  • Gank Frank parts 4 and 5 posted

Fenrix of Bloodhoof was nice enough to ping us and say that the next two installments of Gank Frank -- his awesome little graphic novel about a gnome with a taste for vengeance -- have been posted on the Funkytown forums. As before, the storyline continues to follow the movie Kill Bill, with a few extra gnomey (and WoW-related, although there's a Simpsons reference in there as well) twists and turns. And the graphics look terrific. Along with our own Tales from the Lion's Pride Inn, those crazy machinimists ain't got nothing on these graphic artists.Great job as always, Fenrix, and we can't wait to see the rest of the story.

  • Star Wars: The graphic novel unleashed

We love Star Wars as much as the next geek, so we found the news about a graphic novel of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed to be only a good thing. It's set to come out this summer, which means it will be released before the game. We suppose if you're worried about spoilers, then you should probably avoid it for a while. If you want a heads-up on the storyline of the upcoming Wii title, though, the book will probably be useful. There will be a regular novel available, too, for those who prefer straight-up words; but, as you probably know, those are neither as nerdy nor as fun. The novel is set to be written by Sean William, who's been on the best-seller list of the New York Times before, while the graphic novel will be the work of Haden Blackman. As you might have guessed, the story involves something about the Jedi, Vader, and the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance. Sounds good to us.[Via GoNintendo]

I really like today's new page. Kat accidentally discovers that she has a natural ability for something that takes most people years of training. Of course, right now she's too busy getting away from Naga to give it much thought, but you can be sure she'll get around to it.Will she get away? You'll have to read today's page to find out. You know, you don't normally see Naga this close up, and generally that's a good thing. Unfortunately for Kat, they spotted her after she shouted her warning and now want to get up close and personal. She's stuck on top of a very tall tower, so her options are limited, and she knows exactly what will happen to her if she's caught.Does she get away? You'll have to read this week's page to find out. Click the image above to read today's page, or the gallery below to start from the beginning.Bonus: I've released a wallpaper based on the cover of the first volume. This week's page marks a milestone in the story: the Naga threat has become real, as Kat soon finds out. The events set in motion by today's page will forever alter Kat's life and ultimately change her destiny. How will this all unfold? Time will tell, but there's a good chance you'll find out if you keep reading.I should warn everyone though -- there is a violent scene in one of today's panels, so read it at your own caution. First off, I'd like to thank everyone for their supportive comments of last week's premiere. I hope that this series will live up to everyone's high expectations! I'll certainly do my best to try. This week's page is the start of the first official tale in the series, and opens with a view that is hopefully familiar but different than you remember. Welcome to the very first edition of my new weekly column, Tales from the Lion's Pride Inn! For a long time, I've wanted to share the stories I've dreamed up or have been inspired to write by Warcraft. And with such a rich, lore-filled universe to draw on, the world of Azeroth is the perfect place to tell these tales.I've always been a fan of graphic novels, so it was an easy choice for me to decide to present these stories in a comic book style format. Each week, a new page of the story will be uploaded for your viewing and reading enjoyment. For the premiere of this new column, however, I'm giving you the cover and the first two pages!I'm looking forward to exploring many different types of stories in this format as well, from murder mysteries to full on epic tales of battle. I hope that you will enjoy reading these stories as much as I enjoy creating them! So, without further delay, click the gallery below to start reading the first issue of Tales from the Lion's Pride Inn!%Gallery-11275%

  • D2C unofficially announces D2 Comics for PSP

    by
    Andrew Yoon

    03.02.2007

Speaking to Gamasutra, Scott Orr from the new video game publisher, D2C Games, has mentioned an ambitious new project for the PSP: "For us, the PSP offers a platform that users look at as more than just a game machine. At GDC we will officially announce D² Comics, which will offer interactive comics for PSP users. These comics give writers and artists the opportunity to play at being movie directors, panning a scene to create a sense of motion, and letting the user dictate the pacing or let it run on its own." This isn't the first time the PSP has been home to digital comics: Konami successfully transformed the Metal Gear Solid franchise into a digital graphic novel. This kind of innovation is what D2C plans to bring to PSP owners everywhere: "We plan to initially support the PSP. So far the PSP has had nice ports of PS2 games, but our sense is that publishers are shifting gears and putting limited resources toward next-gen development at the expense of the PSP. We will fill that gap. There is a real opportunity here to bring gamers content to that platform which is different."

Everything's connected. At least, according to Kevin Bacon JJ Abrams Hideo Kojima. And, in order to fully understand the events of the amazing-looking Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PS3, you'll have to buy yourself a PSP. The two upcoming PSP-exclusive Metal Gear titles (Digital Comic 2, Portable Ops) will establish the story for the next-gen sequel. "We'd like you to definitely play it [the PSP games]," Kojima was quoted saying. "If you change the Ops story, you have to change 4. If you change 4, it also becomes necessary to change Ops. Until Ops is finished, 4's story can't be finalized." We'll all get a taste of the Guns of the Patriots' storyline when Portable Ops hits the system in December.[Via IGN]

Other sites may still be covering the old Metal Gear comic and treating it as "news," but we've discovered a real juicy story, via IGN: a new Metal Gear Solid Graphic Novel will be heading towards the PSP, thanks to the success of the original. It will follow the story of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and not only will it feature pretty-boy Raiden, it'll have a lot of Snake's story as well. A release date, and a title hasn't been revealed yet, but you can expect us to keep an eye out for this one. Hopefully, this new version will feature voice acting. Please, Konami?[Via IGN]

  • Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops previewed

    08.11.2006

The first canonical Metal Gear Solid portable game was unveiled at E3 earlier this year. The idea of a real non-Acid non-graphic novel Metal Gear has made it one of the most-wanted games for the system, even without too much information to work with. The unofficial Metal Gear Solid site has a new preview, with a few new screenshots. The game takes place six years after Snake Eater, and has Big Boss arrested after FOX Unit begins a revolt in South America. With the help of his comrades in the FOXHOUND Unit, it will be their responsibility to stop the bad guys from using their "ultimate weapon." This game will be a crucial part of the Metal Gear series' storyline, as it'll explain how Big Boss went from good guy to bad guy in Metal Gear. With cutscenes in the same style of the Digital Graphic Novel, Portable Ops seems like it'll be an interesting ride, to say the least.Portable Ops will feature a more distant camera so that players have a better view of their surroundings. Interestingly, it won't be a one-man sneaking mission anymore: you'll recruit and command other soldiers to help you take on your missions. Not only will you have generic soldiers at your disposal, but you'll also get more familiar faces, like Ocelot to join you. But be careful, in Fire Emblem style, if a character dies, they're dead for the rest of the game. There's also multiplayer, in which you can trade your partners ala Pokemon. According to the unofficial site, new trailers for Metal Gear Solid 4 and Portable Ops will be shown at Leipzig Games Convention, so expect more info very soon.[Via 1UP Boards]

In the first of what Bungie assumes will be many rave reviews, IGN calls the newly released Halo Graphic Novel a "must read," and better still since we now have to run out and buy it, "a work of joy, rather than a marketing gimmick." It also summarizes the separate stories for those who do their reading in the store. How about putting this comic on XBLM in 720p glory?
