Inbox Influence Gmail plug-in outs the closet lobbyists in your life
Our parents always told us there were two topics we should never discuss in polite company: money and politics. Lucky for us, a new Gmail plug-in, called Inbox Influence, has made it so we don't have to do any talking to find out who pledges allegiance to the ass or the elephant -- and how much they're willing to spend to support those affiliations. The add-on is available for Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and IE9, and offers information about the political leanings and contributions made by the entities and individuals that appear in your inbox. C'mon, you know you're dying to find out which of your tennis-mates has a stake in Palin.
Confirmed: BlackBerry two-way sync for Gmail is now live
We've just heard from the boys and girls at RIM that the company did, in fact, deploy the long-awaited two-way Gmail synchronization capability to North American BIS users this week. What does that mean, exactly? Well, it means that if you've got a BlackBerry on any North American carrier that isn't going through BES, Gmail should behave more like it should -- deleted items will disappear from your phone, emails read elsewhere will show up as read on the device, and you'll have access to all of your sent items. Oh, and you can create and delete labels from the comfort of your QWERTY thumb board, too, which is a sweet deal. Sure, the feature might be literally years late as far as we're concerned -- but hey, better late than never.
Enhanced Gmail Plug-in for BlackBerry now in testing
It's no secret that using Gmail on a BlackBerry is a painful experience -- since the built-in mail client has shamefully broken IMAP support, your only real choice is a variant of the same Java-based Gmail app that runs on ancient featurephones, and that rules out direct integration with either contacts or attachments. Yeah, it's sad, but hope is in the air, as RIM's apparently beta testing something called the "Enhanced Gmail Plug-in for BlackBerry," which promises to bring things up to speed. Features are said to include Conversation View, support for labels, stars, and archiving, and full mailbox search -- you know, Gmail. Of course, it would be even nicer if RIM would just sack up and bring proper IMAP support to the most famous messaging platform in the world, but we'll take what we can get.[Via BerryReview]
