Google gave Groups a Material Design makeover back in March and made it the default experience a few months later in September. The company has announced the change in the Google Workspace Updates blog, explaining that the redesigned Groups will provide “a modern experience that matches Gmail and other Google services.” It will start removing the “Return to classic Google Groups” option under Settings on November 2nd, and it will take up to three days for the rollout to be complete.

Google has famously killed off a number of social network and messaging services over the last couple of decades (remember Allo? Or Google Talk?). But, amazingly, the Usenet-linked Google Groups setup that's been operational since 2001 is still cranking along. It hasn't had a UI update to match the company's other tools in years though, and a Material-design makeover is incoming. The filtering and search will also be revamped, and they claim it will be easier than ever to start a new group.

If you haven't been following the Official Google Mac Blog you haven't missed much. There's been no action since the day it launched. Until yesterday, that is, when they announced the opening of the Macs Inside Google group, where Mac users of Google products can swap news, tips, ideas, suggestions and troubleshooting techniques.Rose Yao, Mac Product Manager, says her job is to "combine Google's mission with Apple's to build great products that bridge the gap between the web and the desktop." Since I think we all share in that desire, we owe it to ourselves to join the group and let our voices be heard. More Apple-Google synergy can only be a good thing. Thanks, Bill I!
