T-Mobile prepaid offering free data... but only to access Facebook
Look, we understand: You absolutely have to know what Jimmy ate for lunch. And that Marissa is, "Ugh, just so sick of this week already." And Jason's only a "maybe" to the office holiday party? Who does that guy even think he is? Sorry, sorry -- we nearly forgot to tell you that T-Mobile's prepaid brand, GoSmart Mobile, has joined forces with Facebook to offer unfettered access to The Social Network™. Even if you don't pay for data, GoSmart Mobile will still allow Facebook and Facebook Messenger access. You'll never miss another link to "28 signs you've lived in New York City too long" again! Whether the Facebook access will be speedy is another question altogether; it's not actually clear which network users will access it through, and GoSmart is a prepaid service aimed at bringing down mobile costs over offering blazing fast speeds. Either way, free is free, right?
Coolpad's Flo is its first 3G smartphone in the US, heads to T-Mobile's GoSmart network
Coolpad isn't exactly a household name here in the States, but the outfit is otherwise known for its budget-minded offerings. Today, it is introducing the Flo, a 4.5-inch smartphone running Android Jelly Bean -- the company tells us this is the first Coolpad device with 3G capabilities to hit North America. (Sorry, folks, no LTE.) Aside from that, the Flo also sports an undisclosed dual-core, 1GHz Qualcomm chip, 4GB of onboard storage (expandable up to 32GB) and a decent 1,880mAh battery. Customers using T-Mobile's GoSmart prepaid service can snag one now for $99, which isn't too bad if you'd like to save a few bucks during your holiday shopping.
T-Mobile launches prepaid GoSmart Mobile service starting at $30 a month, promises 'FreeDUM'
It's nothing we didn't see coming toward the end of last year, but T-Mobile's finally ready to make its GoSmart Mobile prepaid service officially official. As outlined during its trials, the service is offering up plans starting at $30 a month for unlimited talk and text. An extra $5 a month'll get you unlimited talk, text and web, and if you jump up to a full $45 a month, you can add 3G to the list. T-Mob's promising a service free of hidden fees and caps, or as the company puts it "No DUM caps. No DUM overages " -- you know, "FreeDUM in wireless," as it were. The GoSmart Mobile SIM kit will run you $8. More info can be found in the press release after the break.
