It should come as no surprise that we possess a strong affinity for Halo's official multiplayer minigame, Grifball. Though we never thought the time-tested formula of beating the snot out of bomb carriers with gigantic hammers could be improved upon, the new mechanics introduced in Halo: Reach have officially been introduced into the sport's ruleset, giving the proceedings a certain ... je ne sais quoi. Which we believe is French for "jetpacks." Check out a video of the recently evolved sport after the jump, or keep an eye on the official Grifball forums for your opportunity to get in on a game.

Microsoft has sent out the latest Halo Waypoint update, detailing the content that we can expect to see in the near future. The update goes over the recent Halo: Reach info that has hit the interwebs, namely the ViDoc and the box art. It notes that this and future Reach info will be posted on the Transmissions section of the official Halo site on Xbox.com. There's also a Valentine's Day screenshot gallery on Waypoint, with help from one Hawty McBloggy. The real meat of the update, however, is that a new short series from Rooster Teeth -- the crew behind Red vs Blue -- will begin airing on Waypoint starting this weekend. The three part series, entitled "Grifball: Expansion," will air every Saturday starting February 20 and concluding on March 6. The series "tells the story of Team Slipspace and their confrontation with the newest addition to the International Grifball League of Earth." Check out a trailer for the series above.

Click to kung fu-gripisize image If you're attending the San Diego Comic Con and are a fan of all things Halo 3, then you'll likely be excited to hear that Toys R Us and McFarlane Toys are teaming up to sell the exclusive figure you see above during the show. Only 6,000 of these Grifball bad boys (or girls, because you really don't know who's under that 200 billion-dollar suit of armor) are being sold at the show, and you can grab your own for $15. We suggest making this a priority stop, as the figure features a Bomb, Gravity Hammer, Recon armor, and Sword Hilt, with the latter two being pretty big deals in the world of spinning space rings, we hear. Also, 6,000 isn't a lot when you consider 126,000 people attended the show last year.San Diego Comic-Con goes down from July 23-26 at the San Diego Convention Center.%Gallery-49402%

Good news Halo 3 sports fans, Grifball getting off the bench and taking on the Halo 3 Double EXP Weekend. Prepare for high flying hijinks complete with hammers, energy swords, and one highly explosive ball. Honestly, there isn't much more to say about things. We assume you're familiar with Double EXP Weekends. They ... um ... give out twices as many experience points in Halo 3. Oh, and you'll need the Heroic Map Pack. Then again, that's free, so if you don't have it, you probably weren't going to play anyway.

Double EXP Weekend is back yet again, because it's weekend time and team Bungie just loves to doublify (is that even a word?) Halo 3 players' EXP. They really are that caring. And this time Grifball makes a return to the Halo 3 matchmaking hopper complete with hammers, swords and plenty of stiff-arms to the face. The only switch-up from the last Grifball Double EXP Weekend is that they'll be utilizing the new Spring League map which we're told makes it, quote "harder for jerks to escape the map." The Grifball playlist will disappear come Monday morning, so form a team and get to Grifballing (we guarantee that isn't a real word.)

The Halo 3 Double EXP Weekends continue on (in spite of whatever day the calender insists it is) with the very latest playlist addition: Grifball. The Grav Hammer based fan-favorite gametype is firmly grounded in Foundry and is loosely based on soccer. For those who are arriving late to the Grifball party, the game is very simple: get the ball in the goal without dying. But you'll have to try to get your playing in before 2am Monday morning, as that's when the "Double EXP Weekend" ends. The Grifball playlist is live now. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Hey kids, just a quick reminder that a special Grifball playlist is now available on Halo 3. What's so special about it, you ask? Well, for one, winning teams will be awarded double XP, making their ascent through the Halo ranks (and their Spartan Officer achievements) that much easier. Second, the playlist is considered a tournament playlist, and appropriate prizes will be given to appropriate players. We're not exactly sure how said players will be chosen, but we're talking about free prizes, so you may want to check it out, right? The playlist will be active until Monday at noon Pacific, so hurry up, log on, and start earning that precious XP. Don't know what Grifball is? Get yourself learned. [Via Joystiq]

If you've been looking for an excuse to jump back into Halo 3 after your dalliances with Call of Duty 4, this may just be it: This weekend, you'll be getting double XP points if you win a game of Grifball, a game variation created by Burnie Burns of RvB fame. The game will be a social playlist from now until March 10 at noon. Also, Grifball is being treated like a tournament hopper with prizes available. At noon on March 20 the next double XP playlist will be activated: Team SWAT, which takes away radar and shields and adds health. So, is this enough to get you back to playing Halo 3? Or did you never slack off to begin with?
