48.99! Okay, we're just joshing you (not about the price, since it is marked down a dollar, but that's not what we're excited about). Rather, with a purchase of Brawl, Amazon is offering a $10 gift card. Around these parts, an Amazon gift card is as good as cash, so those of you who are Brawl-less (in North America) should consider getting your rumble on.The other deal is for Guitar Hero III, which has been on sale before, but usually as a "Deal of the Day." We're not sure how long this particular sale will last, but if you want $20 off your Guitar Hero purchase, you can get it for $69.99 (also at Amazon).Of course, there is one bad thing about popular games getting deals; the chances are high that everyone already has them.[Via CAG]Source: Super Smash Bros. Here it is! It really happened! One accomplishment that we never thought we'd see get accomplished has been, well ... accomplished. Guitar Hero III's overly long "Through the Fire and Flames" track by Dragonforce has recently been played 100% perfect on expert difficulty with video proof to boot. Youtube account holder iamchris4life uploaded his nearly cyborg-like GHIII strumming performance and, what more can be said? It's "Through the Fire and Flames" played perfectly on expert. Just watch and be amazed. Also, towards the end of this eight minute video there is some NSFW celebratory "holy sh*t" remarks and f-bombs, but really, can you blame him? Celebrate however you want iamchris4life, you crazy good GHIII expert you.[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

We've seen our fair share of fantastic Guitar Hero performances here at Wii Fanboy, but this one takes them all, pushes them to the ground and buries them beneath mounds and mounds of dirt. YouTube user iamchris4life comes out of the ending song in Guitar Hero III, DragonForce's "Through the Fire and Flames," with a 100% completion. As much as we'd like for you to already be watching the video at this very moment, we had to place it after the break. The end of the video has a lot of naughty words being screamed in celebration. So it's NSFW.

  • Lots of Guitar Hero III DLC coming this month

Activision has announced today that Guitar Hero III will be receiving five downloadable track packs during the month of June. All of these will contain master tracks, but only two have been detailed, with the other three shrouded in mystery. The first song pack, which has been released today on the EU PSN Store and will no doubt be made available later today in America, is the Motorhead pack. This contains the songs "We Are the Road Crew," "Stay Clean" and "Motörhead."The second pack will be made available on June 12th and will combine performances from the Isle of Wight 2007 and 2008 festivals into an aptly named "Isle of Wight" pack. This contains Kasabian's "Shoot The Runner," The Kaiser Chiefs' "I Predict A Riot" and The Sex Pistols' "Problems." A one-off free God of War II pack is also available today for free. With this, Activision is clearly really putting a lot of effort into downloadable content and, dare we say, giving Rock Band a run for its money. Well, not really, but it's pretty impressive nonetheless.[Via Press Release]

  • Another Week in Japan: Hardware and software numbers 5/19-5/25

No new Wii games debuted last week; at least, none that ended up in the top thirty. There was one teensy weensy title that was introduced into the Japanese market, though. You may have heard of it: Guitar Hero III.To put it bluntly, sales for the game were low. In fact, it didn't even make the top fifty in Media Create's charts, and Famitsu reports that the title only sold 1,300 copies. Compared to sales in other regions (like North America and Europe, for example), where Guitar Hero III performed fiercely, you can see that tastes often differ between western and eastern gamers.Other than that, there's not to much to report about the software charts. Battalion Wars 2 managed to hang in the top ten, while Mario Kart Wii slipped into third place. Meanwhile, Smash Bros. Brawl might be in danger of falling out of the top thirty soon.In hardware, the gap between the Wii and the PSP lessened as sales for Nintendo's console rose, while sales for Sony's handheld fell. Still, the PSP had a lead of about 15,000 units last week, keeping the Wii locked in its second place spot:The software numbers are located after the break, so go on and take a look.

With Xbox 360 players getting a Halo 3 musical number for free last Thanksgiving, the gods of rock have now smiled down on PS3 owners as well. Tucked away in the latest PlayStation Underground newsletter comes word that PS3 armchair rockers will be able to download a free God of War-themed track for Guitar Hero III to rock out to on Thursday, June 5. No other details have been revealed, including what selection exactly will be released. Even so, free is free, though honestly we're racking our brains trying to come up with a single piece of God of War music that's memorable enough to warrant a living room encore.Update: It has a name! "The End Begins (to Rock)." [Thanks, Dan; via Guitar Hero Community]

If you missed out on this generation of music gaming, this deal from amazon.com may help kickstart the habit. The Guitar Hero III bundle, which includes a wireless guitar, is now available for $60. Yeah, that's expensive ... but that's $40 cheaper than standard MSRP.While we're pretty sure this guitar will work in the upcoming Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero IV, don't expect to use it in Rock Band. If you don't care about cross-series compatibility, this is a pretty stellar deal.[Via slickdeals.net]

  • UK duo get world record playing Guitar Hero III in UK

And here we thought getting a handful of people to watch you play Guitar Hero III was a pretty big feat. Turns out, in Earls Court, London, over 9,000 people turned out to watch two teenagers tear it up in the game. The two young lads introduced band 30 Seconds to Mars by laying down some hot licks on their fake guitars in Guitar Hero III.This makes them Guiness Record holders now, something that we're quite jealous of, to be honest. Why? Well, because we've got ten years on them and have zero world records. Basically, it feels like we have wasted our lives.

You may have missed out on Amazon's Gold Box deals, but the online retailer is still selling Guitar Hero III for cheap. Sure, it's not as cheap, but it's $15 off the MSRP, nonetheless.Since the Les Paul guitar will cost you $59.99 alone, buying the set for $74.99 isn't too bad of a deal. Also, it seems that Amazon is selling the fixed edition of the game, so you won't have to worry about mono sound issues or future disc swapping with your purchase.[Thanks, David!]

We've known for a while that inclusion on a video game soundtrack can help drive music sales, but usually the song in question is actually available for sale when it appears in the game. Not so for Def Leppard's new single, "Nine Lives," which will premiere as a downloadable Guitar Hero III track before it's available at retail or other online services. No F-f-f-foolin'!The track, which comes as part of a Def Leppard pack along with classics "Rock of Ages" and "Photograph," will be available on April 24th in the U.S. and May 8th in the U.K. The album "Songs from the Sparkle Lounge" follows soon after on April 28 (digital download) and May 5 (physical disc)."I know from personal experience how much more you get into the music by playing the game," said Def Leppard Lead Singer Joe Elliott in a press release. "Guitar Hero is extremely popular with all kinds of music heads, which includes a lot of our fans - and we think releasing Nine Lives this way first is just fantastic!"[Via X3F]

It's been a while since we've heard any big Guitar Hero III news. The assault of Rock Band and its variety and scope of DLC shoved GHIII out of the limelight for many. Whether this new development is any sort of attempt to bring back the game's popularity or not, we can't help but think that this would do better in Rock Band. Basically, Def Leppard is going to be releasing its new single "Nine Lives" via GHIII before any retail or online release. The song will be available in a three song pack that will be online for download April 24th in the US and May 8th in the UK. The other two songs in the pack include "Rock of Ages" and "Photograph".
